POST ELRCTION GREXIT?Banks PrePare for election aftermathHundreds of employees at big firms, some part of special teams, will be on standby this Sunday, awaiting the results of Greece’s pivotal election. They are preparing for the worst case. The fear is that the vote will heighten the chances of Greece exiting the euro and the global financial system will be shaken when the markets open on Monday.

After being largely unprepared for the extreme stress of the 2008 crisis, large banks in the United States and UK are determined to be ready this time. They have been taking measures to deal with instability in Europe for over a year. In recent months, they have stepped up their contingency planning, especially after it became clear that Greece was struggling to comply with the terms of a March bailout that was intended to keep the country in the euro.

In New York and London, banks have set up dedicated crisis teams, and rehearsed elaborate responses. As clients get nervous, banks have been guiding clients on how to react to a range of situations, from just one country leaving the euro zone to the dissolution of the euro itself.

Ordinary investors, for example, are demanding more information on Europe from their brokers. David Darst, chief investment strategist at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, said the crisis had consumed his regular Monday morning call with the firm’s

financial advisers, and has been the focus of the monthly video he does for clients and brokers. Mr. Darst says he hears two main questions: “What is your thought on Greece pulling out of the euro and it leading to contagion?” and “What impact will this have on my portfolio?”

Large banks that have substantial exposure to the Eurozone have been doing tests to see if important functions like moving money for clients between nations could handle a country leaving the euro. This quarter, a substantial number of Citigroup employees carried out an extensive dry run that assumed a country left the euro and caused wider stress.

Citigroup also has a London-based team that is focusing on crisis responses. The group reports to the bank’s risk officers who give a regular download to the firm’s chief executive, Vikram S. Pandit. And the bank’s board is being regularly briefed on measures that Citigroup is taking to deal with European

turbulence.

FROM THE DUGOUT WITH ANDY DIXONGame over! - What now?

Now all of my articles come from the heart but this week’s even more so. Earlier this week I heard the sad news that

Gordon West had died at the age of 69 from cancer. Now I knew Gordon in my younger days as he worked for my grandfather at both Blackpool and Everton, what I didn’t know about Gordon was what he did after coming out of the game. He was a speaker on the after dinner circuit for a while, which I understand, but his real job after football was in security which surprised me somewhat. I mean he was the number one goalkeeper in England for years, but then I thought does it really surprise me?

Maybe not , when you are involved in football a part of you thinks it’s going to be forever but the hard reality is that it’s not, ‘what to do’ when you step out of the game is the million dollar question. 90 per cent of footballers come out of the game with a small amount of money (if any at all) only a limited few superstars make fortunes, so they have to work, but what do they do? Some stay in the game coaching, scouting or management if they are lucky. Some buy pubs that fail others go into business and fail others go onto get jobs well away from football. I myself when I came out

of my last footballing position (coaching the youngsters at Birmingham city) ended up with a trading business here in Mallorca as well as being a radio DJ and writing articles, such as this.

Too often we hear about former sports stars suffering from depression and even contemplating taking their own life. I’m often asked, “Do you miss the game” YES WITH A PASSION. Don’t get me wrong I love my life here on this lovely Island and I met my beautiful wife here, after finishing in the game and re-locating here, but I still miss being involved in the game every day. I am lucky as I am a qualified coach, which I was encouraged to do when I was only 25, and get the chance to coach the youngsters in our local schools. Unfortunately others are not so lucky.

To me the answer has to be education. People who are involved in sports should be made aware that it will not always be a lifelong career.

Any former sports person will tell you that the first thought that went through their head when they knew their sporting days were over was...

“GOD WHAT DO I DO NOW?”

Until next week be nice to each other

Swedish Spy Can’t Help Sweden

England will not review their Euro 2012 security after claims a Swedish journalist spied on their preparations for the clash between the two nations.

The reporter was said to have used binoculars to spy on manager Roy Hodgson briefing the Three Lions players at their hotel in Krakow city centre ahead of Friday night’s match.

The journalist passed on what he learned to the Swedish camp but England still won 3-2.

But Club England managing director Adrian Bevington has denied England will change the way they prepare ahead of the final Group D game against Ukraine on Tuesday when a draw will be enough to put them in the quarter-finals.

Bevington told Sky Sports News: “(The journalist) read the team board and so was able to see some of the plans that we had in place.

I can’t say it’s something that’s causing us great consternation in the England camp. It certainly wasn’t a security breach and it didn’t affect the result thankfully.”

Asked if England would be reviewing security, Bevington said: “No we won’t be.”

The reporter, Ola Billger, 40, of Stockholm paper Svenska Dagbladet, told the Sun he looked out of his third-floor window and could see the briefing through a glass roof.

He knew which players would mark their Swedish opposition.

“England decided to lay all their secrets out before me,” he said. “What was I supposed to do - look away? I called the Swedish camp straight away and they seemed delighted.”

Sweden were knocked out of the tournament by goals from Andy Carroll, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck.

ariesThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to get yourself back on the road to success. Recent events have put your emotional and physical wellbeing out of whack. Static energy will only cause you to empty your battery. Simple pleasures will be needed in order to help you to relax. Strong words will only bring strong re-actions. Realise that tempers may be short in sensitive areas. You need to break away from extreme solutions when dealing with simple problems. Stay confident in who you are and you’ll be ensured a smoother ride. Your love life has suffered lately and now you need to start melting the heart that you love. You’ll be welcomed back with open arms.

taUrUsThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to get back to your basic wants and needs. People with attitude problems shouldn’t even come into the equation, stay clear of them. Your dilemma is that everybody wants a piece of you. There’s usually a reason for everything that you do, but your creativity may be driven more out of necessity than talent. If you want to try to turn this situation around, you’d better start now. Use the raw materials you have on hand to demonstrate your idea of art and beauty. By week’s end, the mysteries will start to wear thin and expose the harsh reality that really exists. You may have to temporarily withdraw from your profession in order to handle this personal matter. Once you finish dealing with the problem, you’ll be able to find a lot more compassion from your peers than you ever expected.

