MitsiDancing School and Dance of Asian America are the only Chinese Dance School and Company to have our own city-wide productions at MillerOutdoor Theatre twice a year. Teacher Description

This class is for the beginner student. The course is a combination Ballet and Chinese dance class and will be taught entirely in ChineseMandarin Language. 30 minutes of the course will include ballet, which covers the following but will progress at a constantly challenging and funlevel for the kids: Basic feet and arm positions, Across the floor traveling steps, Barre work and center (Plie, tendu, degage, rond de jambe,battement, sautes, etc.), Stretch for flexibility. Chinese has 56 ethnic groups containing different cultures, traditions and history. We will teach adance from a different ethnic group yearly so the children can take a journey to China through their dancing. They will learn of the culture, traditionsand history embedded in the dance and its movements and will master the skills in each dance. The dance can be performed at the School'sChinese New year festival or other events. They may also join Mitsi Dancing School recital which is coming up on our 33rd anniversary next year.The show is an entirely professional production with Chinese dance, modern/contemporary dance, Lyrical dance and Jazz dance in the first half ofthe show and a full ballet (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, etc.) in the second half. More info on the Mitsi Dancing Schoolrecital will be given to students in class. Our unique curriculum is just as entertaining as it is educational. Cultural Presentation is one of the free response questions in the AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam. The test taker will have 4 minutes toprepare a 2 minutee cultural presentation on a specific topic. It is critcal to expand student's knowledge of Chinese Culture so that they will be able todescribe and explain significance of a Chinese Cultural Practice or Product. This class aims to help students gain better understaning andappreciation of Chinese History and Culture. Topics include Chinese History, architecture, value religion, language, literature, food, etiquette,customs, music, and arts.

In this class, students will develop the ability to tell a logical and complete story with aclear progression of ideas. Students will also practice organizing their thoughts within the alloted time to produce a coherent story.

In addition, 2-4 students from this team demonstrating serious interest in the class will be selected asdelegates for a Trip to China that is partially funded and sponsored by the Chinese Government. NOTE: The 2-4 outstanding students who areselected to participate in the OAEC 2015 Chinese Cultural delegation trip will travel to China in Summer 2016 (dates to be announed in the Spring.).Highlights include school visits, cultural activities and educational workshops.
