HISTORYSAIL traces its origin to theHindustan Steel Limited(HSL) which was set up on 19 January 1954.The registered office was originally in New Delhi. It moved to Calcutta in July 1956, and ultimately toRanchiin December 1959. InBhilai and Rourkela Steel Plants were completed by the end of December 1961. In Durgapur Steel Plant was completed in January 1962.the total crude steel production capacity of HSL was raised to 3.7 MT in 196869 and subsequently to 4MT in 197273.The company, incorporated on 24 January 1973 with an authorised capital of Rs. 20billion, was made responsible for managing five integrated steel plants at Bhilai, Bokaro, Durgapur, Rourkela and Burnpur.BOARD OF DIRECTOR & COMMITTE

9ACHIEVEMENTS- SAIL bagged Randstad Award for HR Practices & Employer Branding for 2011 under 'Manufacturing Industries' category.SAIL received the maiden Wockhardt Shining Star CSR Award in the Iron & Steel Sector category in 2011. Maharatna SAIL has received the prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award for the year 2011. SAIL - SAIL Signs MoU with IRCON for cooperation in rail infrastructure projects. - Steel Authority of India Ltd has informed BSE that SAIL has signed a 50:50 joint venture agreement with Burn Standard Company Limited (BSCL) at Kolkata for setting up a Wagon Components Manufacturing Facility at the premises of BSCL at Jellingham, Purba Medinipore district, in West Bengal, with a capacity to produce 10,000 bogies and 10,000 couplers per annum.SAIL has been conferred with MoU Excellence Award? for the year 2010-11 for the 9th consecutive year. SAIL has been awarded with the Skoch Award for Financial inclusion under the category of Women Empowerment in recognition of multifold initiatives for inclusive growth.
