The exhibition industry is one of the most important aspects that back up the economic, tourism, cultural and social activities in any city. It is truly a promotional tool of high degree of importance that contributes in creating links between the parties concerned in any field.

Sharjah was able through Expo Centre and major hotels to attract the most international companies involved in the organization of exhibitions and make from the exhibitions a world-class commercial and tourism industry, until most of the exhibitions launched from the fairgrounds of Expo Centre Sharjah became of a regional character and expansion: some of them gained an international character owing to the capacity of participations and the activities they attract from all parts of the world and the businessmen and concerned visitors depending on the nature of the fair; most of them come from the GCC countries.

Thus, the exhibition industry in Sharjah has witnessed unprecedented mutations in the domain of development of this sector and its upgrading to keep pace with the international exhibitions in terms of services provided and rendered, as it uses the latest technologies, state-of-the-art communication tools and world-class information systems, while the internal exhibition halls, the number of which is five at this stage, are characterized by their modern and sophisticated designs, allowing access and exit of exhibited commodities and equipment at ease with the latest advanced technologies.

From the Fairgrounds Expo Centre the following exhibitions are also launched: the Green Middle East Exhibition which is specialized in advanced environmental technology, Sharjah International Book Fair, one of the most important exhibitions in the region; it attracts many visitors and guests, especially from the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC and organized by the Department of Culture and Media, the Gulf Marine Fair for maritime industries specialized in engineering and marine technology and education and entertainment, which focuses on the best educational needs, technology and resources specializing in early childhood education.

Expo Centre Sharjah hosts also the Chinese Commodities Fair, which is the largest Chinese trade show in the Middle East and exhibits a wide range of consumer and industrial products from China, Halal Middle East, which is one of the most important international exhibitions specialized in Halal food industry, Made in UAE, an exhibition that is specialized in UAE industries of high-quality products, and the Sports & Adventure Exhibition specialized in sports and adventures’ products and services.

SultaninauguratestheGovernmentCommunicationForumundertheslogan,“effectivecommunication,unifiedspeech”andemphasizesthattheculturalidentityisthelastbastionthatprotectsman

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah inaugurated on the twenty-fourth of February, 2013 the second edition of the “Forum of Government Communication” organized by Sharjah Media Centre under the slogan “effective communication…unified speech” in presence of His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish Prime Minister, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, His Excellency Kofi Annan former Secretary General of the United Nations, Secretary General Amr Moussa, former Arab League Secretary General, HE Andrew Young former ambassador to the United States in the United Nations.

The Ruler of Sharjah expressed his happiness with the availability of a group of decision-makers who used their consciences in taking decisions, “we watched them and listened to what they said. They made us feel proud of the stances they adopted. I do not want to enumerate those stances, for you were well acquainted with them during the past years, stressing that cultural identity is the last bastion that protects man from an overwhelming chaos that has no limits.

His Highness said, “It has been decides to establish a cultural center for communication and I was honored to be its honorary president. Over two years of research and communication with African institutions in all African countries to find a way of cultural communication, I came out with a conclusion that African countries rely, in their cultures, on the codes of conduct that distinguish groups in these treaties and communication, which is known as Ethnography. When I intensified the communication, I found out that they greatly impact the Western countries than the African countries, as the Western colonialism was well established in those countries, and I was therefore compelled to look into communication with the West to be

able to communicate with the African countries.

Through studying the European or say the Western culture I found that there is another way of culture which depends on innovations, heritage, cultural benefits, books, music, theater and movies. So, I had no tool here in Sharjah to communicate unless I create those elements from the culture of my country. In April 1979 there was a meeting with a group of young people in Africa Hall, whereupon I declared that it was time to put end to the revolution of concrete in the state and replace it with a cultural revolution. I told the youth that I had a plan with which I would surprise everybody, namely Sharjah Cultural Project, which began at that time.

