Introduction

The MAP2 elevator controller has been designed to handle access up to 64 floors with the add-on H1000 panels. In the elevator application, the credential owners simply present their credentials to the reader mounted inside the elevator cab to gain access to their assigned floors. This prevents access to unauthorized elevator floors and at the same time allows the building owner to isolate different organizations that cohabit the same building. The MAP2 elevator controller is a cost effective solution allowing the building owner to purchase the correct number of controllers required to control the number of elevator floors. A single MAP2 elevator controller can control up to 16 floors. However, the add-on H1000 panels may be added to accommodate 32, 48 and 64 floors.

Overview

The MAP2 elevator control panel and the H1000 panel are designed to interface with the elevator electronics using the “Form C” relay output contacts of the panels. These relay output contacts make or break the connection to individual elevator floor buttons. The connection to these buttons is provided by the elevator company. The Wiegand Reader (located in the elevator cab) requires 6 conductors which will be connected to the elevator travel cable used by the elevator. The elevator travel cable terminates in the elevator control room, and from this location the 6 reader wires will be used to connect to the reader port of the MAP2 Elevator control panel. The “Form C” relay output contacts of the MAP2 and H1000 panels are designed to switch only low voltage. An Elevator Relay Interface Box is required to make the actual connection to the floor buttons in the elevator electronics. The Elevator Relay Interface Box must be supplied by the elevator contractor. 12 volt relays are to be used in the interface box. The MAP2 and H1000 panels’ output relay contacts will switch the 12 volt coil of the relay in the interface box. Under no circumstance is 110/120 or higher voltage to be present in the access control panel (many elevators use 110Volts AC or DC in the floor button circuitry which is considered a lethal voltage). A service bypass switch must be installed in the Elevator Relay Interface Box to allow for fire alarm release of all the floors in the event of a fire alarm and to allow service of either the access control system or the physical elevator. If a bypass switch is not installed, both technical parties need to be present during service of either the access control system or the elevator, and that can be quite costly.

MAP2 and H1000 Control Panel LED Indicators

The MAP2 elevator control panel used in 32 to 64 floor elevator configurations uses RS485 communication channel which enables the MAP2 elevator control panel to communicate with the auxiliary H1000 panels. There are LEDs associated with this communication channel described below. All panels have 16 output relays, and each of these relays have an associated relay LED which will illuminate when the relay is activated. These LEDs are labeled OLED1 to OLED16.

MAP2 PLM COMMUNICATION

MAP2 to H1000 Panel Communication LEDs

If the MAP2 elevator control panel has been correctly configured as a 32 to 64 floor elevator system, the two LEDs on the Panel Logic Module (PLM) daughter board will indicate the RS485 communication to the auxiliary H1000 panels. The PLM LEDs are labeled TX485 (Green LED1) and RX485 (Red LED2). If no auxiliary H1000 panels are connected to the MAP2 elevator control panel, the TX485 (Green LED1) will toggle On and Off. If all the auxiliary H1000 panels are configured and connected correctly, both TX485 (Green LED1) and RX485 (RED LED2) will toggle On and Off.

H1000 EX1000 COMMUNICATION

H1000 to MAP2 Communication LEDs

The EX100 RS485 of the H1000 communication is indicated by RX485 - LED1 and TX485 - LED2. The green TX RS485 LED will only toggle when the address of the Auxiliary H1000 is sent from the MAP2 elevator control panel. When the auxiliary H1000 receives this poll it will send the response to the MAP2 elevator control panel. See previous section which describes the “MAP2 PLM Communication”

H1000 RD8, RD7, RD6 LEDs

An additional auxiliary H1000 panel setup verification is implemented in this firmware. Three LEDs are used to indicate what address the auxiliary H1000 panel is set to. These LEDs near the reader ports RD8, RD7 and RD6 are labeled as RLED8, RLED7 and RLED6 respectively. Each time the MAP2 elevator control panel communicates to the auxiliary H1000 panel, one of these LEDs will toggle. If the auxiliary panels have been correctly configured, the correct LED that will toggle is indicated below:

Connection to the Elevator Controls

ISOLATING RELAYS

For safety and system serviceability the access control system should be isolated from the power connections of the elevator buttons. An Elevator Interface Relay Box must be used for this purpose, to prevent high voltage and high voltage spikes from interfering with the access control system. This Elevator Relay Interface Box must be supplied by the elevator company to avoid potential liability issues. The Elevator Interface Relay Box must provide isolating relays which physically isolate the voltage present on the elevator buttons from the H1000 outputs.

It is important to understand that the MAP2 or H1000 panel’s output relays (“Form C”) will be controlling the coils of the relays in the interface box and that a single shielded single pair must be used for each relay connection. Multi-pair cable must not be used as inductive voltage spikes will be passed onto the adjacent wires. These voltage spikes can cause the access control panel to be intermittent. To eliminate relay coil voltage spikes it is important to place a power diode (1N4007) right at the coil connection.

SAFETY

If the elevator relay interface box contains 110/220 VAC, it should be labeled outside with “DANGER High Voltage Contained Inside”. This is important for the safety of personnel doing maintenance.

FIRE ALARM

In the event that a building fire alarm occurs it is imperative that all floor selector buttons in the cab are operational. When a fire alarm occurs, the fire alarm panel typically operates a dry relay contact. In normal operation (No Fire Alarm) this “Form C” relay contact is “Closed”. In the event of a fire alarm this “Form C” relay contact goes “Open”. This relay is used to automatically bypass the access control system in the event of a fire alarm so that all floor selection buttons are operational.

SERVICE OVERRIDE SWITCH

It is advisable to have an Elevator Access Controller Bypass Switch present. This allows the elevator company an easy means to work on the elevator without requiring the presence of the company in charge of maintaining the access control equipment. Similarly, if there is a failure with the elevator access control system, the bypass switch will allow elevator operation until the access control system is repaired.

Host Communication Wiring

The MAP2 elevator control panel is equipped with an Ethernet RJ45 jack (see image below) to allow easy connection for communication with the host.

Wiegand-Compatible Reader Wiring

The elevator reader, which is mounted in the elevator cab, can read a standard 26-bit or Cansec 37-bit Wiegand proprietary format card or the HID Corporate 1000 format card. The MAP2 panel uses a small 6 pin keyed connector to terminate the reader wiring. The MAP2 reader connections are labeled below the reader connectors, as shown below. The 12 VDC power is supplied to the reader through the reader connector. The MAP2 reader port uses an auto-resettable fuse with a 1 amp maximum rating. A 6-conductor overall shield wire is required for proper Wiegand reader connection. See the reader manufacturer for the wire gauge requirement for different reader distances to the control panel.
