MANUAL SYSTEMS All tasks relating to guest and venue activities
are completed manually, in written form. The only automation is possibly a calculator. Manual system uses booking diaries and
conventional charts to keep track reservations; color-coded room racks to keep track of room types, room status and room occupancy/availability and tabular ledgers for recording financial transactions. All of these functions are routinely built into computerized PMS program
Booking - are similar to any diary in that they record reservation details by date.

A tabular ledger – is a financial record-keeping method. It provides details of guests and the services and products consumed by each guest. As a guest consumes a service or product, the charge incurred is recorded. The also provides for the recording of all payments received, allowances and discounts and the total to be carried forward to the next day.
SEMI-AUTOMATED SYSTEMS – is one in which much data is processed manually but there is some automation, particularly in accounting area of front office, such as using a cash register or more sophisticated point of sale (PoS) system (with one or multiple terminals), and, of course a calculator

FULLY AUTOMATED SYSTEMS – in theory, use a minimal amount of handwritten information. Information is entered into a computer where it is compiled, maintained, updated, stored and processed. A computerized PMS can perform all the tasks undertaken in a manual system. Record and maintain guest reservations (individual
and group) Register guests Record and maintain guest and nonguest financial
transaction Create and maintain guest history profiles Generate reports and collate statistical data Monitor and control housekeeping functions Manage maintenance issues
