Intro: Make wireless charging mouseI prefer wired mouse to wireless mouse for one reason, which is about battery. It feels inconvenient for me to look for the charging machine to charge up a dead batteryor purchase new battery when it is discharged. Sometimes it goes bad at inconvenient times.

I found wireless mouse not used for sometime in my room and decided to make an wireless charging mouse for myself.

First, you can purchase the inductive charging set online(follow this link). With this module, you can upgrade your wireless mouse into your own wireless chargingmouse.

Step 1: The MethodologyWhen it comes to the wireless mouse with 3V (uses two 1.5V batteries), the inductive charging receiver makes 5V DC output and it flows into LiPo charger module. LiPocharger module charges LiPo battery and prevent over-charging (and over-discharging). Also we can draw power from LiPo charger module to activate the mouse.

Step 2: Gather the componentsthe components and tools for this job:

In the photo above, you can also find major parts that you need to prepare.

Step 3: Open mouse coverYou can see the circuit like picture above when you open mouse cover. Remove the AAA battery space and were going to locate parts in it. The red and black line is forthe power source.

Step 4: Connect each partI used LiPo charger module below. It has connection holes for battery, power input and power output (for mouse in this project).

+, holes in left side is for the external power source(5V). Connect both to inductive charging receiver.B+, B- holes in right side is for the LiPo battery's +, -.OUT+, OUT- holes in right side is for the mouse. The red and black lines in your mouse should be connected to each of these.

Step 5: Solder parts and testIve soldered parts like picture below. To turn it on/off, I added a button at LiPo battery power line.

And I tested if wireless charging parts works well or not. Above picture is inductive charging transmitter. I connected this to power supply with 12V setting.

When transmitter and receivers coils are getting close, LiPo charger module turns red LED on. You can see the blue LED when battery is full.

At this time I found that this white mouse is out of order. So I changed the mouse with another one. At below steps you can see the black one.

Step 6: Locate the parts in mouseI made space for the wireless charging parts by removing the AAA battery area. To be more effective in wireless charging, locate the receivers coil at bottom.

And check again if wireless charging is working. If there is no problem close the cover.

Step 7: Make parking padHide inductive charging transmitter under the mouse pad or anything else.

Now you are free from battery!!

This article is written with wireless charging mouse. :)

kmpres says: Mar 15, 2015. 7:44 AM REPLYNice one! I have an old Microsoft wireless mouse that uses two AA batteries, has no switch and is not smart enough to turn itself off so it runs out of juiceabout every two months. To save money I use two sets of NIMH batteries and a separate charger so one set is always ready to go when I need it. I alsohave a much cheaper Gear Head wireless mouse that uses two AAA batteries, has a switch and does turn itself off, but lasts almost a year before it needsnew batteries. This wireless charger circuit would be a great addition to the MS mouse, not so much for the Gear Head as the added electronics woulddouble its cost, but the freedom from ever changing batteries might make it worthwhile.

By the way, if you're tired of cleaning mouse pads and mouse feet I've found a great solution for that problem. Use a small white nylon cutting board instead.A set of three in varying sizes costs something like $10. The smallest one is too small for a cutting board but the perfect size for a mouse pad. It's veryslippery and dirt and skin cells don't stick to it. It's also thick enough for you to hollow out the underside to fit the wireless charger coil. I also put some feet onthe bottom in the form of small stick-on Velcro pads (the loop part) to keep dirt from getting caught under it and scratching my desktop.

GodsTale says: Mar 16, 2015. 2:41 AM REPLYThank you for the advice. I think it'll be better if I can make parking pad transparent. Easily I can find where to park for charging.

lbrewer42 says: Mar 15, 2015. 10:27 PM REPLYGreat idea - I can see how this would be a great adaptation to my Mac desktop's Magic Trackpad (non-integrated - large, external trackpad) The best part isthe Both loops could fit right under the incline it is designed to sit at.

GodsTale says: Mar 16, 2015. 2:37 AM REPLYI'm expecting your work. Please share the result when you have done it.

rcarrio says: Mar 15, 2015. 10:47 AM REPLYCan i use this method to Qi charge a Xbox One controller?

knexpert1700 says: Mar 15, 2015. 1:19 PM REPLYI'm not sure if I would tamper with a $60 controller. You could try to make a wireless plug that could plug into your controller, but still: damage could bedone without the proper voltage and amperage that the controller is acclimated to.

blakelock says: Mar 15, 2015. 6:52 AM REPLYbrilliant and simple idea. why isn't it commercial??

gravityisweak says: Mar 10, 2015. 5:58 AM REPLYThis is perfect. Creating a mousepad with the coil inside or even embedding it in your desk would be awesome too!

Leonous says: Mar 10, 2015. 6:59 AM REPLYcame to say that +1

pawelplexi says: Mar 10, 2015. 2:51 AM REPLYgood wireless project!

Pat Pending says: Mar 9, 2015. 10:49 PM REPLYExcellent project! I haven't used a wireless mouse because of the usual charging/battery issues but I like this idea.

tomatoskins says: Mar 9, 2015. 10:27 AM REPLYThis is a wonderful idea! Your mouse is going to be sitting around the same spot all day so it's not an issue of it wont charge or not.
