Model 145/146 old version

Remove the cluster and open it.

Look for the 68 pin prozessor by Magneti-Marelli.



Connect the cables as shown in the picture.

Select the menu ALFA 145 - old. The Tacho Universal displays the old

value

Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.

Connect pin 57 (red cable) of the processor back to the circuit board.



Model 145/146 new version

Use the Peugeot 406 cable:

The blue cable comes from the 4 cables that belong together, the green from the 2 data cables that belong together. The green marked pins have to be connected together. Hochlten=Lift pin Blaues Kabel=Blue cable Grn-Data Kabel=Green DATA-Cable - Verbinden=connect



Model 156

Use the Alfa 156 cable:

Blau=blue Grn=green

Schwarz=black Rot=red

1. Remove the cluster and open it.

2. Connect the black probe to the marked test-point.

3. Connect the cables as shown in the picture.

4. Select the menu ALFA 156. Tacho Universal displays the old value.

5. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Note: If the handheld stays very long at MOMENT when writing (over 2 minutes) please restart. Remove the programming plug from the handheld. Go to the Alfa 156 menue. Put the plug in the handheld and press as fast as possible OK. When the handheld has read the old value, remove the programming plug again. Enter the new value, put the plug back in and press immediately OK`.



Troubleshooting TIP: Some times the 156 have problems with the electrical loading, try these steps to program it: 1. Dont connect the plug to the Tach 2. Go to the menu 156 3. connect the plug now 4. choose immediately 156 5. after reading disconnect the plug for 30 seconds, type in the new value 6. connect the plug and choose immediately writing you can try to connect the components of the cluster to Ground to eliminate the electrical loading



Model 156 after 12/2001

Use the Scorpio-cable:


Connect the marked points


Select the menu ALFA 156. 2002-

The Tacho Universal displays the old value.

Enter the new value.

Verify the new value with OK.

Remove the complete circuit board. (somewhere on the board you can see the manufacturer. If it is Magneti Marelli you have to send us the instrument).

Connect the cables as shown in the picture

Join pin 1 + 2 at the processor with a screwdriver

Select the menu ALFA 164 Delco

The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. If it is not correct, you may

also have to lift the pin for the yellow cable.

Use this board and Clip :

Put the clip on the Chip 93C56 (RED on Pin 1).

Model Spider & GTV

Use the Spider/GTV- plug:

Processors marked 68HC705B16 cant be programmed with the Tacho Universal!!

Clean the processor

Disconnect pin 22 of the ZC422 187 CFN processor. Lift pin 10 of the IC HCT14A . Put the GTV plug onto the processor. Watch the pin 1 mark! Connect the power supply (red= +, black= -). Join the GTV plug to the Tacho Universal. Connect the Tacho Universal with the power supply. The old value is not displayed (????????). Enter the new value. When the Tacho Universal displays Reset press the red button on the

plug for less than 1 second.

After programming join pin 22 + 23 Re-connect pin 10.

Diagnostic programming Use the OBD II -plug:

The diagnostic port is in the middle console of the car.

Turn ignition on.

Connect the Tacho Universal to the OBD II plug and the diagnostic port.

Select the menu AUDI-A3-VDO-Diagnosis






Model A3 / S3 UKNSI

Use this board and clip:



Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C56 (not the chip 93C46!)



Select the menu Audi-A3-UK NSI-Clip.







Model A3 / S3 VDO after Model 2000 Cluster-plug To recognize model 2000, take a look at the clock. If it is electronic, it is model 2000, if it is mechanic it is an older model.

Use this Cluster-plug:

Remove the cluster.

Connect the blue and the green plug to the instrument.

Select the menu Audi-A3-A3 2000-Diagnosis 2000.




Note: If the displayed value is not correct, you can continue programming, most time it works anyway You cannot destroy anything. If you cannot change the value this way, you have to program by clip.



Model A3 / S3 VDO after Model 2000 Clip To recognize model 2000, take a look at the clock. If it is electronic, it is model 2000, if it is mechanic it is an older model.



2. Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C86.

3. Look for the silver chrystal and join its contacts.

4. Connect the clip to Port 0.

5. Put the clip on the Chip 93C86 (RED on Pin 1).

6. Select the menu Audi-A3-A3 2000- Clip 2000.

7. The Tacho Universal shows you the old value.

8. Select the menu Adjust KM.





Model A3 / S3 Magneti Marelli after Model 2000 To recognize model 2000, take a look at the clock. If it is electronic, it is model 2000, if it is mechanic it is an older model.



