Between war and embargo - Building an ecological society
In Rojava (Northern Syria), in the midst of a raging war, a society based on the values of women's liberation, radical democracy, and ecology is being built. In early 2018, we, people from across the world, launched the campaign 'Make Rojava Green Again' in co-operation with the newly-established local autonomies to help find solutions to the vast destruction of nature that has resulted from decades of colonialism, capitalism, and war.
OutOut first major project is to participate in reforestation across the region. The Syrian regime razed the forests of Rojava to develop a wheat monoculture, even forbidding the growing of fruit or trees in many parts of Northern Syria. The consequences have been disastrous. Soil quality has plummeted while fertiliser and water usage has grown immensely, and in a part of the world where both are scarce.
Reforestation is our main weapon in the fight against desertification. It will improve soil quality, increase water retention in soils, and foster biodiversity.
To finance all of this we depend on donations.

To spread the word and to enlargen the campaign, we need your help - feel free to contact us.
In co-operation with the local administrations of Rojava we will plant thousands of trees, mainly in the Hayaka Nature Reserve, West of Derîk (Qamişlo Region). In order to do so we will establish a new tree nursery, run as a co-operative by internationalists and the local population.
Where nature is destroyed, so society is destroyed.It is time to Make Rojava Green Again!