Communication with the West has begun. I bore in mind Gandhi’s theorem, “I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.” We in turn did not take everything that came from the West, but we added the extras we need. As a result of that communication and Sharjah’s cultural development, the UNESCO was in constant communication with us, watching our movement throughout

those years, and subsequently decided to adopt Sharjah as cultural capital of the Arab world in the year 1997 for the third year after Egypt and Tunisia. We were happy of that decision and the partnership and communication with the UNESCO. I think we have managed to establish a part of that communication with the Arab world.

Suddenly we were subdued to painful blows at that period, where the first blow was the September 11, 2001 wrongdoing, which resulted in the clash of civilizations and terrorism go beyond the walls of the United Nations and the international will, manifested in defamation, killings and colonization.

Sharjah had participated in the Metropolitan Museum and in the same place and time where the event was held, Sharjah was available with all of its weight to prove that we never hide or back off, but were present and heard the event-opening speaker hailing Sharjah in the opening speech.

That blow did not last for long, nor will it persist as the offender’s strength faded. We continued our communication with the Western cities, held festivals in every European country and exhibited our tradition with creative folkloric dances. I watched that and was keen to personally participate with them

7

and saw the inhabitants of those countries wear our traditional dress and women out there wearing like our women and dancing with us with their utmost feeling of love and fraternity. Such was our approach, one of the greatest approaches we have realized in the so-called communication.

We brought the culture to a stage I named “the beautiful era”, where we had all kinds of technical support, festivals, theaters, libraries, book fairs and schools from primary to secondary education.

We were very lucky and proud of what we achieved. I met with a group of writers to whom I reminded them of their responsibility toward their homelands and countries, naming that “the committed writer or author” who bears the causes of his nation and people.

While I was talking on the podium, some of France’s post 1914 cultural era relived in my mind such as Trevor’s picture, that Jewish who was wrongly thrown behind bars by (Strasier) the officer who claimed him to have spied for Germany, the act that ignited the intellectuals and writers, the picture I loved to see in my country, any part of my homeland, as that group of intellectuals at the fore from of whom figured Emile Zola with his famous article ‘’I agree with that picture, I was looking into the future”.But the third blow occurred manifested in the creative chaos, which left everyone staggering, where we in the Arab world found ourselves watching distressing cock-fighting prospects in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen and Syria, the rings of which could thanks Allah be anywhere in our quarters, streets and inside our house.

Through your ongoing conference I send to all Arab intellectuals, my colleagues in the mission who wonder while they are perplexed, this message: when someone feels that is menaced, he tends to seek refuge to a place where the invader cannot reach; culture is the best shelter to resort to, because it’s the element enjoying the utmost level of privacy and particularity and is undoubtedly the most well-knit and coherent to man.

Cultural particularities cannot fade

forever as they resort to living in a state of hibernation like plants in the depth of unconscious, and wait until the environment allows their resurrection once again. A cultural value cannot therefore be buried indefinitely.

His Highness concluded his speech saying, “We should confront this chaotic invasion, which if let to prevail, will have consequences and negative impacts dangerous than the colonial era. The Cultural Identity is the protective shield, the bulwark and the unique guarantee for survival and durability.

Sultan Bin Ahmed: The Forum is a platform to promote dialogue between governments and peoples.

The official opening ceremony of the event that was brought to the audience by the media-maker Mohammed Khalaf Director of Sharjah Radio Station, began with the address of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Center, who introduced his speech by welcoming the Sponsor of the Forum and its participants before approaching the main task of the Forum.

He said, “Sharjah has undertaken the mission of constituting a real platform to promote dialogue between the governments and peoples through this forum, to share the best practices in government communication, mainstreaming and the dissemination of interest and benefit from the experiences of the entire world in the field of communication, so that the communication between its departments becomes more effective, leading to its address being more

harmonious.”

He added, “We’ve met today from different nationalities, cultures, languages and religions to share our visions and take earnest steps towards action and change, as well as to learn from the best practices in the field of government communication from around the world.

