GlossaryAT SAutomatic Tape Selection. The tape deck automatlcallv setsthe appropriat e equahza tmn characteristics and bias currentaccording to the tape ot tape mserted in the deck.

Automatic calibrationThe autom atic adiustm ent ot the bias current and recordinglevel tar the mserted tape. This adjustm ent works to gether wth the decks ATS~.Automatlc Tape Selection. see above) to get the bestposslblu recordmg results on any tape.

Auto ret level functionA function that autom atically sets the recordrng levelaccording to the peak signal level of the program sourceprior to recording. When active, this funwo n gradually decreases the recordinglevel when the sIgnal lev el rises excessively duringrecording.

Dolby HX PRO systemA system th at reduces distortion and noise in high-frequencyresponse during recording. A tape recorded with thissystem produces the same high-qu ality sound even whenplayed on other tape decks.

Dolby NR (noise reduction) system:I system that elimm ates tape hiss noise by boosting low-level signals in the high-frequency range during recordmg, then lorvenng them durmg playback. There are tour types ot systems: A, 8, C and S (unav ailableon the TC-WESOS). Type A is for professional USC (and is notavaila ble on your tape deck), and types B, C and S are tarconsumer use. Type S has the maxim um noise reductioncapaMity, follow ed by types C and 8.

Multi-AMSMulti-Automahc \lus~c Sensor IS a function that locates thebegi nnin g ot up to 30 tracks before or after the current trackby detecting the blank space (of over 4 seconds) betwe entracks.

Multiplex filterA filter for elim inat ing the 19-kHz stereo carrier and the 38-kHz sub-carrier signals that may impa ir the Dolby NRsystem. Though tuners are usually equip ped with this filter,if you got poor results whe n recording FM broadcasts withthe Dolby NR system. your tuner may not have a filter or thefilter may not be working. In this case, set the DOLB Y NRswitch on the tape deck to ON FILTE R.

Test tonesSign als (IO-kHz and -LOO-Hz) generate d by the tape deck forbias current and recording level calibratio n.