2. Connect the blue and the green plug to the instrument.

3. Also connect the black and the red cables like shown in the picture.

4. IMPORTANT: You must not move the black and the red contact when

beginning to read until you are ready with programming. A good contact is absolutely necessary.!!!

5. Select the menu Audi-A3-A3 2000-Magneti Marelli.




Note: If the handheld shows you out of range the contact was bad or the database may be corrupted. For security reasons you cannot program the instrument at this moment. Normally it will be possible to program again after driving about 100 km.



Model A4 / S4 VDO up to Model 2000

Diagnostic programming

Use the OBD II-plug:

The diagnostic port is in the back of the car in the ashtray.

Note: There are different instrument versions. To find the right one, you have to try which one gives you the right value when reading. Reading will not corrupt the database. But only program with the version that gives you the correct value!

Turn ignition on.

Connect the Tacho Universal to the OBD II plug and the diagnostic port.

Select the menu Audi-A4-VDO old- Diagnosis o or Audi-A4-VDO old MFA-Diagnosis o or Audi-A4-VDO new-Diagnosis

The Tacho Universal shows you with one of these programs the old value.





Model A4 / S4 UK NSI


Note: There are different instrument versions. To find the right one, you have to try which one gives you the right value when reading. Reading will not corrupt the database. But only program with the version that gives you the correct value!



Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C56 (not the chip 93C46!)

Use those two plugs and connect them:

The diagnostic port is in the fuse box in the motorroom Turn ignition on. Connect the Tacho Universal with both plugs to the diagnostic port. Select the menu AUDI A6 A6 old - Diagnosis. The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Note: If you cannot read the old value or or nothing changes when programming, let the engine run. Maybe you have to try several times, also try different values, it will work.



Model A6 / S6 VDO, new Model up to Model 2000


Use the OBD II-plug

The diagnostic port near your left knee when you sit on the drivers seat. Turn ignition on. Connect the Tacho Universal to the OBD II plug and the diagnostic port Select the menu AUDI-A6-A6 new-Diagnosis The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.



Model A6 / S6 UK NSI


Remove the cluster and open it. Look for the silver chrystal and join its contacts. Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C56 (not the chip 93C46!). Connect the clip to Port 1. Put the clip on the Chip 93C56 (RED on Pin 1). Select the menu Audi-A6-UK NSI-Clip The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.

Model A6,A3,A2 VDO after 06/2001

Remove the cluster Connect the VAG-blue plug to the instrument Write down the original km-value Open the cluster, join the silver chrystal contacts, use Port 93CX6 Audi->A6(A3,A2)->A6 2002 VDO->VDO2002 R+W read and store. The Tacho Universal does not show you the old value. Remove the bridge at the silver chrystal, assemble the cluster and

clock it with the VAG-blue plug 40km (connect 100-300Hz on the blue cable of the VAG-blue plug)

Dont clock faster than 260 km/h. Power off, Power on and write down the second Km value. Open the cluster, join the silver chrystal contacts, use Port 93CX6 Audi->A6(A3,A2)->A6 2002 VDO->VDO2002 R+W read and store. The Tacho Universal does not show you the old value. Choose Audi->A6(A3,A2)->A6 2002 VDO->VDO2002 R+W and

choose the 2 datasets and type in the values. If the 2 datasets are correct the Tacho Universal will ask for the new

value. Write the now produced third dataset with the new value back on

the eeprom with VDO2002 R+W->Complete write (join the silver chrystal contacts again).

Model A8 / S8 up to ~ 1/1999



The diagnostic port is under the ashtray. There is an old and a new version. The old version was built before 10/1996. If the program

shows you with the old version a wrong value, try the new version.( ???? is ok for the value then).

Turn ignition on. Connect the Tacho Universal to the OBD II plug and the diagnostic port. Select the menu Audi-A8-A8 old-Diagnosis

or Audi-A8-A8 new Diagnosis (different from year) The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. (for A8 new the value ????? is ok) Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Note: If the new value is not displayed after programming, try this: Turn ignition off. Pull out the fuse for the odometer for a few seconds. (fuse Nr. 8 or 9 in the black line) Now the new value should be displayed



Model A8 / S8 after ~ 2/1999





4. Put the clip on Chip 24C17 (RED on Pin1).

5. Select the menu Audi A8 A8 24C17 V1

6. The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. (if not select the menu AUDI- A8-A8 24C17 V2).






Model TT up to Model 2000



The diagnostic port near your left knee when you sit on the drivers seat. Turn ignition on. Connect the Tacho Universal to the OBD II plug and the diagnostic port. Select the menu AUDI-Audi TT-TT Diagnosis Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. For some models you have to enter the old value on demand. Note: If you cannot change the value, the cluster is model 2000.



