DOOR GUARANTEE
Standard Door Guarantee - Subject to Terms and Conditions set forth herein, doors manufactured by theSupplier are guaranteed by the manufacturer for two (2) years from the date of shipment by the Supplier tobe of good material and workmanship, free from defects which render them unserviceable or unfit for usefor which they were manufactured. This document is to be read in conjunction with AS2688-1984.
Terms and Conditions - Natural variations in the colour and texture of the wood are not to be considereddefects. Doors must be accorded reasonable treatment by the purchaser and should be stored or hung in drybuildings and not in damp, moist or freshly plastered areas. The utility or structural strength must not be impaired ineither fitting of the door or the application of hardware, or cutting and altering the door for lights, louvres, panels orany other special details. Normal show-through of frame components in flush doors shall not be considered a defect. To help avoid “SHOW-THROUGH”, G.B. Lilley recommends that Flush Panel Doors be faced with 6mm thick skins.
Immediately after fitting, and prior to hanging, the entire door including the top and bottom edges must receivetwo coats of paint, varnish or sealer to adequately stabilise the moisture content. Exterior finishes shall be usedon exterior doors and doors exposed to direct sunlight should be finished with light reflective colours, darkcolours should not be used.
Semi-gloss or satin finishes are recommended for all doors to reduce “SHOW-THROUGH”.
It is common practice for Architects to specify doors faced with Medium Density Fibre board (MDF) combined withkiln dried hardwood (KDHWD) edge strip. It is their opinion that this combination provides a superior surface.
In fact, the edge between the MDF face and edge strip will open and close (expansion & contraction) over timedue to the following reasons:
1. Differences in movement between MDF/PLYWOOD, KDHWD and the edge strips/glazing bead will result in a crack in the finished paint surface.
2. Sanding of the edge strip/glazing bead to finish flush with the door face will result in a change to the surface texture of the MDF adjacent to the edge strip/glazing bead, and will also slightly roll the edge, making the door thinner, all of which will detract from the paint finish on the doors.
The guarantee against warp does not apply to the following:
a. Doors with face veneers of different species.
b. Door of unnatural construction.
c. Closures, catches and associated hardware are to be fixed in a manner that will cause undue stress on the door.
d. Doors that are improperly hung or do not swing freely.
e. External doors which have been painted with dark colours.
Experience has demonstrated that the warp occurs after the door have been delivered to site. It is usually due toimproper storage or adverse moisture conditions , & not due to faulty manufacture. The Supplier will accept noresponsibility for doors when the moisture content of the timber falls below 12% or exceeds 18%. Obviously theSupplier cannot assume responsibility for conditions wholly beyond their control.

PLEASE NOTE: The introduction of MDF faced doors has resulted in a door face which witha minimum of preparation by the painter will achieve a superior paint finish. If builders specifypaint grade plywood as a door face, they must expect to undertake considerably morepreparation, i.e. blade filling of grain, to achieve a finish similar to that achievable with MDF.
a) The Supplier recommends that MDF faced doors be manufactured without exposed edge strips, to avoid the above painting problems.
b) If exposed edge strips are required, then the Supplier cannot be held liablefor additional painting expense.
c) The Supplier will not assume responsibility for doors which become defective because of failure to follow these recommendations or for hazards of shipment or storage, after doors leave the control of the Supplier.
d) Doors must be inspected upon arrival for visible defects and all claims based thereon must be filed immediately.
e) The Suppliers agrees to repair or replace at its option, unfinished and in the form as originally supplied and without charge, any doors found to be defective within the meaning of this guarantee. Any such defects must be brought to the attention of the Supplier promptly when discovered, and, in any event within two years fromthe date of shipment by the Supplier.
f) The Supplier is not liable hereunder to reimburse the purchaser for doors repairedor replaced without prior written consent of the Supplier to such repair or replacement.
Interpretation of Warp
A warp not exceeding 5mm on doors up to 2134 x 914 x 38, or 6mm on doors over 2134 x 914 x38 and up to 2438 x 1219 x 38 shall not be considered.
A warp not exceeding 5mm on doors up to 2134 x 914 x 38or 6mm on doors over 2134 x 914 x38 and up to 2438 x 1219 x 38 shall not be considered.
Warp shall be interpreted as meaning the cupping or twisting of doors. It refers to distortion withinthe door itself and not to its relationship to the jambs or frame in which it is hung. Therefore, warpexceeding tolerances noted above shall be considered a defect only.
1. When cupping is determined by applying a straight edge to the concave face of thedoor, or
2. When a twist is determined by placing the door face against a true plane surface.
