MAKING MANCHESTER THE CHRISTMAS CAPITAL

Manchester’s award-winning Christmas Markets return this winter to celebrate 15 magical years!

Every year since the first market in November 1999, the city centre has been transformed by the bustle, excitement and pazazz of the Christmas Markets, and it’s grown to be one of the largest events of its kind in the UK.

Soak up the atmosphere and follow the market trail as it winds through the city centre, passing through some of Manchester’s most picturesque streets and squares with a mind-boggling collection of over 300 stalls.

What you’ll find

More than 300 beautifully festooned stalls and chalets will tempt you with gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothes and toys. European and local producers offer everything from fine amber jewellery, handcrafted leather bags and top-quality bonsai trees, to handmade Belgian kitchenware, framed photo prints and French soaps.

And when planning your visit, don’t miss the amazing array of food and drink! Manchester’s Christmas Markets are famous for traditional bratwurst, but you can also treat yourself to Hungarian goulash, Spanish paella or a good old-fashioned hog roast.

Plenty of vegetarian options will be on offer, and for those with a sweet tooth the choices are even more mouthwatering! Think strudels, crêpes, Dutch mini-pancakes, fresh waffles and more, or simply relax with a glühwein, Spanish beer or French-style hot chocolate.

Manchester Christmas Market Shilling

To commemorate their 15th year, Manchester Christmas Markets have minted a special collectible coin – the Christmas Market Shilling.

Each coin is worth two pounds and can be used at participating stalls across all nine market sites in exchange for gifts, food and drink.

The coins can be used in conjunction with regular money, so don’t worry if you don’t have enough shillings for that side of ham!

Participating stalls will be clearly marked, but if you can’t spot the sign, don’t worry – our stallholders will be more than happy to help you. Of course, if you prefer, you can keep your shillings as souvenirs!

*Shillings are available to buy from selected stalls

in bags of £10 (five shillings)

HANDY HINTS AND TIPS

TAKE A LOOK AT OUR TOP TIPS TO GET THE BEST OUT OF THE CHRISTMAS MARKETS.

Relax days

Avoid the hustle and bustle of weekends and visit the Christmas Markets from Monday to Wednesday for a much more relaxing experience.

Wrap up warm

All sites are outdoors, so you’ll need warm clothing. Wearing a few layers is best.

Ditch the heels

Albert Square market site is cobbled, and not the best place for high heels.

Leave the pooch at home if you can

Albert Square has a strict ‘no dogs’ policy (only assistance dogs are permitted) because the enclosed space gets too busy and crowded, and is not a suitable environment for your dog.

You may bring your dog to our other markets, as they’re not fenced areas, but it would probably be better to leave them at home while you visit the Christmas Markets. Please note that dogs are not allowed in any of the bars at any of the market sites.