Model TT after Model 2000


Remove the cluster and open it. Connect the blue and the green plug to the instrument. Also connect the black and the red cables like shown in the picture.

IMPORTANT: You must not move the black and the red contact when beginning to read until you are ready with programming. A good contact is absolutely necessary.

Select the menu Audi-Audi TT-TT 2000 The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Note: If the handheld shows you out of range the contact was bad or the database may be corrupted. For security reasons you cannot program the instrument at this moment. Normally it will be possible to program again after driving about 100 km.

progress is shown in %. If the Tacho Universal finds the code The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.

Turn ignition off. Pull out the fuse for the odometer for a few seconds. Fuse Nr 15. Now the new value should be displayed



Model Magneti Marelli 2001Diagnosis

Use the OBD II-plug

Connect the Tacho Universal to the OBD II plug and the diagnostic port Select the menu AUDI-A3-A4-or-A6 2000-MagMar 07.2001- The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Enter the new value. The Tacho Universal shows 0 km. Select the menu store.




Enter now the old value and verify with OK.

The Tacho Universal shows the value that can be programed now

If this value is too high or too low, load the stored dataset and try again.

Use the BMW Diagnostic plug with the connector old:

The diagnostic port is in the motorroom under a round cap.

Turn ignition on.

Connect the Tacho Universal to the BMW diagnostic plug and the diagnostic port.

Select the menu BMW-3 series E36-Diagnosis






Modell 3 series E36 Software 24

Remove the cluster.

Open it (pull the two parts of it away from each other).

On front of the board you can see the 8pin chip 93C46 or B58323. Remove the paint on it to get access to pin 1+2

Put the board back in the car and connect it with the plugs.

Connect pin 1+2 on the chip with a little screw-driver.

Turn ignition on and disconnect pin 1+2 after 1 second.

The display now shows , EEP 1 or Code N1. Connect the Tacho Universal to the BMW diagnostic plug and the diagnostic port.





Turn ignition off.

Disconnect the board from the car. If you connect it again, the new value will be

displayed.



Modell 3 series E36 Compact up to Software 7

Use this cluster-plug:

Remove the cluster.

Connect the plug with the blue port and put the 3 pin plug in the 4 pin

port left down on the instrument. Put this plug in as it is easy. If it is hart to position, it is upside down!

Select the menu BMW Z3/COMPACT Diagnosis The Tacho Universal does not show you the old value. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.

If the Tacho Universal shows: remove plug, the programming was correct.

Otherwise control the position of the 3pin plug and try again.



Modell 3 series E36 Compact Software 20-23


Remove the cluster.

Connect the cluster plug with the white and blue port and the TachoUniversal







Modell Z3 Roadster up to Software 7


Remove the cluster. Connect the plug with the blue port and put the 3 pin plug in the 4 pin

port left down on the instrument. Put this plug in as it is easy. If it is hart to position, it is upside down!

Select the menu BMW Z3/COMPACT Diagnosis

The Tacho Universal does not show you the old value.


If the Tacho Universal shows: remove plug, the programming was correct.

Otherwise control the position of the 3pin plug and try again



Modell Z3 Roadster up to Software 7


Remove the cluster. Remove the rear plastic cover. Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C46 Remove this chip from the board. Connect the clip to Port 1. Select the menu BMW-Z3/Compact -Innen The Tacho Universal shows you a wrong value Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Take the code plug out. Put the code plug on port 1. The pins of the code plug are marked on the

bottom in the plastic. Pin 1 of the code plug must be positioned on pin 1 of the board.

Select the menu BMW-Z3/Compact-Aussen . The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.



Modell Z3 Roadster Sw 9 up to Sw 11


Remove the cluster. Remove the rear plastic cover. Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C56 Remove this chip from the board. Connect the clip to Port 1. Select the menu BMW-Z3/Compact SW 9-SW 11 -Innen The Tacho Universal shows you a wrong value Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Take the code plug out. Put the code plug on port 1. The pins of the code plug are marked on the

bottom in the plastic. Pin 1 of the code plug must be positioned on pin 1 of the board.

