    Abstract: Writings, personal and organizational papers and printedmatter documenting the opinions and activities of theAfrican-American nationalist leader Malcolm X as thefirst National Minister of the Nation of Islam and,following his separation from that organization, as a

    prominent advocate of human rights and self-determination for African-Americans.

    Provenance: The papers form the larger part of the Malcolm XCollection stored initially in the Shabazz family home inMount Vernon and later sold at a storage auction inMiami. The Shabazz family regained control of the

    papers after cancellation of the public auction byButterfields Auctioneers in Los Angeles, and depositedthem at the Library for a period of 75 years.
