Transcript of Making Escher Tiles
STEM ClubTiles and Tessellations
A tessellation or tiling is a collection of two dimensional shapes that fit together with no overlaps and no gaps.
Most tiles are made from polygons, but some are not…
M.C.Escher was a Dutch graphic artist
He is famous for creating amazing tessellations,
like these…
Think you can’t do that? These designs were created by
Y8 and Y9 students…
This design was created starting from a rectangle.
Can you see how?
In fact, it’s really easy to create a real work of art!
So, are you ready for a challenge?
Can we transform this…
into something like this?
What will we need to do?
1. Learn how to make an unusual shape that will tessellate
2. Choose some designs that we will use to make tiles
3. Make tiles out of clay4. Paint our tiles5. Display them and admire our work
