“Hey, how’s it going?” The last thing you want when you’re trying to have a romantic moment on your deck is to have someone come by and interrupt it. Decking is very popular in Sydney but not all homeowners consider how to make their deck more private.

Sure you’re going to use your outdoor decking for barbeques, family gatherings, and parties, but you do want to be able to have some time alone by yourself or with your significant other. It can be very hard to feel like you have any privacy at all in life, so if you have a chance at some you need to take it with both hands.

The House: Work with what you’ve got. Is there a way to make the house shield the deck from prying eyes simply by using the line of the house?

Fencing: Maybe it’s time to upgrade that fence and get something a little sturdier, a little more solid, and a lot more private.

Trees: A tree or two not only makes your deck fit better with your garden, the leaves create natural screening between you and the rest of the world.

Water Feature: Even if no one can see you, you can still feel like you have no privacy if you can hear everybody around you. Try adding a water feature to mask any suburban sounds.

Trellis: If a fence isn’t the go, consider having your deck back onto a trellis with winding vines. Together, the vines and trellis will split you from the rest of the world.

Privacy Screens: Privacy screens are like outdoor curtains or blinds, you can still enjoy the summer breeze and you can block off sections of your deck from view.

There’s plenty you can do to make your deck more private, whether it’s how you build it, what you plant, or what you add to it. You spent the money on decking for your home, you should be able to enjoy it how you want.
