By Kathleen Murphy Heritage Media Hometown skater Kendra Moyle has a starring role in a Disney on Ice production that will make its way to the Palace of Auburn Hills March 14-17. Moyle, 22, stars as Rapunzel in “Disney on Ice Presents Dare to Dream” She’s been on the road for about 18 months, starting on the East Coast in 2011 when the show opened. “It’s the best job,” she said. “It’s a once in a life- time opportunity.” The show has three stories, starting with a princess and a frog. “It’s one big princess party,” Moyle said. After the princess and frog, the show transi- tions to Cinderella and her step-family. There is a carriage ride and a ball. The closing segment features Rapunzel and Flynn. “It’s really action- packed and lot of fun,” she said. “Personally, it’s my favorite part of the show.” Moyle got the job after a tough audition process. “You send in videos to audition. It’s a pretty lengthy process. The same goes for organizing an event of this size for Manchester. Anita Herman, co-chairper- son of the Manchester Kiwanis Club’s Crazy Cash Night said it’s taken more than 80 volunteers ranging from community mem- bers to students to business own- ers to organize the event. “It is an exciting, safe high- energy experience,” she said. “It involves a lot of members of the community.” The club’s annual fundraiser will take place at 6 p.m. March 2 in the former American Legion Hall at 203 Adrian St. Doors open at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The first ball will be drawn at 8 p.m. The first number drawn wins $250 and the last wins the grand prize of $5,000. This year’s event is close to selling out. Herman estimated as of Feb. 20 there were 10 tickets left. “If they want to purchase a ticket, it should be a priority,” she said. This year’s prizes include three flatscreen televisions, two laptops and four iPads. In addition to the above mer- chandise, those who come can take part in the silent auction where they’ll have the chance to win prizes such as a rototiller and a leafblower. They will also have drawings for prizes donated by community members and local businesses as well as a second-chance table with smaller prizes. In addition, a 50/25/25 raffle will take place throughout the night. The 151-acre property is located in Lima Township, with a newly-constructed parking area and access point on Dancer Road, just north of Trinkle Road. Trails and a viewing platform are open now, and interpretive signs are planned. An official open- ing will be held later this year. The area has been described in ornithology guides, and long known to local bird watchers, as it is home to many uncommon avian species. “It is one of the few places in the county that you can reliably get a moorhen, most years,” said Dan Sparks-Jackson, who recently led an Audubon Society field trip to the preserve. In the winter, it is often visited by Lapland long- spurs and snow buntings. 80-plus volunteers organize Crazy Cash Night for March 2

They say it takes a village to raise a child. The same goes for organizing an event of this size for Manchester.

Anita Herman, co-chairper-son of the Manchester Kiwanis Club’s Crazy Cash Night said it’s taken more than 80 volunteers ranging from community mem-bers to students to business own-ers to organize the event.
