St Clair Station (at Yonge) The streetcar loading platform will be re-constructed and the station roof will be replaced. St Clair West Station (at Bathurst) Tracks and overhead wires on the on-ramps leading out of the station will be replaced and upgraded. St Clair Streetcar Right-of-Way While the station projects take place, the TTC will be working along the streetcar dedicated right-of-way on St. Clair Ave. Construction involves retrofitting a four-metre section of each passenger platform to ensure people using mobility devices can easily board the new, low-floor streetcars. Full platform replacement – such as that required on the Spadina streetcar route in 2014 – is not required for the platforms on St. Clair Ave. Transit Service Changes In order to minimize the use of buses in place of streetcars, the projects are being done together. The priority is to return streetcar service on St. Clair Ave. as quickly as possible. From mid-June to September, buses are scheduled to replace streetcars along the entire 512 St Clair route. Streetcars are scheduled to resume service between Gunns Loop (Keele Street) and St Clair West Station (Bathurst Street) in September. From mid-June to December, work at St Clair Station will necessitate the use of buses between St Clair West Station (Bathurst Street) and St Clair Station (Yonge Street). Station Accessibility & PRESTO Construction is well underway to make St Clair West Station fully accessible with new elevators. The TTC will also be installing new PRESTO-enabled accessible fare gates in late April (St Clair Station) and throughout May (both St Clair and St Clair West stations). Signs will be posted throughout both stations during construction and TTC ambassadors will be available to direct you to the closest entrance. PRESTO card readers will not be available on all buses during this project. To learn more about PRESTO please visit ttc.ca/presto.
