Key Points Remember your examination represents an important 40% of your overall GCSE mark

You will now dedicate your lesson time to examination preparation for a period of 10 weeks (plus half term). This will culminate in a 10 hour (two full school days) controlled test in examination conditions where you will complete your final piece(s)

Use all opportunities to progress your work in lesson, at lunchtimes, after school and during any other extra curricular sessions arranged by your teacher

Remember you will choose and respond to one question only

Remember your question is purely a starting point for your personal investigation

Remember each of the 4 assessment objectives have equal weighting. Do not neglect some over others

Prepare to address AO1, AO2 and AO3 in your preparation time

Discuss your thoughts with your art teacher throughout the preparation time

Remember you MUST annotate throughout your sketchbook. The is a key element of AO3. You will need to provide an insight into the skills, techniques and processes you have used. You must be able to reflect on what has been successful or not, and how you could develop your skills, knowledge and understanding further. You will also need to annotate your artists research to help show your understanding and annotate your initial ideas and development as this progresses towards your final piece(s)

Remember you MUST show elements of drawing in your preparation. This can be drawing appropriate to its intentions i.e. a sketch or doodle to demonstrate a thought, concept or idea. A plan or diagram to show how something will be made or how it will work. Alternatively this could be refined drawings in a range of media.

Note - The exam is not the time to take risks and try radical new things you have never attempted prior. This is the time to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding

Always choose something that will hold your interest. Creating something original and personal to you will likely deliver greater success!

You will never regret reaching your goal……You will only regret giving up and not trying hard enough

All of the artist references from the exam paper and teacher found references (AO1) can be found on the ‘Malet Lambert Art Dept’ Pinterest page. We will be creating a series of Pinboards for each question to help you with your ideas and research. Many art teachers nationally will also be doing the same. You can search their boards also using Pinterest by inputing the title of your question and the word AQA. This can be an absolutely valuable resource. Please create an account if you have not already done so! Pinterest will provide more focus than purely using a Google image search.

Search in Pinners not boards for the department

TATE

Another useful resource for (AO1) is to search the ‘TATE’ gallery website. This is a comprehensive library of images, artists information and links. By searching for TATE in Google then using the search function within the site and typing in GCSE EXAM like the screen shot below it will bring you back a number of resources which you may be able to link to your current examination question. Don’t expect to find exactly what you are looking by title for your question however it will provide you with some artist images that will extend your research and make some interesting discoveries.

This is the process of looking at your topic/theme with your thoughts, results of experiments, initial shoots and insights from the work of others.

Try if possible to generate at least 6-10 ideas so that you have a large enough pool to discuss with your teacher and explore which are suitable to develop further.

Ask yourself the question. Have I communicated my journey from the exam question theme/topic to my final piece? Have I evidenced all of the assessment objectives?

As you develop this idea you will now start to consider key elements such as:

what size will your piece be, what materials will be best suited etc
