Main featuresLeader since many years in the room air conditioning manufacturing, with a lot of successfully products, Olimpia Splendid Group introduces a new line of fan coil-radiator, designed for the winter heating and summer cooling of offices, houses, hotels, schools, community centres. They consists of a metallic structure, with a radiator in the front, an heat exchanger water/air, tangential fan and motor inside, and air filters. Models are available with and without the front radiator and many accessories.SHAPE AND DIMENSIONSThe high aesthetic design match shapes and colours suitable for every environment, the overall dimensions are the smallest in the market for the same performances and allow an easy installationThe model without front radiator can be installed either vertical or horizontal. PERFORMANCES AND SOUND LEVELSThis new system is the solution to both the typical fan coil disadvantages (air continuous moving, noise , dust suspension) and radiators disadvantages (low instantaneous power, impossible operation in cooling mode). The high performances have been obtained through deep analysis and severe tests carried out in all the possible working conditions, the acoustic comfort is obtained by using the tangential fan with special air dynamic shapes and high absorption materials. Through the temperature control and dehumidifying process it is possible in summer to maintain an high environmental comfort, in winter the ventilation allow to heat up quickly the environment and the radiator to maintain the comfort. Performances have been determined according to EN 1397 and EN 442-2.RELIABILITYThe high degree of reliability has been achieved through careful research and experiments extended until the very minor details, by an accurate selection of raw materials and components, through the most advanced assembly methods. The water inlet to the radiator is managed by a valve (calostat), included in the hydraulic assembly group, that is sensible to the water temperature (only SLR version). If water temperature is lower than 15°C than the valve stops completely the water inlet to the radiator in order to avoid surface water condensing. Reliability of this device has been proved for more than 100.000 cycles in extreme working conditions.Safety has been verified and certified according to EN 60335-1 and EN 60335-2-40EASY USEFor electronic versions it is possible from the control board to select the working mode and the desired temperature. A microprocessor-based system manages the control and regulation of the temperature through a proportional-integral algorithm which adapts the operation of the machine automatically when room conditions change. The available operation modes are the following: stand-by, automatic, silent, night, electric heater. It is available the human presence sensor, as an accessory, in order to reduce the power consumption whenever there is no room occupancy. The remote control is available as an accessory for built-in installation or whenever it is required a central control (stand alone) for different units, in the same room or in different rooms.
INSTALLATIONInstallation is quick and easy thanks to the valves assembly available from series in the range with radiator. Water pipes are easy connectable to the valves assemble, then there is just to put in place the draining system and to electrically connect the unit. The unit thanks to the various configurations and possibilities can be installed in every environment, vertically on the floor (with special feet, available as accessories) or wall suspended, or horizontally ceiling mounted and built-in.

Increasing the outlet air static pressure the air flow decreases and consequently also the cooling and heating capacities decrease, as described in the following table

INSTALLATION ISUGGESTIONSFan coil units should be installed in a suitable position in order to cool and heat the room evenly, on walls or ceilings suitable to bear their weight.Fit any accessories on the standard unit before installing it.Read the relevant technical sheets for the installation and use of accessories.Keep free space around the fan coil to allow proper operation and ordinary and extraordinary maintenance (see the drawings following).Provide a panel to reach the unit in case of built-in installation (for SL models).Install the remote control panel, if any, in a position that can easily be reached by the user to set the functions and that is suitable for the proper detection of the temperature, if provided. Therefore avoid positions directly exposed to sunlight, hot or cold streams, obstacles preventing the correct temperature detection. If the system is shut down during the winter months, drain off the water from the system to prevent damages due to freezing, if antifreeze solution are used, check the freezing point using the table shown below.
n order to obtain optimum efficiency and performance, and to prevent any failures or hazardous situation, the installation position must meet the following requirements:— The minimum distance from the floor of the lower line (in case of wall fastening) must be 80 mm. The minimum distance of the air outlet grille from any possible obstacle (shelf, sill etc.) must be 140 mm. The minimum distance between side and side wall must be at least 20 mm, to allow you to disassemble the sheet cover. (see template H ) (figure 2)
— If horizontally fastened to the ceiling, the unit must be at least 2.5 m far from the floor.— The wall must be sturdy and capable of supporting the weight of the appliance.— The air inlet from the front intake grille must be free from any obstacle for 400 mm around.— If possible, install the unit on a perimetral wall, so as to convey the condensate outside.— In case of horizontal ceiling installation, prevent the air flow from directly touching people.
VERTICAL WALL OR FLOOR FASTENING
In case of floor installation by socles, refer to the instructions which accompany the accessory. As for wall fastening, by using the paper template H, position the connecting pipes (coming from the wall horizontally or from the floor vertically), the condensate discharging pipe and the wall box including the power supply cable; then mount the two fastening brackets, according to the holes on the template, based on the drawing on the top of the sheet.— The two brackets must be fastened to the wall in the selected position by two plugs per bracket, using expansion screws. To fasten the appliance to a wooden wall, use suitable screws.— Drill the wall with a power drill and fasten the brackets without tightening the screws.— Position brackets properly using a spirit-level, so that they slightly bend to the area where a hole will be drilled for piping, in order to improve the condensate discharge.— Tighten the four fastening screws.— Make sure that brackets are stable, by moving them sideways, upwards and downwards.— Mount the unit on fastening brackets.(figure 3)
FISSAGGIO VERTICALE A PARETE O A PAVIMENTO

