I chose Third Street Promenade for my social interaction project. Most days you can find a good crowd of people engaged in various activities. Shopping is the primary draw for this social event, but people also come for the exercise, to be entertained or even to entertain themselves. This is a normal Saturday and people are out enjoying Santa Monica's perfect weather

Shopping is the primary draw for this social event, but people also come for the exercise, to be entertained or even to entertain themselves. This is a normal Saturday and people are out enjoying Santa Monica's perfect weather

• Half the fun of going to third street is seeing the street performers. Entertainers can be seen from all social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. This lady is dancing. Based on her elaborate clothing this display is likely significant to her her cultural heritage. Unfortunately, I being the exception, now one seams to be interested.

• Restaurants can be found all along the mall. People stop to enjoy a quick bite or a sit-down meal. In this photo is a sign with the specials of the day, designed to entice people walking by. Other places employ a host or hostess to help draw in patrons from the street.

• There are many different types of street performers. Some are there to make a few bucks, and others are there do it for fun. This saxophone player has a small display with a tip jar and a stack of cds. I guess it’s a good way to get exposure as a musician as well. This young music appreciator is purchasing one of the cds for the suggested donation of five dollars.

• There is never a shortage of people at the apple store. The employees ( in red ) are engaging customers ready to answer any questions, and to help assist in the sale of any merchandise. An observation of some cultural interest is that you don’t ever see people walking out of the store with a computer under their arm. Their certainly light and compact enough, nowadays to do so. The fear must be that you might be taken advantage of in a crowd situation.

• This guy has a table set up displaying his various politically themed stickers for sale. Its not likely he is taking advantage of the booming political sticker market. Instead he is probably there on a more personal note. This display is more of an open ended conversation starter aimed at sharing political views and opinions.

• People come to the promenade for many reasons. This homeless man, like many other mall goers is taking comfort in being part of the hustle and bustle. On occasion he probably also happens upon a meal and or a few bucks from passersby.

• Oops! Only after getting home and looking at this photo closely did I realize that it said no photos. Its amazing how quickly a little monkey can draw you in. In this picture a baby is interacting with this act. The monkey seams to be just as perplexed.

• Some street performers are better than others at drawing a crowd. These two talented guitar players assembled an audience in a matter of seconds. Other predictably big hits are the break dancers and the guy that can balance a washing machine on his chin.

• Ever present during the holiday season is the Salvation Army. This mans job is to be social and interact. He rings his bell to encourage the spirit of giving.
