    Monroe Avenue Bicycle Rack

    Call for Entries

    Project Description

    The Monroe Avenue Merchants Association is requesting submissions for three artistic bike

    racks for the Monroe Village business corridor. The work must function as a secure location for

    bicycle storage and meet the following requirements:

    Main body of the rack must be fabricated from durable materials that can withstand theregions climate

    Each rack must accommodate two upright bikes by its frame and must enable the frameand at least one of the wheels to be secured using a standard u-lock.

    Provide two locking points that are between one foot and three feet off the ground Provide two locking points with a thickness of one inch minimum and four inches

    maximum

    Include no sharp edges or other potential safety hazards A gap near the bottom for pedal clearance A base that can accept at least two 3/8 inch x three inch wedge anchors for surface

    mounting

    Reflect and compliment the character of Monroe Avenue

    Project Cost & Artists Responsibility

    Selected artists assume all responsibility for materials, design, construction, storage and

    delivery of the complete work to MAMA. The artist will be required to arrange installation with

    the City of Rochester and MAMA.

    Material and labor cost cannot exceed $2,500.00 for all three bike racks or $830/rack.

    The schedule of payment will be as follows: (1) $300 will be paid within seven days of signing a

    contract with MAMA and $530 will be paid after installation.

    Project Timeline

    Submission Deadline: Tuesday, May 25, 2012

    RFP Acceptance Notification: June 22, 2012

    Project Completion: August 31, 2012

    Eligibility

    This request for proposals is open to all artists, age 18 and over, regardless of age (over 18),

    race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, disability, or any other

    status protected by federal and state law. Teams may apply; however, the fee will be paid on a

    project basis not per person. There is no residency restriction on who may submit a proposal.

    However, special consideration will be given to applications who reside within the City ofRochester. Also there is a preference that the bike racks are manufactured in the greater

    Rochester region.

    The following information will be required to be submitted in order to make known your

    interest in completing this project.

    Letter of interest with name, address, email address, phone number, explanation ofyour interest in this project and why you are qualified to complete this scope of work.

    Artistic or professional resume (for artist teams, each member must submit) Visual support material and/or examples of past work. Written project proposal (2-3 pages maximum) detailing your project plan, timeline,

    proposed material list, concept drawing, introduction of theme along with other

    pertinent information to the successful completion of this project

    List three references, including names and contact information Cost estimate including materials and supplies needed