Let’s discuss, share, communicate, learn and cooperate. The world today is in need of openness, discussion, communication and more importantly optimism. So, public satisfaction is not an easy task that can be achieved all of a sudden or with a click of a button, as we have no magic wand that can assure easing difficult tasks and change perceptions and concepts associated with the methods of dialogue and communication, but we have a strong will to disseminate the best practices in the sector of government communication, which has now become a necessity the significance of which can be perceived in light of the changes that are taking place in all parts of the world.”

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed avails himself of the opportunity to initiate the first steps of sharing the best practices during the forum, where he briefly outlined the experience of the Emirate of Sharjah in the development of government communication methods saying, “We have put the task of upgrading the standards of government communication in the emirate of Sharjah to execution driven by a clear vision that yielded to date building and liaison unit that will contribute to raising the level of communication between all government departments and its multi-faction public, training human cadres in departments of Government Communication in the emirate of Sharjah to enhance and develop their performance using a style that keeps pace with the changes occurring in the world and investing in young human potentials and encouraging them to engage in government communication, as our choice is to provide a platform for the development of methods and channels of communication with the people, as we have no choice but to work and race against time to achieve the desired aspirations”.

He made a quantum leap in the Society’s activities and events and many creative accomplishments which reflected its aspirations and consolidated taking it to the bright prospects looked forward by our wise leadership at the forefront of whom comes His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. On the Society achievements:

“Injaz” interviewed His Excellency Majed Salem Al Junaid, Director General of Sharjah Cooperative Society on a number of topics relating to the functions of the Society and the achievements it realized during the last stage; the interview test is as follows:

When and how Sharjah Cooperative Society was founded and how many branches does it have to date?Sharjah Cooperative Society, which is one of the most important, prestigious and oldest societies in the UAE was founded in March 1977 under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah by Ministerial Decree No. 16 of 1977. Its main launching was in Helwan’s branch, where this branch was built on a total area estimated at 21,720 square meters, yet the total number of its branches has amounted to 20 to date, distributed geographically over all parts of the Emirate of Sharjah in order to serve the communities and meet the aspirations of their inhabitants. Under the Society’s plan we aim at raising the number of branches to 50. Other branches will be instituted to cover other cities and areas in the emirate. These branches have all the elements of contemporary shopping; and thus we complete therein the march of our outstanding achievements by Allah’s will.

What is the purpose of establishing the Society? The purpose of establishing the Society, which is truly one of the outstanding societies in the state, is to better the life conditions of its members, socially and economically, by adopting the cooperative principles contained in this system, and in accordance with Law No. 13/1976, and to this end, the Society:Purchase of its members’ needs on wholesale basis and selling them at affordable prices, create projects and services needed by the members to improve and raise their living standards.

The Society has a big, distinguished and effective role in meeting the needs of the local market by providing the goods and commodities it imports from the approved major resources with high quality and well-known brands. It also

has a significant role in stabilizing the prices of goods and necessaries, balancing the market and protecting consumers from the greed of merchants. Part of the Cooperative Society’s policy is not to raise the prices and, instead, do with a tenuous profit margin, as it sells its goods at competitive prices that are suitable, acceptable and affordable to everyone. The objectives of the Society are therefore reflected in the service of the community, the participation in the development and its keenness to boost the economic and social development in the country towards excellence, leadership and success.Based on this concept, Sharjah Cooperative Society, which enjoys the pride and appreciation of all society factions and segments for its meeting the needs and wishes of the shopping public, has become one of the excelling and distinctive societies in the state, as it has really witnessed over its establishment span unmatched quantum leaps and an unprecedented major development in the cooperative sector service.

From your point of view, what are the main factors of success and prosperity of the cooperative movement in Sharjah?Among the most important factors for success and prosperity of the cooperative movement in Sharjah, are the great support and continuous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and his brother His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah as well as the cooperation of many state ministries, concerned with the cooperative movement, with the Society, and the great efforts and outstanding efforts exerted by the Board of Directors of the estimable Society who have had the greatest impact on the development of the Society’s work, the excellence of its performance and works.

