2 / Introduction to electionsYour Students’ Union holds elections in order to allow you to choose your stu-dent representatives for the next academic year. There are 8 full time elected officers who will work on a full time basis, taking a break from their studies or immediately after graduation, and 8 part time elected officers who will work on a part time basis alongside their ongoing studies. They are your voice and act as your representatives in the union, university and wider community, fighting for you on institutional, local and national level. Alongside these positions we also elect a Student Council chair who helps you

as students hold the officers to account and delegates to attend NUS Wales and NUS UK conferences on behalf of Cardiff students’.These manifestos contain the ideas and principles of the candidates that want

to lead your union next year and represent your voice. Ask yourself if they dis-play key creative and communicative skills that you would like to see in someone who is representing you and your needs. If you don’t feel any of the candidates standing in a position have the qualities

you feel are valuable, or you do not agree with their manifesto, you can vote RON. RON stands for “re-open nominations”. This means, should RON be more popular than any of the other candidates, no-one would be elected to this role and the nominations for the role would re-open, giving the opportunity to find the right person to lead your union.

What are full time elected officers?Full time elected officers are all former or current students elected by the student body. For twelve months they form the full component of the executive commit-tee as well as become members of the Students’ Union Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.

It is their role to:

level. Ensuring that students can get the most out of their university life.

the institution continues to go from strength to strength with the best interest of students at heart.

manner that ensures that students needs are at the centre of everything we do.

As well as a number of general elected officer duties each elected candidate will have a specific area of responsibility which is detailed in their position title throughout this manifesto booklet.

The best candidate for your President:

The Most Experienced Candidate: During my timeatCardiffIhavebeenyourWomen’sOffi-cerandStudentsWithDisabilitiesOfficer,beento NUS Wales and NUS National to represent you, founded a society, been an academic rep, ran new associations, completed the Cardiff Award, used the Development Unit and ARC, been part of SVC and RAG, restarted SHAG, been in sports teams, written for Quench and Gair Rhydd and presented on CUTV. I have been involved in every single aspect of the union, so I am best placed to run it.

IVOTE CLAIRE FOR PRESIDENT

CARI DAVIES

I’m currently the Athletic Union President at the Students’ Union; and in a time of change (new CEO and Vice-Chancellor) continuity matters. I don’t just care about sports, I care about students. As President I will champion projects that improve your student experience at Cardiff University.2Arhynobryd,fiywLlywyddyrUndebAth-letau yn Undeb y Myfyrwyr; ac mewn cyfnod o newid (Prif Swyddog Gweithredol ac Is-Ganghellor newydd), mae parhad yn bwysig. Nid dim ond chwaraeon sy'n bwysig i mi, ond myfyrwyr.FelLlywydd,byddafynhyrwyddoprosiectausy'ngwellaeichprofiadfelmyfyri-wr ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd.

Do you like . . .not having good enough transport links between residences and the different campuses?that you can’t pay by card in cafes yet there are so few cash points on campus?not having purpose built studios to rehearse in?not having your lectures recorded and available online?being forced to attend an AGM where votes are counted by a show of hands?that you don’t know about student events?that sports facilities aren’t as good as you de-serve?the front of the Students’ Union and the lack of outdoor social space?sub-standard hall of residence?Cardiff’s quiet voice on post study work visas for international students? If you answered no to any of these please vote Cari.

There shouldn’t be so many things that you don’t like, this needs to change. To see how, visit votecari.co.uk.

TOM PINNELL

My vision for the continuation of the Students’ Union culminates in providing its members with the best possible grounding for success, both during their studies, and after graduation. I want to take a dynamic and modern approach to supporting fellow students, in order to invest in your future.

Mae rhoi sail gadarn i lwyddiant aelodau Un-deb y Myfyrwyr, boed hynny yn ystod eu hastudiaethau neu ar ôl graddio, wrth wraidd fy ngweledigaeth ar gyfer parhad yr Undeb. Rwyf am gefnogi fy nghyd-fyfyrwyr mewn modd dy-namig a modern, er mwyn buddsoddi yn eich dyfodol.