Select the menu BMW-Z3/Compact-SW 9-SW 11-Aussen . The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.



Modell Z8


Remove the cluster. Remove the rear plastic cover.

Look for the 8 pin Chip 93C56


Select the menu BMW-Z8







Modell 3 series E46 up to Software 16


Remove the cluster. Remove the rear plastic cover. Take out the pins (clock and day-km) from the front . Remove all needles (against the clockwise direction) Clip off the display carefully. Now you can take off the circuit board. Look for the 8pin Chip B58 608 (=93C66) Look for the silver crystal near the chip and join its contacts Connect the clip to Port 2. Put the clip on the Chip B58 608 (RED on Pin 1). Select the menu BMW-3 series E46-Clip The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. If the value is not correct, try

Port 1 and Port 0. Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Now select the menu BMW-3 series E46-Service The Tacho Universal may read a wrong value, if the car already has to be

Remove the cluster. Look on the rear for a small plastic cover. Under it you can see a brown,

blue or green code plug. You have to break this cover to get the code plug out.

Take the code plug out. Put the brown or blue code plug on port 1. The pins of the code plug are

marked on the bottom in the plastic. Pin 1 of the code plug must be positioned on pin 1 of the board.

If the code plug is green, put it on the board BMW grn. There you can also see the shape of the code plug Put the plug carefully on the socket.

Select the menu BMW-5er/7er-blue o or BMW-5er/7er-brown o or BMW 5er/7er-green

The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.



Modell 5 series E39 low (instrument with 1 button) up to Software 16

Diagnostic programming.

Use the BMW Diagnostic plug with the connector new:


Turn ignition on.

Connect the Tacho Universal to the BMW diagnostic plug and the diagnostic port.

Select the menu Tacho Universal

BMW-5er/7er-E39 low- Diagnosis (up to Software 14) or BMW-5er/7er-E39 low- Diagnosis SW 15 (for Software 15) or BMW-5er/7er-E39 low- Diagnosis SW 16 (for Software 16)




If the value does not change, try again with the connector old.

Connect the cluster plug with the white and blue port and the Tachouniversal. Ensure that the red point on each plug faces pin 1 on the instruments port.

instrument.



The Tacho Universal asks after a while OK or UNDO

If you take a sharpe look at the display now, you can see the new value. If it is good, press OK, if not, you can undo everything with STOP



Modell 5 series E39 high IKE (Instrument with 2 buttons) Software 13

Use this board and cable:

Remove the cluster. Turn the cross-shaped plastic pins on the back in a not disturbing

position. Take the front away and remove all the Torx-screws. Remove the board with solving the lockings in the 3 plug-ports. Look for the points on the board you can see on the picture. Remove the

red paint that covers the contacts. Connect the cables as shown in the picture. Look for the silver crystal and join its contacts. Connect the clip to Port 2. Select the menu BMW-5er/7er-E38/39 high IKE-Clip SW13 The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. The Tacho Universal shows

you the old value, if it is wrong, go to Show. If the database is ok, you may continue. If not check the cables.

Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK.

Verify the new value with OK. . If the new value is not displayed, try to program again with open doors, open windows or any combination of it. If it still does not work, remove all plugs from the instrument. Close and lock the car for about 2 minutes. Open it, turn ignition on and program again. Put the instrument back in. Now it should be ok. If even this does not work, continue like this:




Remove the cover under the steering wheel.

Take out the EKM-modul (looks like a video cassette).

Look for the 8 pin chip 93C56.

Put the clip on the chip 93C56 (RED on Pin 1).

All Models with a M35080 Chip

Use this Board and the special clip: M35080

This chip is used in all E46, E38, E39 and X5 after Model 2001. The model 2001 you recognize by the new OBD II-socket in the car interior, instead of the BMW-typical round socket in the motorroom. This chip can be placed only upward, not downward. So there are two possibilities to set the wanted value:

You can buy a new cluster (with a new chip inside), if you put this cluster in a car he will get the original KM. This cluster will be counted from 0 to the wanted value. This happens about the plug 912

The original Chip M35080 will be replaced through a new one.