What are the main achievements of the Society? The Society has made many significant and amazing

achievements, which are indeed points of honor and pride for all the consumers and the segments of society. All that success happened as a result of the support of the Society’s Board of Directors through expressing their business related constructive opinions and proposals which really contributed to achieving these achievements which have become the beacon of the Society’s distinctive and bright march. What we achieved was a result of the great efforts, high performance and fruitful cooperation of the staff of the Society and all of its workers, as they played a leading role to ensure the excellence of the Society and pushing it forward towards achieving its aspirations. Among the achievements is introduction of state-of-the-art systems and technologies in the work of the Society to facilitate its tasks, coverage of other areas in the Emirate with new branches, modernization and renewal of a number of old branches and conclusion of many bilateral agreements with several government departments and institutions in order to support the Society and communicate with it in all ways and means that may upgrade and promote its works and raise the proportion of nationalization therein.

What are the ambitious plans for the development of the statutes of the Society?Sharjah Cooperative Society is keen to implement ambitious plans for the development of management and operating systems. In order to achieve this goal, the Society signed a cooperation agreement with one of the companies specializing in this field with a view to developing and upgrading the systems of the Society to keep pace with modern technologies in the light of a modern and highly sophisticated world, commensurate with the directives and aspirations of our wise government which has always been keen to conclude agreements with international companies specialized in the field of electronic services to obtain information in a highly accurate way aiming at achieving the objectives and aspirations of the Society, the satisfaction of its consumers and save time and effort as well.

The Society has also adopted a diverse range of systems and modern management techniques which have effectively contributed to the sustainable development and meet the requirements of shareholders and customers under the principles of community responsibility, trust and excellent service.

Training has become for our Society an integral part of our work plan or the successful thought of our institution, especially when that institution works in a vital field represented in its providing service for the community sectors.

Are the outstanding personnel often honored?Yes, Sharjah Cooperative Society occasionally organizes ceremonies to honor the outstanding staff and workers in appreciation of their efforts, distinctiveness and dedication to their jobs; we are consistently keen to honor the honor-deserving employee as he consistently and effectively contributes to the achievement of the Society aspirations towards reaching the sought-after progress and success that meets the objectives and wishes of his wise leadership. Wisdom you believe in:- It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness- The strong is not the one who always wins the war; yet the weak is the one who loses peace- The good word is a laissez-passer to enter all hearts

Hobbies:- Fishing and bodybuilding What is your life-wish?That love, security and peace prevail in our Arab world, away from war and that I contribute to whatever act and deed that may lead to happiness and well-being of the community- I would love to contribute by a successful footprint in my job field, which I am always keen to perform with brilliance and success through collaboration with my colleagues to work whom I owe respect and appreciation for their cooperation with us towards fulfillment of the duties assigned to us.

Have you ever been honored during you job performance?Yes, I got many honors and promotions by a number of officials before I joined Expo in recognition of the efforts I made towards development and promotion of the job I love best; yet since I joined Expo Centre Sharjah on 24th April, 2010 I have received a good few of appreciation letters from my department in recognition of the efforts I made, especially in some situations where I sacrificed and did my best to keep the property of the Centre and the exhibitors and to safeguard their safety. On this occasion, I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to my Supervisor Mr. Moataz Mohamed Osman, Director of Operations, who has constantly been keen to reward outstanding, tenacious and ambitious employees who constantly observe the performance of their duties with honesty and sincerity.

What does training mean to you and did you get any training courses?I affirm that training is the main pillar for the creation and development of staff able to do their jobs the right way and achieves for the institution adopting it a quantum leap in performance. In this regard, I attended several training courses in safety and security and gained through them the experience necessary to boost my career talents, which gave me important opportunities to better and refine my abilities and develop my skills so that I can be a successful element and perform the duties entrusted to me in my organization to the fullest.

Do you have any tips to benefit your colleagues? All I would say is advising them to abide by the work performance with accuracy, honesty and sincerity, observe popularization of the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding among all colleagues in order to serve the public interest, respect time and be committed to report to their offices on time and within the

official working hours towards achieving the principle of sense of responsibility and be sincere in their work.

