Evaluating a Large Scale Invasive Species Management Program

• 2002 ‐ USFS systematic inventory of non‐native invasive plants • 2006 ‐ Environmental assessment for treating invasive plants• 2007 to Present ‐ USFS treats about 350 acres annually

– For most applications a tank mix of DuPont™ Escort®  XP & Dow AgroSciences™ Milestone® VM is used.

• Study: Analyze presence/absence records between years to evaluate treatment program success.

Study Findings• New populations identified

each year• Relative health of populations

greatly reduced in the years following treatment

• ‘Site visited no observation’ was recorded at 19 to 32 percent of treated populations

Early August 2012Late July 2011

Future Directions• Continue and expand existing programs• Invasive species training for highway,

parks, and land management staff• Landowner stewardship training• Community tool shed• Adapt our herbicide management

approach• Expand our post invasive species control

native planting program• Thank our funders!