GeminiThis week’s scenario is highlighted by motivation and positive reinforcement. Recent events have put you in a position of power. You’ll feel moved into proclaiming an alliance between yourself and your peers. Your message will come across in a way that encourages others to join in. You know just which emotions to draw out of others and when to do it. You could combine valid points of view to provide a dynamic effort. Supporters will rally for your cause. Look upward and forward. Doubts should not be considered an option. Teamwork is easy for you and it could prove to be very profitable, in the long run. You’ll come out ahead no matter where you start from. By week’s end, you may get tired of being patient.

cancerThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to bide your time. You need to continue to play the waiting game. Others want answers right away, but you should take some time to analyse the whole picture. If you try to push the process faster, something will hit the fan. Unfounded suspicions and accusations will only make others more uncomfortable. It’s better to keep quiet than to be negative. A surprise will shake things up and provide you with some answers. Try to be as discreet as possible. You’re ready to accept the news but not everybody is. If you expect the circumstances to change, you’ll be ahead of the competition.

leoThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your need to get things completed prior to starting your next project. You’ve got behind and need to get a better grasp of things. You usually work hard but lately you’ve been very lax in matters of importance. Everyone is a specialist or is in need of one. Prove that you know more than your history suggests. Save time and money by drawing on the resources that you already possess. If this strategy has worked for you in the past, then it will probably work again. Strike a happy medium with authorities who are being too rigid about your boundaries. An apology, a smile or a hug will get you what you want. Things are changing quickly and you need to get on.

VirGoThis week’s scenario is highlighted by passion, excitement and the start of new relationships. Negative energy will have no power over the positive flow that you are rolling on, but remember, you need to learn to walk first before you run. The warmth you feel inside will spark your passion for life. Get out there and enjoy all that life has to give. Look past others misgivings in order to take advantage of their expertise. You may not understand all the workings of a new technology, but you can figure out how to use it for your own purpose. Check your list and make sure you cover all the bases. Others will be ready to open up to you and to share all of what they have, both spiritually and physically. In time, you’ll do well, but don’t expect the cash to flow immediately. Your financial picture will brighten, as time goes on.

liBraThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your need to find new ways to succeed. Past performance will not carry much weight and will not have any bearing on the current situation. You need to find your voice and figure out how to use it to your best advantage. Before moving ahead on your own, think about ways to unite others. Human emotions cannot rule you, this time. You must try to look at things on a more intellectual plane. Try your best to stay clear of those who try to bring you down to their level. You need to look beyond the immediate to understand the bigger picture.

scorPioThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to act on your emotions. Sometimes, you may be too quick to react, but this week, you’re right to take a stance. Others are the same as always, but your perception of them will change radically. Be aware that your words and your actions will affect them greatly. Stay calm and your confidence level will rise. Everybody wants security, but their concepts may be different than yours. Your job is to find some common ground and then to start from there. Call for a truce and really listen to others’ opinions. Seek the help of those who want to be productive instead of destructive. Avoid miscommunications of any sort.

saGittariUsThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to get yourself a better perspective on things. Recent events have made your temper flare and you need to re-organize and consolidate your energy. Even though you feel agitated, you’re very social and very capable. Once the meetings are over, transform your home into a refuge from the real world for a while. Step back and realize that things aren’t quite as bad as you thought. Your positive flow has actually put you in a better position than you were before. You may have to act before you think you are ready to do so. Trust your intuition and don’t allow others to intimidate you. Friendships and love relationships will flourish once you decide to speak strongly from your heart.

caPricornThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to take the responsibility for your actions. You’ll

have many options from which to pick from. A show of strength will improve your standing in the community. Choose the honourable road. You may need to go out on a limb, but you’ll have strong support from those in authority. You may need to fulfil a family obligation that you almost forgot about. You’ll realize that your personal relationships need more attention than you’re giving them. You’ll have to work on being more understanding without losing your winning edge. The week end’s activities will provide you with food, friends and good conversations.

aQUariUsThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to put your ideas into motion. In order to accomplish your immediate goals, you must reach out and try new ways to get the job done. If you want to see results, you should know who can help. Maybe there really is a way to benefit from this power surge you feel. You have a great network of allies that can provide you with some solid support. Partnerships will bring you more resources than if you try to go it alone. Listen to reason rather than emotion. If you start to promote your own ideas others will find it hard to deny your requests. By week’s end, you should try to slow down your pace a little so you don’t forget certain details that are important to you. You’ll need a cool and level head while others are losing theirs. A secret will be revealed in time, so you’d better learn to wait. Know your limits and try to work within them. Open the pressure valve in your head and try to relax.

PiscesThis week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to make a very good first impression. People with good attitudes are much easier to be around. So, just be yourself and others will fall in love with you. Use your time wisely and spend it with children who need your guidance. It’ll really help you to feel the magic again. Your impeccable charm will help you to handle your responsibilities with strong authority and creative style. Important details may be overlooked by those who do not care. You need to oversee everything of any importance. Pace yourself so that you don’t get too tired or run down. Since you may not get the time to play that you wanted, find ways to enjoy whatever it is that you have to do. Even if you don’t accomplish much, at least you’ll have a good time doing it.