Method 1: new cluster This proceeding is also for the other models, the program from the E46 is always used! Use the 912 plug:

Connect the cables with the original cluster as described in the plan:

Select the menu BMW-3 series E46- 35080- Tacho-->Tacho Universal The Tacho Universal stored the original Dataset, confirm with a key. Connect the new cluster as described in the plan Select the menu BMW-3 series E46-35080- Tacho--> Tacho universal. Now you see a list of stored datasets. Load the newest one. Now the cluster is new coded. Select the menu BMW-3 series E46-35080- Clock

Type in the new value. The KM are now counting upward, this can take a while. Please supervise the actual value.



Grn: green - Gelb: yellow - Schwarz: black - Weiss: white



Methode 2: new chip

Use the M35080 board and clip:

Connect the clip to Port M35080. Put the clip on the original removed M35080 (RED on Pin 1). Select the menu BMW-3 series E46-35080-Clip The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Store the dataset. Set the clip on the new 35080 Chip. Select the menu Load. Choose the newest dataset and write it with complete Writing on the new chip,

this can take a while. The Error-Message Data unequal you can ignore Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Put the new chip back on the board.

Important: Do not programm values less than 300km!!!



E38/39 High after Sw14 E39 Low after Sw17 1. The marked spring is mobile on the axle and very sensitively. 2. Lock the axle between the spring and the circuit board. You can do it

very strong, the axle is very stable. 3. Use a sheet of paper to save the cluster-foil for scratches. Then you

can remove the needles. 4. The economy-needle can be removed with the special remover. You

have to remove the cover first.

E38/39 High after Sw14 E39 Low after Sw17 1. The Eeprom M35080 is on the rear side of the board. Remove this chip. Put the clip on the original removed M35080 (RED on Pin 1). Select the menu BMW-3 series E46-35080-Clip The Tacho Universal shows you the old value. Store the dataset. Set the clip on the new 35080 Chip. Select the menu Load. Choose the newest dataset and write it with complete Writing on the new chip, this can take a while. The Error-Message Data unequal you can ignore Select the menu Adjust KM. Enter the new value. Verify the new value with OK. Put the new chip back on the board and store the original chip. 2. After the programming set the pointer in the right position, this is 1 mm

behind the stopper. Test that the pointers are going to the 0-position. Never program less than 300 km



Modell 5er/7er E39 Low SW 9/10/11 Diagnosis

Remove the cluster.

Connect the Plug with the black and the white socket at the cluster.

Select the menu BMW 5er/7er E39 Low Diagnosis

Programming EWS /Light-Module(LKM) and keys

Remove first the EWS (ignition lock) (driver floor space behind the cover), then the LKM (front seat passenger side on the A-column) and then the cluster. First erase the EWS, then the keys, program the LKM and then the instrument. Put the modules back in the car: First the EWS, then the LKM and the cluster. REMEMBER to check for the RED pin of the EWS.



Hochlten & Gelb: lift pin & yellow cable Hochlten & Blau: lift pin & blue cable



Kurz auf Masse wenn Auslesen nicht mglich: Put it on Minus if you get no value Hochlten & Gelb: lift pin & yellow cable - Hochlten & Blau: lift pin & blue cable



If you cant read out the value, connect a 1KOhm resistor to the brown marked point, choose V3 and before you press OK hold the resistor on Minus(-)



If you get no value connect the blue (blau) and the yellow (gelb) cable directly to the lifted pins of the processor (like the E46LKM)



If you get no value, connect the marked point with a 1,5KOhm resistor before the reading shortly to the ring of the the power supply of the Tacho Universal (screw 3,5mm on the right side) Gelb DATA: yellow DATA - Blau DATA: blue DATA



35080 Erase for the following clusters

rcksetzen For all BMW`s with the BMW Diagnosticport (not OBD-II) 1. Take a stell wire. 2. Turn ignition on, dont start the engine. 3. Connect the contacts with the wire, wait (3 or 12 seconds) then disconnect the wire. Hint: The time must be exactly, otherwise no success, try again. Reset-Contacts: 19 and 7 To reset the LED for Oilservice ~ 3 seconds connect. To reset the LED for inspection ~ 12 seconds connect.



BMW new models with OBD Diagnostic-port

Turn ignition off press left button and hold - ignition on position 1 Hold the left button till 5 seconds after Test 1 then Oilservice or Inspection is displayed. Press again the left button to reset the service, if you press not long enough, the brake fluid interval will be displayed, you can press left to reset it.
