Notice from the Catholic Diocese of Evansville
Diocesan Pastoral Council meets
The Diocese of Evansville’s newly reconstituted Diocesan Pastoral
Council had its first meeting on Feb. 1 at the Catholic Center in
Evansville. The DPC is an advisory group to Bishop Siegel, and is
made up of three lay members from each deanery and one repre-
sentative each from the priests, deacons, consecrated religious and
young adults of the diocese. This gathering served as an orientation
for the members.
Following Mass, Bishop Siegel opened the meeting by sharing his
vision for the DPC. The Bishop noted that the Council, like other
consultative bodies in the Diocese, is to bring together a broad
perspective on needs, concerns and plans that involve and impact
the whole diocese. Rather than discussing issues of a specific
parish, school, office or community, it will look to broader pastoral
trends and possible areas of initiative. For that reason, the members
of the Council represent a cross-section of the diocese, not just
geographically; it is a diverse group of men and women represent-
ing various age groups, backgrounds, vocations and professions.
During the meeting, Diocesan Vice-Chancellor Dominic Faraone
provided a presentation that explored the DPC Constitution and By
-Laws. Diocesan Chancellor and COO Tim McGuire followed with
a session reviewing the diocesan administrative and pastoral offic-
es, consultative bodies to the Bishop and diocesan activities.
The meeting concluded with some final comments from the Bish-
op, an opportunity for a Q&A, and recommendations for future
agenda items. The next meeting is scheduled for May 9.
As Catholics, we are called to witness to one another the amazing
things God has done for us. The Welcome (previously known as
CRHP - Christ Renews His Parish) process allows us to do just that -
take a break from our busy lives, share our faith with others, and get to
know God through His works. This is a 2 day, overnight retreat begin-
ning Saturday morning and ending Sunday afternoon. There is no cost
to the participant - this retreat is a gift from the Catholic parishes in
Ireland and Jasper. Mark your calendars! The men’s is March 7 & 8.
Sign up sheets will be in the back of church soon.
There are about 850 children needing foster care in Vanderburgh
County alone. This is an extremely high number and there are not
enough families to meet this need. A group, Forevansville, has a
foster care initiate underway http://forevansville.org/fostercare and
the Diocese of Evansville has been invited to participate. Holy
Family Parish is hosting an informative evening to educate on
fostering and adoption that is open to the public. Please join us on
Tuesday, March 17 at Holy Family Parish, 950 Church Avenue,
Jasper. The doors open 6:30pm, with a presentation from 7:00-
8:15pm. No obligation, No commitment, No reservations. Togeth-
er, let’s flip the equation of kids waiting on adults to adults waiting
on kids.
St. Mary Parish will be taking orders for 14” unbaked
pizzas made by Monte’s Pizza in Ireland. Choose from