HORIZONTAL FASTENING
For horizontal fastening mount the two fastening brackets by paper template H, based on the drawing on the top of the sheet.— The two brackets must be fastened to the ceiling in the selected position by two plugs per bracket, using expansion screws . To fasten the appliance to a wooden surface, use suitable screws.— Drill the wall with a power drill and fasten the brackets with the four fastening screws.— Check the stability of the brackets by moving them sideways.— Drill 4 holes (according to the holes on the template) to fit the rawplugs (not provided).— Insert the machine in the two brackets, and hold it in this position until you fit the 4 rawlplugs (2 per shoulder); then tighten.
HYDRAULIC CONNECTIONS
For the hydraulic connection, disassemble the left-hand side (not available in the built-in version) before connecting the two inlet/outlet pipes. To do this:1. Remove the air outlet grille, by loosening the two locking screws2. Unscrew the screw under the door providing access to the hydraulic connections and the one positioned on the left-hand rear top of the upper frame of the side 3. Move the side leftwards, until you bring out the reference of the upper profile, and lift the side to remove it (figure 5).
The SLR version, that includes a standard hydraulic connecting unit (fig. 6 - 7 - 8), allows a simple and quick connection under any conditions. The 2-way motorized valve (or 3-way valves with by-pass, fig. 6) and the holder are supplied as accessories, on specific requirement. To avoid compromising the performance of the appliance, the water inlet and outlet must be the ones indicated in fig. 6 (water inlet on the top and outlet on the bottom).

Two solutions can be adopted for the horizontal connecting lines from the wall:
• The first, particularly recommended for stiff connecting pipes, involves the positioning of wall connections at the height indicated in positions 1 and 2 on template H. Pipes must protrude from the wall by 25.5 mm (lower connection) and 67 mm (upper connection). Of course these measures are valid if the whole appliance is leaning against the wall. If the radiator fan does not adhere to the wall, the protrusion of the pipe must be increased by the distance between the wall and the appliance to be installed. For the hydraulic connection: 1. Turn the lower closing valve by 90° (outlet reducing valve) in horizontal position2. Screw a 3/4 L fitting, and channel it towards the wall. 3. Position the appliance and check that the two connecting pipes fit into the lower reducing valve and the upper L fitting, respectively. Now you can tighten. (figure 7)
• The second solution is recommended for flexible or semi-flexible connecting pipes: hold the two pipes at an intermediate height between the two units mounted on the machine, like in position 3 on the template (delivery and return units, for SLR version), so as to bend them for connection in vertical position. (figure 8)Where necessary, for space reasons, other accessories are available, such as EUROKONUS 3/4 L fittings. For the SL version, turn the connecting lines so that they are perpendicular to the shoulder. For a correct connection, add an inlet and closing valve and the outlet reducing valve .If the pipes come from the floor, they must be positioned in such a way as to pass inside the sheet casing which supports the foot (see fig. 9). For the SLR versions, the pipes must cross the copper bend which forms the lower valve unit. For
easier assembly, you can disassemble the bend and reassemble it again after the installation has been completed, making sure the seals are correctly in place.Once connected, the pipes must be insulated also on the connections, to prevent the formation of condensate. Prepare also the condensate discharge according to the instructions provided in the next paragraph. Finally, reassemble the left-hand side.
Per procedere all’allacciamento idraulico occorre: 1.

CONDENSATE DISCHARGE (pump mounting)
The condensate discharge network must be properly dimensioned (min. ID of the pipe: 16 mm) and the piping must be positioned in such a way as to keep a certain slope along the path (at lest 1%). In case of vertical installation, the drain pipe is directly connected to the drain pan, positioned on the bottom, on the side shoulder, under the hydraulic connections (Fig. 7-10); in case of horizontal installation, the drain pipe is connected to the pan positioned under the heat exchange coil (see the relevant drawings). The drain pipe must be properly dimensioned (min. ID of the pipe: 16 mm) and secured to the pan or drain pan by a collar. If possible, let the condensate flow directly into a gutter (or drainpipe) for house water drainage. If the condensate is discharged into the drainage system, it is recommended to install a trap to prevent the spreading of any bad smell in the rooms. The trap bend must be under the pan (at least 1.5 m).If you want to drain the condensate directly into a tank, leave it open and do not plunge the pipe into the water, to prevent any adhesion and counterpressure phenomena which are likely to hinder the outflow. If you have to overcome a drop to discharge the condensate, mount a pump (accessory kit): in case of installation vertical position the pump under the side drain pan, while for horizontal installation the position can be chosen according to specific requirements. In any case, follow the instruction leaflet included in the condensate discharge pump kit.ImportantTo check the correct outflow, once the installation is completed, we recommend that you pour some water into the condensate pan very slowly (e.g.: pour 1/2 litre of water in 5 - 10 minutes).
SCARICO CONDENSA (montaggio pompa)