As a 4th year bioscience student, I have been involved in many aspects of the Union and experienced a number of the services it has to offer. I now want to take my experiences and translate them into change for the better of the Students’ Union. I plan do this by implement-ing the following; Increase awareness, availability and accessibil-ity of student services- Centralise services such as the Advice and Representation centre, health centre, and IT support.- Increase awareness of available services with effective advertising and an essential student guide. Invest in your future- Provide Cardiff alumni with further support upon graduation, to ensure advice is always available when you need it. Fees for International Students- International students are often are helpless to rising tuition fees without warning. A support system needs to be implemented for students affected by this, with the ultimate aim of allevi-ating these changes.

THOMAS THE TANK: CHOO-

CHOO- CHOOSE HIM!

ROLLY 'PARTON' ROLLINSON

I've been involved with the SU in several ca-pacities during my time in Cardiff and I truly believe it can be even better with myself as Stu-dent President.

Rwyf wedi bod yn ymwneud ag Undeb y My-fyrwyr mewn sawl rhinwedd yn ystod fy amser yng Nghaerdydd ac rwyf wir yn credu y gall fodhydynoedynwelloscaffyetholynLly-wydd y Myfyrwyr.

I am a member of the AU, have sat on the com-mittees of the Politics Society and Act One and sit on the Union Forum of the Ministry of Change.

I want to focus on.... MAKINGTHESUMOREACCESSIBLE:* Increased promotion for clubs and societies, including separate fairs aimed at international students* More communication between the union and its students regarding events, opportunities and activities MAKINGYOUMOREEMPLOYABLE:* Providing workshops and help sessions which highlight skills and experience employers are looking for* Placing emphasis on union involvement and other CV Bolstering opportunities whilst in-creasing student involvement in the running of the SU. IMPROVING PARTICIPATION AND EFFI-CIENCY OF STUDENT DEMOCRACY;* SU is run by students, for students, and im-proving election awareness through greater union-led promotion is crucial* Incentivise voting to highlight how important it really is* Create student-led overview of the sabbati-cal structure, to ensure you are happy with the positions you are voting for A vote for me is a vote for you!

ALED CROW

I have enjoyed every second of being a student

at Cardiff, and I want to ensure that YOU have

the best academic experience possible.

Rwyf wedi mwynhau pob eiliad fel myfyriwr

Israddedig yng Nghaerdydd, ac rwyf am si-

crhau eich bod CHITHAU'N cael y profiadgorau posibl.

What do I stand for?

C – Communication

Academic Reps – Further develop the rep. sys-

tem, equipping them with the tools they need.

Improved Feedback – Establish systems for re-

liable and consistent feedback on your work.

Postgraduates and International Students – I

think it's important to recognise the concerns

and opinions of these students, ensuring their

voices are heard.

R – Resources

Learning Central – Ensure that all schools use

learning central to its full potential, meaning

you can access the resources you need on de-

mand.

Libraries – Lobby the University to increase

and improve library resources and extend the

library opening hours.

O – Opportunities

Extra-Curricular – Greater advertisement for

these opportunities, and greater recognition to

those that get involved.

Placements – Ensure placement students get a

high level of support before, during and after

their placements.

W – Work

Your Career – Working with all services that

develop your employability skills to ensure you

have the edge when competing for jobs.

I aim to provide the level of representation

YOU deserve, tackling the issues YOU face,

and engaging with YOU, through operating an

open door policy.

CROW KNOWS YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL!

ABBI SANDERS

I have been passionate about student academic

experience from day dot and I will aim to whip

your education into shape by toning up the aca-

demic rep system, facilities and employability

ofCardiff’sstudents!Sosaygood-byetounfiteducation, and hello to Ab Fab!

Rwyf wedi bod yn frwd dros addysg myfyrwyr

ers y cychwyn cyntaf a'm nod fydd sicrhau bod

eich addysg yn cyrraedd y safon drwy wella'r

systemcynrychiolaethacademaidd,cyfleuster-au a chyflogadwyedd myfyrwyr Caerdydd!Felly trowch eich cefn ar addysg ddi-nod, a

manteisiwcharaddysgo'rraddflaenaf.

