What are Manatees?

• Manatees are pretty big creatures.

• They live in Florida, Africa, the Amazon and on the coast of North and South America.

• They eat about 100-150 pounds of food every DAY!

• They can travel up to 45 miles in 1 day.

• They surface about 3-5 minutes.

Manatees are being brought to wildlife refuges because of their slowly disappearing

habitats, pollution, and boat propellers.

How are there homes being destroyed?

• One way is that their homes are being turned in to living space

• The steady death rate of manatees rules over the reproducing rate.

• They also are accidentally stuck in fishing lines.

Many of the waters that the manatees live in are being polluted so they are Having to eat whatever they can find. Above are some manatees feeding on somePower plant wastes.

What are people doing to help?

• People are helping by putting them in shelters

• Also closing of area's just for manatees

• And putting up sighns
