Party! That’s what “Pampered in

Pink” was on October 14, at Erin’s Pa-

vilion in Springfield, Il. This was the kick

-off party for the Making Strides

Against Breast Cancer Walk the follow-

ing weekend.

Women of all ages and a few men,

most of whom were dressed in pink

filled the room. Some were eating

while others were socializing and en-

joying the DJ. There were lines at each

of the pampering stations which includ-

ed: facials, manicures, massages, and

pink hair extensions. Every survivor

was able to pick out a piece of Lia So-

phia jewelry thanks to one incredibly

generous consultant. A photo station

and door prizes rounded out the day.

Though everyone was at different

stages of their fight, they all had a com-

mon bond, breast cancer. Today how-

ever was all about fun and camarade-

rie, a day to honor and support those

fighting this disease.

The day ended with a lot of amazing

door prizes being given away and a lot

of new friendships being made. This is

probably the greatest thing the Ameri-

can Cancer Society does. It gives pa-

tients and survivors a whole new

wealth of friendships and opportuni-

ties.

According to the ACS, one of every

two women with breast cancer turns to

them for help. They did not choose

cancer ; cancer chose them. I want to

make sure the services offered by the

ACS are there for them. Through your

donations this will be possible. For

more information or to donate visit

cancer.org or call 1-800-227-2345.

Making Strides

Against Breast Cancer

This year’s walk was held , October 20, 2012 at the Illinois State Fair-grounds.

Opening Ceremonies began prompt-ly at 9 a.m. with Bob Murray offici-ating.

“I am here to be part of something bigger “he said,” and to stand with everyone who’s been hurt by this disease and to say “NOT TODAY!” Breast cancer does not win today. To-day WE win.”

Survivors Jennifer Harrison and Sara Howel took the stage to tell their sto-ry about how the American Cancer Society was there for them in their fight against breast cancer.

After the survivors released pink and white balloons, the walk was officially under way!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your support. This years Making Strides Against Breast

Cancer 5K walk raised $6,624.21. That’s quite an accomplishment and eve-

ryone who participated should be very proud!

One in every two women diagnosed with breast cancer turn to the Socie-

ty for help. We provide many services for them free of charge . If your

friend needs someone to talk to at 3:00 AM we are there for them. If your

mother losses her hair from chemotherapy we will provide her with a wig!

We offer patients free rides to treatment and a place to stay while in treat-

ment away from home. This is all possible because of people like you.

I am sure you are looking forward to the pictures and article on Pam-

pered in Pink and the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk. There

are many more on our Facebook page if you are interested.

Enjoy this issue of Strides and let it inspire you to start organizing your

team and fundraising for next year. Your support will help more survivors

celebrate more birthdays and we here at the American Cancer Society

love birthdays!