What am I fussed about?

Academic Rep system: Do you know who your

rep is? What they can do for you? Why not?! I

want to increase awareness of reps, and prop-

erly reward them for their hard work.

Employability: You pay a lot for your degree

and value for money is really important. I’ll

lobby for more CV/job support and course re-

lated employability help.

Facilities: It’s great that libraries are open later

during exam times but it’s not enough! We need

longer opening hours and better provisions all

year round.

WhyamIqualified?

I’ve been an Academic rep for 3 years and

Chair of Philosophy SSP, plus I’m currently an

Education Executive and President of a course

based society (Philosophy) – what more could

you want!

Vote Ab Fab and let me prove that I’ve got the

ABility to change your education experience!

AB FAB - SHE'S GOT THE ABILITY!

OLLIE WANNELL (WHERE'S OLLIE).

The University works best when students and

staff are equals; the SU works best when stu-

dentsareatthecentre;and,anEducationOffi-cer works best when they are passionate, expe-

rienced, but most of all, engaged. So, help me

build a Union that is not student focused, but

student led.

Mae'r Brifysgol yn gweithio orau pan gaiff my-

fyrwyr a staff eu trin yn gyfartal; mae Undeb

y Myfyrwyr yn gweithio orau pan fydd myfyr-

wyr wrth wraidd y cyfan; ac, mae'r Swyddog

Addysg yn gweithio orau pan fydd yn frwdfry-

dig, yn brofiadol, ond yn bennaf oll, yn rhanweithredol o'r Undeb. Felly, beth am fy helpu

i greu Undeb nad yw'n canolbwyntio ar fyfyr-

wyr, ond a arweinir gan fyfyrwyr.

Being an academic rep for the last 3 years and

Chairing the University Forum has taught me

so much about the issues concerning Cardiff

students right now and how best to alleviate

them. This gives me a good footing to step into

theEducationOfficerrolebringingmyexperi-ence, dedication and passion for improving stu-

dent satisfaction forward.

At School level, I will:

Guarantee Student/Staff Panels greater support

from the Union;

Name-and-shame under performing lecturers

and tutors;

Improve assessment feedback.

At University level, I will:

Fight for better library funding to remove the

relianceonfines;

Encourage communication between sister

schools for integrated courses;

Advocate complete financial, directional andstrategic transparency.

At the Union, I will:

Oppose the continued freeze to the block

grant;

Ensure support for students abroad and on

placement;

Get course based societies more involved in

student representation.

GIVING STUDENTS NOT ONLY A SEAT AT THE TABLE, BUT A

VOICE AS WELL.

LAURA BROWNE

Vote Browne for a revamped; restructured and reengineered AU focusing on your needs, what-ever your level. With equal opportunities at the heart of our ambition - Laura is the right choice for you, for Cardiff and the AU.

Pleidleisiwch Browne os hoffech weld yr Un-deb Athletau yn cael ei hailwampio, ei hail-strwythuro a'i hailgynllunio ac yn canolbwyn-tio ar eich anghenion chi, ni waeth beth fo'ch lefel. Gyda chyfle cyfartal wrth wraidd yrhyn a wnawn - Laura yw'r dewis cywir i chi, i Gaerdydd, ac i'r Undeb Athletau.

Right person…As Club Captain of Cardiff Net-ball, I’ve got experience of the problems that sports clubs’ face and more importantly, the solutions!

Right time… With the BUCS Medic restruc-ture approaching, I will utilise the knowledge already gained to ensure that the process is ef-ficiently implemented, responsibly managedand proactively nurtured – whilst committing to sustaining the Medic sporting identity. And with the new VC of Cardiff putting sport high on his agenda, now is the time to lobby for more funding and better facilities and there’s no better person for the job!

Right reasons... Encouraging equal opportu-nities by embodying a ‘Progress & Prosper’ framework for our individual and team develop-ment across all levels via an internal coaching system. I aim to improve relationships and in-ter-club rapport by actively encouraging ‘Team Cardiff’ and ‘SportSwap’ events. I believe IMG is important to the student experience; I want to acknowledge this by lobbying for more funding and regular meetings to address and solve any problems.

