Future Productions
Profane Autumn of Sherlock Holmes Val would like to make an amendment to last month’s newsletter where I mistakenly mentioned
that she was looking for new young men to join her cast. This should have read ANY men! (sorry Val
☺) So, if you know any friends or family who would like to join our merry ranks, please do not
hesitate to put them in touch. There is also a slight change in audition dates... the audition on the
14th
is now for both men and women.
We have begun selling tickets already for this show, and would like to announce that the
first night will be BOGOF, a bargain offer at two for the price of one! Think of it as a perfect chance
to introduce a friend to the ‘phoenix experience’. To benefit from this deal, please speak to either
Val Bird, Paul Clasby, or visit our website at www.phoenixstage.co.uk
Travelling Shows
We were a little worried that only one person approached a committee member to express their
interest in helping out; but, like a bolt of lightning, realisation struck us that in fact the reason for no
one contacting us was that you were all so enthusiastic about the idea, you all naturally assumed
you would be involved, and so therefore didn’t feel the need to confirm. As such, we have put all
your names on our list of interested volunteers! All joking aside, this is a really worth while thing to
help out with. It really does give a sense of community pride, and also helps to raise the Phoenix’
profile in the local area. The more willing and able participants we have, the better quality of show
we can put on. We really are calling on you to lend your voices! if you really don’t want to help out
in any of the future travelling shows, if you really don’t feel that you have anything of value to offer
by way of singing, dancing, acting, playing the piano, writing sketches, organising, meeting our local
community, making them happy etc then please feel free to let us know ☺
Socials
Quiz night
Well done to team ‘Shy Ted,’ consisting of Mandy, Jane, Joe, Keith, Wayne and Steve for beating all
the odds... and everyone else. This was a very successful, fun night which raised £50, even though
this was not a fundraising event! A huge thank you goes first to everybody who attended making
this a brilliant social evening, to Peter for doing a wonderful job on all the lovely grub, and Val for
the wonderful utilisation of modern technology during the music questions.
Future Socials
The committee are hard at work to organise the next social night, news of which will follow in the
next newsletter. If you have any ideas about what might like us to arrange, please do let us know.

Peter Clarke, once again, has taken this opportunity to shamelessly plug the next Jelly Rollers ‘the
goodtime band’ gig on the 4th

Angling Club, Granada Rd. This will be a free event and music starts at 9pm.

an 8.00pm start. Nomination forms for committee positions will be released at a later date, watch

say – hey, project it into the rafters!
Members News
A couple of CONGRATULATIONS are in order!
First is to Lewis Bailey whose debut play Agatha Christie’s A Spider’s Web, with his new company,
Athelney, ran with storming success to large audiences at St Peter’s. Lots of Phoenix members went
in support of Lewis and have said how enjoyable it was. We’re proud of you Lewis ☺
Second is to Leigh Cunningham who expertly passed her driving test first time on the 16th
March.
Well done to both of you.
This is a second call for anyone interested in sponsoring Bill Furlong in his walk across China for
charity. For anyone who missed last month’s newsletter, Bill will be trekking 10 miles a day in
October in Aid of Help the Aged. Please contact any committee member to register your support for
this great cause.
If you too have any news, outside event info, birthdays etc that you would like to see printed in this
