    In this plan youll find:

You wanna make sawdust?Sure you do!

    Americas leading woodworking authority

  • 2015 Woodworkers Journal

If youve heard it once, youve heard it a

hundred times: Keep making sawdust, they

    say on all those videos.

And yet for those just starting out in

woodworking, this cheerful saying can cause

untold anguish. I dont know how to make

sawdust! you lament. Ill never be a real

    woodworker!

Never fear, dear reader, we have come to your

rescue with this plan, which will guide you

easily through the process of creating your

    very own pile of sawdust.

First, you will need a saw. (Where did you

    think sawdust came from?)

While it is of course patently obvious that the best

saw for making sawdust is an antique Japanese

handsaw that your ancestors purchased in 1803

(not 1804; that was a bad year for these saws) I

mean, anybody who knows anything about

woodworking knows that you can probably get

away with using just about any old saw that you

can find. Heck, you could probably even use a

power tool like a band saw or a table saw.

Next step: prepare your mind for the cut. Step

    back. Visualize. Sharpen your wits.

Then: Attack! Slice the wood open. Disembowel it.

    Tear into the entrails.

    Making Sawdust

  • (Seek therapy if needed. If you dont need it yet,

you may after the next step.)

    You have created sawdust.

You may now manipulate it, just like a real

woodworker. Sprinkle it through your hair, upon

your tools, over the floor of your shop; shape into

cute little animal shapes and put googly eyes on it

    whatever.

To create more sawdust, repeat the steps above.

    Youre welcome.

Just follow our instructions and you can turn

    this...

    Into this!