DON'T FROWN! VOTE BROWNE! THE RIGHT PER-

SON, AT THE RIGHT TIME, FOR THE

RIGHT REASONS.

ALEX 'CONTROVERSIAL' CRABBE

I’m running for this position because I feel that I can bring a fresh perspective to the role, in so doing not only representing the interests of those already involved in both small and large clubs, but also in attempting to promote sport to those less involved.

Rwy'n sefyll ar gyfer y rôl hon oherwydd rwy'n teimlo y gallaf ddod â rhywbeth newydd i'r rôl, ac wrth wneud hynny gynrychioli buddiannau'r rheini sydd eisoes yn rhan o glybiau bach a mawr, yn ogystal â cheisio hyrwyddo chwarae-on ymhlith y rheini sy'n ymddiddori i raddau llai.

Participation- Encouragement of participation (62.1% of people who answered the student survey did not join a sport club).- This can be done via a ‘try it out’ scheme dur-ing freshers’ week.

Publicity- Increase in the use of ‘Undod’, a sports-dedi-cated magazine which will have been released only twice this academic year.IMG- Campaigning for funds with which to bring backIMGrugbyteamsasanofficialpartoftheAthletic Union.

Events- Making the Cardiff University fun-run a bigger, more publicised event – potentially to become the Cardiff University mini/half mara-thon.Funding- Continuance of the tiered system of funding for sports clubs as introduced by the previous AUpresident, with afinancial reward for thebest-run club of the yearIf you want a representative who values all sports clubs, and wants increased participation in sport, vote for the Controversial Crabbe. For-wards, not sideways!

Fel Llywydd, rwyf am sicrhau bod chwaraeon yn cael yr effaith honno ar bawb a byddaf yn cefnogi pob clwb, boed yn rhai elit, hamdden neu gymdeithasol!

Fresh Facilities

Build upon the Invest in Sport campaign and lobby for improvements for both indoor and outdoor sports.

Fresh Ideas

Improve communication, engagement and par-ticipation between sports and the student-body with CUTV coverage. Uploading and sharing on the University websites and through social media

By making an online minibus booking system it will be easier for clubs to book their transport and will lead to less confusion.

Fresh Change

Improving Team Cardiff Brand. Ordering and distribution problems have led to a 13 week waiting list for kit.Aim to work with the kit supplier and ensure that you won’t have to wait such a long time before getting your kit

Fresh IMG

More needs to be done for IMG sport. By put-ting IMG completely in the hands of the AU I can work to ensure that there are proper refs, pitches, etc.

FRESH PRINCE OF THE AU

LOZZ LIGHTYEAR

The AU has achieved some massive successes recently; using these triumphs I will take your AU forward into a new phase of high quality, inclusive sport for all, supporting both competi-tive and recreational sports-people.

Mae'r Undeb Athletau wedi dathlu llwyddiant ysgubol yn ddiweddar, a byddaf yn manteisio ar y llwyddiant hwn i symud yr Undeb yn ei blaen, gan gynnig chwaraeon cynhwysol o an-sawdd uchel i bawb a chefnogi pob unigolyn p'un a yw'n cymryd rhan mewn chwaraeon cys-tadleuol neu hamdden.

My policies include:

More space/ time for sport. Clubs are growing, which means they need more space and time to do their activities. I will renegotiate AU club allocations, to ensure university facilities can accommodate membership growth.

Inclusive sport. All clubs should be accessible for everyone that wants to participate in sports; be they an occasional climber or an elite rug-by player. I will encourage clubs to work on developing a recreational option for potential members, meaning more sport for all.

Reward well managed clubs. By incentivising efficient management, members will receivea better service, and better opportunities. This should mean more time spent doing qual-ity sport, and less time dealing with problems caused by poor management.

Keep healthcare sport alive. Healthcare sports in BUCS is going to change; I aim to make this transition as transparent and smooth as it can be so that we can preserve our healthcare sports, as best as possible.

