MAKING PREDICTIONS
2014
WILL, MAY AND MIGHT
We use will, may and might + infinitive to makepredictions about the future.
Examples:
English will be the main language in the world.(Strong prediction)
Chile may/might win the soccer world cup.(Less strong prediction)
Will talks about predictions based on personal viewpoints. Will is also more definite than May and Might.
Example:
In the future there won't be enough space foreveryone to live.
(Personal opinion or viewpoint)
We often use adverbs of certainty with Will orWon't.
Some adverbs of certainty are:
* Definitely / Certainly (definitivamente / ciertamente)
* Probably (probablemente)* Likely / Unlikely (probable / improbable)
The adverbs of certainty go after will and beforewon't.
Examples:
The earth will definitely be warmer in 2050.
We probably won't come to the date next April.
Be + likely + infinitive has a similar structure
like the one we use with will and won't. We use it to talk about things that are probable inthe future. Likely means in Spanish probable.
Examples:
Your friends are likely to laugh at you if you wear that(Tus amigos probablemente se reiran de ti si usas eso)
They are unlikely to forget you(Ellos probablemente no te perdonarán)
