Welcome from MandyMANDY ELLEN, PRINCIPAL (FDITA RSA)

Welcomes you to the Mandy Ellen Performing Arts College, here we aim to provide every performer with the knowledge, training and experience ready for a career in the performing arts industry. We believe in the mantra, ‘Dance is Fun’ and with that offer a safe, fun learning environment where students can grow as people and performers.

Good Luck, Mandy

Mandy Ellen is a member of the International Dance Teachers Association, where she holds fellowship qualifications. She is the Chief Examiner for the British Dance Arts Federation.

From her first dance steps at the age of 3, dance and musical theatre has always been a big part of Mandy’slife. She has danced and studied in all genres of musical theatre and dance. Her love and enthusiam has seen her work professionally, however her true passion lied in teaching.

Mandy set about establishing her very own dance school, however realised there was the need to target all students. She felt that performing was fast becoming out of reach to many talented students, due to the cost and location.

In 2005, Mandy moved her dance school to its Earl StreetStudios and in that same year launched the Mandy EllenPerforming Arts College, for students wishing to take their

performing to a professional level, without the need to travel to London. Mandy now celebrates over 20 yearsteaching students, of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

As Principal, Mandy prides herself on being a very approachable, listening and offering support where she can. It is her belief, ‘learning can be fun’ that maintains the very best standard of teaching and enjoyment for bothher students and staff. With her knowledge of the world of performing arts, Mandy is also a realist and acknowledgesthat every student will need a resource to support themselves; therefore ensuring all her students strive towards achievement of their teaching associates/diploma.

Mandy is Co Director of Class Act Entertainment Agency,(representing performing arts talent in the South East). In 2012, she opened the Mandy Ellen Kids Agency and within the first months, had her first client starring in the West End production of ‘Singing in the Rain’.

developing you as a performer

Mandy Ellen is the Founder and the Principal of Mandy Ellen Performing Arts. She is proactive and continues to have avery hands on approach and is delighted to be a part of the teaching faculty at the studios.

Mandy is proud to be a true ‘Kentish Maid’ being born and bred in Maidstone itself, so it was a dream come true for her to then have opened her very own studios in her home town.

Whilst dancing professionally in her younger years, Mandy found her true passion lay within teaching. Like many dance schools, the Mandy Ellen School of Dance started in a church hall in 1997. However it was here that Mandy’s dream started, to one day have her very own performing arts studios.Over the next couple of years Mandy worked hard on developing, nurturing and encouraging every student that attended her school. Her belief that ‘Dance is Fun’ helped her grow the school big enough to then move into her very own premises.

Her commitment soon paid off when she opened ‘The Mandy Ellen Performing Arts Studios’ in January 2005 and in the very same year the College was founded. Since then there has been no looking back and over years she has watched her students graduate and gain professional work in pantomimes, cruise ships, cabaret clubs, teachingand much more. She plays a prominent part at Move It by teaching workshops and having a trade stand at the convention. Her students also take to the main stage and perform stunning routines for the audience.

Mandy’s sheer determination and passion for the college has put her in good stead and she is proudly in application for membership status of the Council for Dance Education and Training, She has become extensively recognised by professionals throughout the industry and continues to add to the experiences of the Mandy Ellen Performing Arts students, enabling them to be part of the professional industry.

The School’s/Mandy‘s accolades:Reaching the live semi finals of “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2008 with the “Mandy Ellen Dancers” and in 2009 with the “Hot Honeyz”. She proudly watched on as Simon Cowell gave he much praise for choreography “Congratulations Mandy Ellen because you did a terrific job. The choreography very tidy absolutely fantastic” She continues to promote the “Hot Honeyz” and observes their success with the numerous performance they’re offered. She has also seen dancers reach the judges round on “Got To Dance” in 2010 with ‘Krisma’, in 2011 with ‘Jig 4.5’ and in 2012 with ‘Krisma’ and 2013 with ‘Ham, PYT and Junior Performers’ where she has made it her personal goal to persevere until her group reaches the live shows.

