Mannes Prep has mentored aspiring
musicians for more than 100 years. Under
the direction of award-winning faculty, young
students at all levels flourish in performance
ensembles, through individual instruction,
and in music theory courses. Mannes Prep
now meets downtown in our newly renovated
learning and performance space.
Programs are organized into the following age
and grade categories: ages 4–6; grades 1–4;
grades 5–8; grades 9–12. Contact program
administrators at 212.580.0210 x4841 or
[email protected] for audition
dates and application details. See how far
Mannes Prep students are taking their music
practice at public concerts of symphony
orchestras, string orchestras, chorus
ensembles, and chamber groups as well as
weekly student performances.
Recent Mannes Prep graduates have gone
on to attend premier music schools and
universities including Mannes School of
Music, The Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute
of Music, Johns Hopkins University/Peabody
Institute, Stanford University, MIT, and

writing, acting, and filmmakingLang Summer Writing Intensives
Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, recently
included on The Princeton Review’s annual
“Best Colleges” list, invites high school juniors
and seniors to take a college-level writing
intensive course in fiction at The New School.
This four-week writing intensive at Lang helps
you develop your own voice in a supportive
atmosphere. The course features peer-to-
peer collaboration, immersive study, and
networking with professionals, artists, and
activists.
Filmmaking Intensive and summeracting intensive for stage
Other youth programs offered at The New
School include four-week credit-bearing
summer intensive programs in filmmaking
and in acting.
The filmmaking intensive, Film, Art, Change:
Making Movies to Make a Difference, is open
to high school juniors and seniors interested
in exploring the history and practice of movie
making by studying 16mm filmmaking and
high-definition digital techniques and tools.
In this small collaborative program, taught by
faculty of The New School’s School of Media
Studies, young media makers benefit from
individual attention and mentoring.
In the acting intensive, professional faculty
from The New School’s School of Drama and
teaching artists active on the New York City
theater scene lead students ages 15 and
older in developing stage acting techniques
and skills through coaching, workshops, and
exercises in artistic engagement.

“ One beautiful thing about filmmaking is that it brings people together, which is exactly what I experienced in this course.”
—Natalie Komissarova Filmmaking intensive alumna
At Open Campus—The New School’s innovative approach to continuing education—young minds from pre-K through high school benefit from the resources that only a comprehensive university can provide. Rigorous, creative curricula throughout the year. Renowned faculty mentors. Intellectually curious, diverse peers. An encouraging yet challenging educational environment. They discover not just a course but a new kind of network supporting their personal and academic growth.
Innovative Open Campus courses with Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris, Mannes School of Music, and Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts take students’ talent in art and design, music, writing, film, and drama to new heights. Along the way, they develop friendships and skills that last a lifetime.

entering college or dive deep into music while in first grade, you can