What is the nature of your job?I perform many safety, security and customer service related tasks and duties among which are protecting and maintaining the property Expo Center, exhibition organizers and visitors, ensuring their safety and security, as well as providing safety and security guidance and counseling with a view to maintaining the smooth development of events and ensure compliance with laws and regulations in force in the Centre, as well as periodic inspection of civil defense devices and sirens to make sure they are safe and not messed up, and report to the Director of Operations Department the equipment safety status and functionality.

Do you have anything to add? When a mathematician was asked about the method of computing human beings mathematically speaking, he repliedIf someone is of good conduct, his value will be equal to 1If he is of some beauty, a zero is added to the right of the previous 1 making it 10If he has some money, a zero is added to the right of the previous 10 making it 100

If he is knowledgeable, a zero is added to the right of the previous 100 making it 1000

Yet if he loses his good conduct, the one will disappear, leaving nothing but the zeros. This means that man is nothing without good manners as Allah said in the Koran, addressing the attribute to His Holy Messenger “And indeed, you are of a great moral character.”Allah the Almighty did not tell His Holy Prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him “you are handsome, rich and knowledgeable”

Cricket GameCricket involves two teams with 11 players on each side. The captain who wins the toss decides whether his team bats or bowls first. If they bat first, their aim is to score a lot of runs and make sure the other team does not reach that score.

Formats oF the GameCricket is played in many formats, but the most popular are TEST CRICKET and ONE DAY cricket. In TEST cricket game goes on for 5 days, with each team batting twice - if time permits.

ONE DAY is the most popular format, with each team getting 300 balls to score runs. And the other team tries to outscore them within the same number of balls.

Key PlayersThree functions of the players are 1. BATSMEN, 2. BOWLING 3. FIELDING.1. Batsmen - one who scores runs of the balls bowled by the bowler. 2. Bowler - One who bowls, and tries to get the batsmen “out” (dismissed from the ground). 3. Fielder - Players (10) who assist the bowler in achieving his goal, and prevent the batsmen from scoring runs. Batsmen The game of cricket mainly revolves around batsmen. Crowds love the batsmen, especially when they wallop the ball all over the ground. Batsmen are the ones who whip up hysteria in the crowd, everybody loves them, and they are the Don Juan’s of the game. Many batsmen are good, but only a few are great. Their style, their flair, talent is unique. To each his own - if I can quote this famous phrase. From the numerous batsmen, from the 11 ICC (International Cricket Committee, London, UK) recognize, only a few achieve immortality.

Getting out in CricketThere are 10 ways that a player can be given out in the game of cricket, listed below. A batsman may also retire out, sometimes called the unofficial 11th way out. A player in most cases cannot be given out when there is a no ball or wide, except for the circumstances of a run out, handling the ball, and obstructing the fielder.

List of Ways to Get Out in Cricket1. Caught - the most common way a player is given out, when the ball is caught before hitting the ground. The ball may also come off the batters hand/glove, and may also be deflected from other parts of the batter or fielder, as long as it does not come in contact with the ground.2. Bowled: when the wicket is knocked down by a bowled ball.3. Leg Before Wicket (LBW): If ball hits the batsman but would have hit the wicket if the batsman was not there (and the ball does not pitch on the leg side of the wicket, unless no stroke was attempted)4. Stumped: the wicket-keeper puts down the wicket while the batsman is out of his crease and not attempting a run. 5. Run Out: when the wicket is put down while no part of his bat or person is grounded behind the popping crease6. Hit Wicket: When the striker breaks the wicket while playing a shot or avoiding a delivery. This can be with the bat or with the body.7. Handled The Ball: willfully handling the ball with a hand not touching the bat without consent of the opposite side. 8. Obstructing The Field: when a batsman willfully obstructs the opposition by word or action9. Hit The Ball Twice: unless he is protecting his wicket or has consent of the opposition. 10. Timed Out: Next batsman due takes longer than three minutes to be on the field and ready to face a ball (or at the opposite crease).