Please vote and make a difference

JONATHAN MORSE

Cardiff has some of the most diverse and in-teresting societies in the country. We now need to modernise and take them to the next level. A vote for me is a vote for bigger and better societies, a successful summer ball and more focus on charities. Vote Morse: 100% Beef 0% Horse.Mae Caerdydd yn gartref i rai o gymdeithasau mwyaf amrywiol a diddorol y wlad. Mae angen i ni nawr eu moderneiddio a'u tywys i'r lefel nesaf. Bydd pleidlais drosof i yn sicrhau cym-deithasau mwy a gwell, dawns haf lwyddian-nus a mwy o ffocws ar elusennau. Pleidleisiwch Morse: 100% Cig Eidion 0% Cig Ceffyl. · Societies loyalty cards. Each society (which includes all sports clubs) would have individu-al cards for their members. Any money spent in the union would have a percentage returned to the persons society.

· Societies bar tabs. Simply use your card when you buy drinks, and a percentage of what is spent will be placed in your societies 'bar tab fund', to be used in a monthly 'Mega-lash'.

· Allow societies to earn commission off ticket sales for union events. Increasing revenue for societies, and attendance for union events, making for top nights.

· Another bar so less queuing!

· Having worked closely with BeachBreak, I would bring a unique experience to the organi-sation of the summer ball. This includes letting every student vote for acts!

· Host a societies sports day. An all university sports day would be like a mini varsity, and we all love varsity!

Pleidleisiwch drosof i. Byddai'n goron ar fy ni-wrnod. Here are some of my plans:

1) A Bigger Fresher’s Fayre! I want societies to be overrun with new members. I will make this happen with a massive advertising push, especially targeting freshers, hooking them into societies right off the bat.

2) Fully fund travel expenses! Societies often need to send their members long distances. Currently, we only offer 1/3 of travel costs yet weunderspendeveryyear.Iwillfixthis.

3) Get companies supporting Societies. Med Soc., Debating and Law have great sponsorship deals and I think this should be more common! What else?Aboveall,Iwillfighttoincreasesocietyfund-

GR-RHYS LIGHTENING

A huge drive to ask students what they like and don’t like about media, in order to reach out to those who don’t use Stu-dent Media

Ymgyrch enfawr i ofyn i fyfyrwyr beth yw eu hoff bethau a'u cas bethau am y cyfryn-gau, er mwyn cyrraedd y rheini nad ydynt yn defnyddio Cyfryngau Myfyrwyr

- A dedicated section for the elected offi -cers to communicate to students, and vice versa

- A drive to get more contributions from different demographics, such as more foreign student contributors to provide a wider spectrum of opinions and different culturally infl uenced view points

- Develop a letters section to increase communication between readers and edi-tors/contributors. To include compulsory feedback from editor involved

- More stories followed by student opin-ion for and against and / or vox pops

- Initiatives to keep contributor numbers high throughout the year e.g. ‘article of the week’ competition

- A “Know Your…” feature for students to learn more about their city and South Wales, e.g. history, prominent people

- Should students desire, endeavor to: to broadcast Xpress in the Taf, play CUTV on screens around the SU, and develop Gair Rhydd app - budget allowing.

- More features on the lives of Cardiff stu-dents – capitalise on the diverse range of students and their different stories

FOR AN ELECTRIFYING

STUDENT MEDIA

THOMAS EDEN

Student Media is an incredible part of the University, but it must represent you - the students.

As news editor of gair rhydd, I am proud of what I’ve achieved this year. I’ll contin-ue holding the Union to account in what they do and spend your money on. But there is much room for improvement. Mae Cyfryngau'r Myfyrwyr yn ran an-hygoel o'r Brifysgol, ond mae'n rhai eich cynrychioli chi fel myfyrwyr. Fel golygy-dd newyddion i gair rhydd, rydw i'n falth o beth yr ydwyf i wedi gyfl awni blwyddyn yma. Rydw i'n gaddo i barhau i sicrhau for yr Undeb yn gyfrifol yn y fford maent yn gwario eich arian. Mae cymaint o le i wella'.