DESCRIPTION OF SOFTWARE OPERATION
The push-button on the control panel allows you to select the following functions: STBY, MAX, AUTO, NOISLESS, NIGHT, ELECTRIC HEATING; the selection of any of these options exclude the others, and the function remains stored also in case of a power failure. The electric heating function can be selected only with the relevant version. The set point is preset with the potentiometer (slider), on a scale ranging between “SPL” and “SPH” °C, for both winter and summer operation. The “dirty filter” function includes the simultaneous switching on of 5 intermittent function LED's, when the motor fan reaches “ACL” hours of work; to reset this function press and hold down the "mode" key for 5 seconds.STBYThe fan, boiler control and resistor outputs are off; the “electro valve” outputs are on; the LED's are off; the serial communication is enabled.AUTOMain reference function. Based on the set point and the room temperature, the system controls the outputs through the logics illustrated in the graphs below. With ta values included in the proportional band (0.2 ..10°K), MV1 is controlled with a PI algorithm (integrative proportional); if the water temperature is not within the range pre-determined for the on mode, MV1 is disabled. The selection of the heating or cooling mode is automatic, and is discriminated by the air temperature and affected by the water temperature; two LED's indicate the mode which can be enabled. If the water temperature does not reach, within a preset time, a value appropriate to the on mode, the system is locked. If the water does not reach within “ADL” minutes a value that shall not damage the on mode (ta – twater >5°K / opposite trend), the system is locked (all the outputs and the LED's are turned off). For example: the release is automatic after 60 minutes or when you switch from the heating mode to the cooling mode and vice-versa, in manual mode, by pressing the push-button. To minimise the possibility of a lock in the intermediate seasons, a neutral zone has been provided, which is useful to prevent the oscillation between the two modes.

The operation of the machine (graph 1) is of integrative proportional type, i.e. it adjusts the speed of the fan according to the room conditions, and decreases it as the set point is reached (proportional contribution), since it works more or less according to the time required to approach the set point (integrative contribution). During heating operation, the fan is disabled when the set point-BC temperature is reached, and the system continues to heat statically (excited EV), up until the set point is finally reached. MAXIMUMThe operation is the same as the auto mode, but the proportional bands are excluded: ON/OFF fan control at maximum speed.NOISELESSThe operation is the same as the auto mode, with proportional integrative control, but the maximum MV1 speed is limited.NIGHTThe operation is the same as the auto mode, with proportional integrative control, but the maximum MV1 speed is limited and SP is reduced by 1 °C after 1 hour and by another degree after 2 hours during winter operation, and vice-versa during summer operation.ELECTRIC HEATERLike the auto mode, but if the hot water temperature is lower than a pre-fixed value (e.g.: 35°C, a typical value if the boiler is off) and Ta < SP, the electric heater is turned on. MV1 is supplied at a pre-determined voltage, the heating/cooling LED's are turned on like in the auto mode.
RATIO OF SLIDER POSITIONTO SETPOINT
The table below indicates the addresses of the main shop-modifiable control parameters (in the limit value range, upon demand of the customer)

Remote unit (stand alone)This function is activated only from a master unit through a serial connection. The unit is equipped with one push button and one led: the button allows to switch the unit off and to reset the filter cleaning timer; the led gives the state indication visualizing also eventual failures. Basic operation parameters, set point and ambient temperature are equally transmitted from the master to all the local units, which operate all in the same way. Correlations between LED and messages are the following:
Since several information are visualized trough the same led, some priorities have been given: for instance fan coil on, dirty filter and water blocking: only the last one is visualized.
Self configuration
The master gives automatically different and unique addresses to all the connected fan coil.Default address is “001” for every fan coil, and to set automatically the network the units shall be switched on one by one waiting, from one to another, that the led stops blinking. In case of system up dating or wrong installation, each fan coil can be brought back to the default address by switching it off and pushing the button continuously for at least 10 s, then repeating the self configuration procedure.
NOTE
For serial communication the used protocol is MODBUS in SLAVE mode; basic regulation parameters can be modified if it is required by the customer. It is possible to connect up to 31 units to the master (RS485).In case of temperature sensor failure (PF) or alarm, the electronics will turn to stand by mode with both blue and read led blinking. Once the alarm/failure is solved the operation restarts automatically.
RECCOMANDATIONS FOR CONNECTING THE UNITS TO THE MASTER
Derivation length for each unit shall be minimised as much as possible (max allowed length is 2m).Star connection of the units to the master is strongly forbidden. The connecting line shall finish with a resistance of 120 ohm (≥0.25 W), that could be placed on the last fan coil between the terminals A e B. The connection RS485 is polarized: it is mandatory to respect positions A and B on each unit.
In order to optimise the connection wiring it is recommended to use shielded cables. The connection ring length shall not overcome 1000 m.
FUNZIONAMENTO COME UNITÀ REMOTA
AUTOCONFIGURAZIONE
NOTE
Comunicazione seriale, il protocollo usato è il MODBUS in modalità SLAVE
