• Manga まんが are more like a book and have more complex storylines than Western comics.

• Anime あにめ are usually まんが brought to life as an animation

• Common themes are friendship, honesty, love, history, finance, politics etc.

• Characters are normal people who end up in unusual situations or have a ‘secret other life’.

• Onomatopoeia かきもじ (ie ring ring, woof woof, crash) are often used in manga.

• Giseigo ぎせいご imitates a sound ie. bang ガチャン

• Gitaigo ぎたいご imitates an actionie. knock knock トントン
