Dr. Gordon Goldsborough is an active member of the Manitoba Historical Society, being Head Researcher, Webmaster, and an Editor of Manitoba History magazine. He has mapped thousands of historic sites around the province, and has written four books on Manitoba history including the national bestsellers Abandoned Manitoba and More Abandoned Manitoba.He is presently doing a weekly series on CBC Radio 1.

Shawn Dias – City of Morden 9:00 – 9:30

Presentation topic: City of Morden’s Urban Forestry Plan

Shawn Dias is the Manager of Parks and Urban Forestry for the City of Morden. Shawn studied forestry on Vancouver Island and at the University of British Columbia which lead to a forestry and parks career. Shawn is an ISA and Provincially Certifi ed Arborist, his responsibilities include the maintenance of a city-wide tree inven-tory, urban forest management plan, ash strategy, DED preventative maintenance program, Community Forest Agreement and most recently, helping to spearhead a Manitoba Urban Forest Council.

Presentation: Morden has developed a comprehensive plan to manage their inventory of over 5000 trees on public property, including nearly 2000 Ash trees. Learn about the steps Morden is taking to maintain, improve and protect their urban forest.

Jason Vanrobaeys – Research Station 9:35 – 10:00

Presentation topic: Living Labs Initiative

Jason grew up near Elie, Manitoba. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, a Master of Science in Environment and Geography, and an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Sys-tems. He has worked for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada since 2000 and has been at the Morden Research and Development Centre since 2006. His experience includes over 20 years of soil and water conservation proj-ects with a specialization in hydrology, water quality, and watershed management technology. He is currently focusing on research, development and technology transfer initiatives related to water and nutrient manage-ment in agricultural watersheds in the Lake Winnipeg Basin.

Presentation: Jason will be presenting on the Living Labs initiative. A new and innovative program led by Agri-culture and Agri-Food Canada to conduct environmental research and extension activities on farms in Canada. The focus of presentation will be on the Manitoba based site called the Eastern Prairie Living Lab.

Mark Milne – Enviro Clean 10:15 – 10:45

Presentation Topic: Morden Leads the Way: A better way to process food and green waste!

Mark Milne has spent many years in agricultural related business from grain handling to livestock feed and husbandry production systems. For the last 14 years he has extensively traveled researching the many ways various countries deal with processing carbon waste. This has led him to perfecting a commercial scale Aerobic Rapid BioDigestion system. A fast, effi cient and arguably one of most the green projects on the planet.

Presentation: Composting is a natural process, but the world over, few have applied technology and science to this way to convert waste into a great resource that can be benefi cial on many levels. Including: improving soils for crops; carbon sequestration; and reduce greenhouse gasses. The presentation will cover this fascinat-ing and exciting development.

Shelly Voth – City of Morden 10:50 – 11:15

Presentation topic: Morden’s Immigration Program: Growing the Community Through Diversity and Integration

Shelly Voth is the Immigration Coordinator for the City of Morden’s Community Driven Immigration Initiative. Having joined the City of Morden in 2013, her previous experience includes private industry Human Resources, Human Resource Consultancy, and works as a licensed Immigration consultant/business manager. Shelly has obtained a BA in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg and diplomas in Immigration Consultancy and Human Resource Management.

Presentation: Morden’s reputation of attracting and integrating newcomers to Canada has gained national attention. The program was developed in partnership with the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program to as-sist Morden’s businesses in meeting their labour shortages. Immigration planning also continues to further Morden’s economic growth in other areas such as business attraction and growth, settlement initiatives and newcomer integration.

This presentation will give an overview of Morden’s Immigration Program, how it is helping grow the economy, and how immigrants have and will shape the demographic fabric of life in our beautiful city.

Peter Cantelon – Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre 11:30 – 12:00

Presentation Topic: Volunteerism in the Age of Decline

Peter Cantelon lives in Morden and is the Executive Director of the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre. He also writes three columns a month for the local community newspaper.

Presentation: Volunteerism has been steadily declining for years now and many volunteer run/driven organiza-tions are reaching a crisis point? What can we do to turn the tide. Tips and tricks.

Ruth Reimer – Katie Cares 1:00 – 1:30

Presentation topic: SEE IT... BELIEVE IT…ACHIEVE IT…Ruth Reimer: Kaitlyn’s mom

Katie Cares came from Kaitlyn and her experience of being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 13. Seeing through her eyes what was needed to provide comfort to others at the hospital. She had a vision to provide comfort and care at a time of need. Ruth along with her husband Randy, son John and his family are carrying on the dream and vision of their daughter and sister. Katie Cares was the vision and dream of the late Kaitlyn Reimer. The charity has built a cottage directly east of Boundary Trails Hospital. The cottage provides a home away from home, for those who have a loved one in hospital. The Reimer family live and work in Winkler and are proud to be living in the Pembina Valley region.

Studios will be open Saturday, September 7 from 10am-6pm, and Sunday, September 8 from 12noon-5pm.

There is no admission fee, but artwork is for sale at many of the venues. Come enjoy a scenic drive around the Pembina Valley while taking the tour. A separate guide will be provided in the

participants welcome bag with additional information and locations.

The Pembina Hills Art Gallery is located at 325 Stephen Street which hosts a featured art display, items for purchase and many historical features.

Tours are available Saturday from 10:00am – 4:00pm
