Principals Corner I would like to take a moment to say thank you for your attend- ance during Forest Glens Family Dinner Dance in February. It was truly an amazing event. Families from many different back- grounds and cultures shared some of the tastiest food from their country of origin, interacted, talked and got to know each other! I felt so proud of our students, staff and families. This only hap- pens with the resilient, forward thinking and wholehearted dedi- cation of our PFO. They are incredible! Please join me in thanking them for everything they do for the school by sending them thank you notes. Their dedication is exemplary. March is finally here! The students are in full swing and gearing up for our many upcoming activities. IREAD3 testing is upon us for our 3 rd graders and report cards for Quarter 3 will be sent electronically very soon. Please review your childs progress and communicate with their teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Beginning April 20th , students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will participate in ILEARN, the state test replacing ISTEP this year. Testing for our 5 th and 6 th graders will end on May 15th. It is vitally important that students are here on time and all day during these testing periods. Although these next few weeks are going to be very busy, we will continue focus on academic progress and student success. We are SO PROUD of our studentsaccomplishments this year! The children have been dedicated and engaged in their work, working toward achieving academic success. It is so reward- ing to walk around the building and see the studentsenthusiasm for learning and the teachersdedication to teaching! Thank you for your support and encouragement! Doing what is best for our students in the most effective way is our top priority. At Forest Glen, our goal is to help our children become knowledge seekers now so they become future change agents in our world. We want them to explore their po- tential, find opportunities for growth and learning in challenging experiences, and feel successful and significant. We want them to know that they are the designers of their lives and have the pow- er to choose and change their life path. This is a huge task and as we strive for continuous improvement, I welcome your feedback, encourage you to continue to collaborate with your childs teach- er and take an active role in your childs education. Working to- gether will enable us to heighten your childs achievement and success. As you all know, learning academic content in a second language is very complex but it has multiple short and long term benefits. It creates more positive attitudes and less prejudice toward people who are different. 2. It Increases creativity and ability to deal with abstract concepts. 3. It improves skills and grades in math and English and on standard- ized tests. 4. It provides a competitive edge in career choices. 5. It enhances listening, problem solving, analytical skills and memory. This semester, we are launching a new literacy initiative to promote reading for all students. We will be developing and promoting new criteria to create a culture for biliteracy at Forest Glen. Both parents and teachers have been invited to participate in this important work and serve in a committee to promote this vision. Thank you very much for your conn- ued support with your child's educaonal journeyTHANKS FOR ALL YOU DO! Jerome Omar Lahlou From the Desk of your AP: March Madness is here!! This month we will be focusing on the Lifeskill of Perseverance. We will discuss how any type of success starts with hard work and determinaon. Please be sure to reinforce this at home when you see your student working hard at homework and not giving up. All of our stu- dents exhibit perseverance from the moment they enter Forest Glen. Whether they are learning the new language of Spanish or English is a new language for them, they must have perseverance to become proficient and truly bi- literate. We want to be sure we culvate this important skill in each other. We wish our 3 rd grades the best of luck as they will be taking their first state test, IREAD-3, March 17 th -19 th . Please be sure your 3 rd grade student goes to bed early this week, eats breakfast and has a calm morning as they head out the door. Geng off to a good start can make a world of differ- ence for our young ones. Please enjoy your spring break and me with family, Jane Ann Giles

Notes from the Nurse Vision and Hearing Screenings were conducted back in Octo-ber. If your child failed either screening, a letter indicating abnormal results were sent home to children requiring a re-evaluation by their doctors or optometrists. If you are a par-ent that received a letter about your child’s vision or hearing, please make sure your child is seen by his/her doctor for hear-ing and vision rechecks. Any new results should be sent to the school nurse. Feel free to call or email the school nurse with any questions.