Mel Clarke, Graduated 2012"I can't understand where these past three years have gone; I started out in my first year as a fan of musical theatre and have now left as a professional! No where else could have offered me the amount of support and encouragement that Mandy and her team has given me. Being only a few of us in our year group has meant that I have received the attention and technique needed to be best performer I can. Billy Warren, Graduated 2012Training at Mandy Ellen Performing Arts gave me the confidence and push I needed to take a step into the big wide world of performing arts. Mandy and her team devoted their time and energy to helping me become as much of a triple threat in the industry as I possibly could. It was challenging and lots of hard work but the teachers provided me with support, drive and discipline at all times without losing their warm, friendly yet professional attitudes.Without the help of Mandy and her team I would not be following my dream of performing now so I am incredibly grateful and highly recommend the college to anyone considering this career.

Harry Short, Graduated 2012Since leaving college I have performed with Stairway Theatre, in their production of Spring Awakening. I have also done a Las Vegas Christmas Cabaret and Dick Whittington pantomime.

Starting college as a non trained dancer I had constant support from teachers and Mandy to get me from learning the very basics to becoming a professional performer. Help was always given, from after college classes to private lessons in free periods. Mandy was always there, to help me secure pantomimes and plays whilst in training. She also pointed me in the right direction to secure a part time job, so I fund the course. Being a small college pushed everyone to their very best, as you recieved more one to one tuition.

Not only do we offer the fundamentals for an all-round performer and teacher, but ME students are given the opportunity to travel and perform abroad! Undertaking workshops with some of the most professional names in the industry, giving them a wealth of experience. The tours are at an additional cost to the student but we are fortunate to be able to offer them at competitive rates. Below is a summary of some of the tours our students have experienced:

New York, The Broadway ExperienceStudents had an incredible time experiencing the top sights in New York, as well as seeing Broadway Shows, not forgetting free time to visit Macy’s and Bloomingdales. The students were lucky enough to have workshops from Broadway casting directors and the performers of the shows, such as the original “Dynamite” from ‘Hairspray’, Dance Captain from ‘Wicked’and performers from ‘Moving Out’. This tour is one of a kind with not only having an exciting itinerary to sight see, but the experience and the contact that can be made, creating a truly unforgettable trip!

Lake Garda, Italy, Dance TourOutstanding workshops in the centre of Lake Garda, incorporating a variety of dance styles. The students had a fantastic time visiting the wonders of Italy, including Lake Garda itself, Venice and its beautiful hand crafted stalls, Juliet’s Balcony and the historical ‘Amphi Theatre’

Branson, USA, Performance TourBranson isn’t a well known destination but little do people know that it is one of the leading places for the ‘arts’ alongside Westend and Broadway. The students not only had the opportunity to meet professionals and get handy tips from Performers in Branson such as a Dancer from ‘Spirit Productions’, a talented group of a sister and her brothers known asthe ‘Haygoods’, but actually perform in several theatres also! Our students had the opportunity to perform a 20 minute setprio to a phenomenal show; on the Branson Showboat, at The Haygoods, Six, Dixie Stampede and Legends in Concert. Branson is set in the heart of Missouri and is breathtaking in many ways, from the food, the culture and history of the area, the intriguing attractions and most of the sheer variety of entertainment which is by far outstanding. To perform in these reputable theatres in front of a full audience was a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Born in Liverpool, Anne Walker’s career began when she started her own dance school at the age of just 17.

Frustrated by a lack of quality affordable dancewear, Anne started making leotards for her students and was soon approached to make them for other schools too. As the demands for the leotards grew Anne bought an industrial sewing machine with a £50 loan from her mother and focused her energy on making the business a success.

The business relocated to Devon where it continued to expand and flourish. As the reputation of the business grew, IDS began attracting some of the most prestigious companies in the Danceworld to provide uniform for them, including The Royal Ballet School Outreach Programme,American Ballet Theatre Training Programme, and many other associations and schools around the world.

DS has won many awards and in 2010, in recognition for her contribution to business, Anne was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