Few people know that there’s a television channel in Student Media. Even less have seen anything it produces. This highlights the problems we face and what needs change. Student Media must work closer to students, societies and sports teams.

and industry professionals Great motivation and experience, and su-perb for career prospects

rect revenue for student media Making media cost less for the Union

This is my invitation; please help me to build a better Student Media that will benefi t you.

YOU BETTER ADAM AND EVE IT

EDWARD LECORGNE

Student Media constantly creates fantas-tic, innovative content that isn’t getting to you. How do we change this? Listen to you; understand what you want and engage with you. Drive exposure and promotions – make Student Media the fi rst port of call for everything Cardiff and beyond!

Mae Cyfryngau Myfyrwyr yn gyson creu cynnwys gwych ac arloesol nad yw'n eich cyrraedd chi. Sut mae newid hyn? Gwran-do arnoch chi; deall beth rydych am ei gael ac ymgysylltu â chi. Codi ymwybyddiaeth a hyrwyddo - sicrhau mai Cyfryngau My-fyrwyr yw'r pwynt cyswllt cyntaf ar gyfer popeth yng Nghaerdydd a thu hwnt!

I’m Deputy Station Manager for Xpress, and I’m utterly committed to Media, even up to running Xpress from my bedroom for 3 weeks! I also support the rest of Me-dia, helping wherever I can. What I want to achieve:1. Exposure – We have incredible content, that doesn’t get the audience it deserves. I want Xpress and CUTV available in the union and across campus, and website links on posters.

2. Xpress is hindered by equipment and exposure – We need to build reputation, and make sure we have the equipment we need to facilitate our great content.

3. CUTV needs funding and creativity. Al-lowing for innovation will mean more stu-dent involvement, which is what CUTV needs, and funding will make these proj-ects happen.

4. Gair Rhydd needs to be allowed to push for investigative journalism, to get the stories students care about.

5. Quench needs trails for the next fort-night’s issue to increase anticipation.

ED LECORGNE ON THE COB -

STUDENT MEDIA ISN'T A SIDE DISH

JACK THE RIPPER

Gair Rhydd is the Union’s only regular communication with average students. I will use it effectively, supporting sports and societies with greater advertis-ing space. I will enhance scrutiny of the University and ensure the £100,000,000 spending spree benefi ts students immedi-ately, such as by subsidising activities that boost employability.

Gair Rhydd yw unig gyfrwng cyfathrebu rheolaidd yr Undeb â myfyrwyr cyffredin. Byddaf yn ei ddefnyddio'n effeithiol, gan gefnogi chwaraeon a chymdeithasau drwy gynnig mwy o le hysbysebu iddynt. Byddaf yn gwella dulliau craffu yn y Brifysgol ac yn sicrhau y caiff myfyrwyr fudd o'i gwar-iant £100,000,000 yn syth, er enghraifft drwy sybsideiddio gweithgareddau sy'n gwella cyfl ogadwyedd.

SOCIETIES and SPORTSAs a committee member for several soci-eties, I know how crucial student media can be in advertising. That’s why I will DOUBLE the size of the societies section and protect the sports section.

£100,000,000 SCRUTINYStudent Media is the strongest voice we have during this crucial time. I will util-ise our news team to investigate and ap-ply more pressure, ensuring the spending spree is in the interests of all current stu-dents.

ENGAGEMENTWe’ve seen Solus club nights close, refer-endums with less than 1% turnout. This is a disgrace. Students live on their phones, not in the Union. I will dedicate more re-sources to launching a phone app to im-prove engagement.

EXPERIENCEGair Rhydd Science editor and 4-year contributor. Part Time Elected Offi cer. Committee member of 5 societies. Stu-dent Rep. I will combine my experiences to provide a well-rounded media and mar-keting team. Please vote when next online!

Studying abroad is interesting and also chal-

lenging. My aim is to keep things simple, and

get things done for you, to make our students’

union a more helpful place for all international

students.

Mae astudio dramor yn ddiddorol ac yn heriol

hefyd. Fy nod yw cadw pethau'n syml, a sicrhau

bod pethau'n cael eu gwneud ar eich rhan, fel

bod undeb y myfyrwyr yn cynnig mwy o help i

fyfyrwyr rhyngwladol.

Myfirstjobistoensurethatyouknowwhat’s

going on, and what services are provided for

you in the union.

Extracurricular activities. Make a full use of

your time abroad! Alongside your academic

studies, the students’ union provides things

likesocietiestojoin,paid/voluntaryjoboppor-

tunities, skill development, etc. All events are

time sensitive, therefore other than university

e-mails, I will also use social media to pass on

information and make sure you don’t miss out

anything.

As a cultural studies student, learning about dif-

ferent cultures fascinates me, inspires me.

Culture events. I will work closely with all in-

ternational societies to create culture events,

events that show you the traditions and beliefs

of a nation, these events will act as platforms

for all students to exchange thoughts and learn

from each other.

Running for the international students’officer

will allow me to represent and serve all inter-

national students, I can act as a strong voice in

the union because what concerns you, concerns

me too.

LEARN SOME-THING, MAKE SOME

FRIENDS AND BE HAPPY :D

EVA MITGAARD

My name is Eva Midtgaard, and I wish to be-

comeyournextinternationalstudentsofficer.

I’m a Norwegian math’s student at Cardiff Uni-

versity. As an international student I know what

I expect from my union. I also know that we, as

a group of international students, have a wide

diversity of cultures, languages and personali-

ties to offer this community.

Rwy'n fyfyriwr mathemateg o Norwy ym

Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Fel myfyriwr rhyngwl-

adol, rwy'n gwybod beth rwyf yn ei ddisgwyl

gan fy undeb. Rwy'n gwybod hefyd fod gen-

nym ni, fel grwp o fyfyrwyr rhyngwladol, ystod

eang o ddiwylliannau, ieithoedd a rhinweddau

personol i'w cynnig i'r gymuned hon.

As an International officer Iwould focusmy

work on how the union can offer its interna-

tional students the best support and opportu-

nities possible, as well as breaking the barrier

between the international, EU and home stu-

dents. Improving the support system around all

international students aswell as the relationship

between international and home students.

I would do this by:

Making it easier to

Communicate an opinion about what you would

like the union to focus on and do.

Seek assistance if you are having any problems

or need some support while settling into the

community.

Have more events appealing to both home and

international students.

Put focus on the financial issues, byworking

for good sponsorship opportunities as well as

a good security network if any international

studentweretofindthemselvesinafinancial-

emergency.

CODI LLAIS DROS EIN HIAITH!

Although Cardiff is the our Capital, Cardiff

University and the Students’ Union in partic-

ular still feel pretty ‘English’. That can make

many of us us feel uncomfortable throughout

our University experience.

Despite all of the work done by other indi-

viduals to improve the provisions for Welsh

students in Cardiff, there is no doubt that that

provision continues to be nothing more than a

token gesture.

AstheUnion’sWelshStudentsOfficer,Iwill:

Buildontheworkofpreviousofficerstorepre-

sent Welsh students in Cardiff;

Work to ensure equality for Welsh and English

in the University and the Union;

Endeavour to make it easier to submit work and

sit exams through the medium of Welsh.

I’m in my second year of studying Welsh and

Politics, so I’m aware of the challenges facing

our language. Also, through my work with Plaid

Cymru, I have vast experience of campaigning

and representing people.

Although we sometimes have to jump through

hoops to get fairness for our language in Car-

diff, I amconfident that Iwill be effective in

standing up for you and our language within

Food

Many people don’t realise how much climate

change affects food prices and that by being

greener you can stop these from rising more.

I will campaign for more water-bottle filling

stations in Union and University buildings,

decreasing carbon footprint and saving you

money!

Sustainability and Recycling

More trees/plants on uni grounds including

halls of residences, reducing our overall carbon

output and make campus look nicer!

A good idea would be greater incentives for

students to save energy, such as some of the

money saved to be given to the students.

Bikes

To eliminate thefts, I will campaign for greater

monitoring of bike racks/more being available

within uni grounds.

I will campaign for availability of cheap rental

bikes to students and for subsidies of bike locks,

promoting green travel and preventing thefts.

particularly gained from my role as an Inter-

at reducing pollution namely from cars. I have

experienced some success in recruiting school
