There were a broad range of activities on offer including Runner Bikes, Fencing and Dance Camps. In Seaton Sluice, a Halloween Party was or- ganised and consisted of a disco, arts & crafts and traditional games such as bobbing for apples. As part of the Ability to Play programme, there was an option to ‘Stay all Day’, a new alternative as a result of feedback from service users. Partners who have supported the programme include Seaton Valley Parish Council, Newbiggin Town Council, Morpeth Town Council, Cramlington Town Council & West Bedlington Town Council. The next Active Holidays programme will take place during February Half Term. To be the first to see the programme online (from late January 2013) please visit our website. Active Holidays Autumn Holiday Programme

BVAL and partners delivered a fantastic ‘Active Holidays’ programme dur-

ing Autumn Half Term for families and young people across South East

Northumberland.

There were a broad range of activities on offer including Runner Bikes,

Fencing and Dance Camps. In Seaton Sluice, a Halloween Party was or-

ganised and consisted of a disco, arts & crafts and traditional games such

as bobbing for apples. As part of the Ability to Play programme, there was

an option to ‘Stay all Day’, a new alternative as a result of feedback from

service users.

Partners who have supported the programme include Seaton Valley Parish

Council, Newbiggin Town Council, Morpeth Town Council,

Cramlington Town Council & West Bedlington Town Council.

The show was a sell out with 200 people buying tickets to watch acts per-form a range of different dance disciplines such as Zumba, Just Jhoom, Cheerleading and Break Dance. Archery sessions prove popular

A new Archery club at Josephine Butler Campus has proved extremely popular amongst students who have tried it for the first time. Delivered by Ray Snell (Northumberland Church of England Academy) and supported by BVAL’s Make-a-Move team, 24 young people have ben-efitted from the coaching expertise on offer. Many of those who have at-tended have also gone on to pass their first level of assessment. BVAL have been able to provide support as a result of Sportivate, a pro-gramme which gives young people aged 14-25 years access to a range of different sports with the aim of continuing their participation beyond an ini-tial 6 week period.

Tri Northumberland Events Programme 2013

Grassroots sport in Northumberland has been given a boost after a local school received a grant of

£184,584 from the Football Foundation.

The £296,788 project includes a combined investment of £98,704 by Cramlington Learning Village and

BVAL together with a £5000 contribution from the junior football clubs in the town. Support was also re-

ceived from Cramlington Town Council and County Councillors Tom Brechany and Barrie Crowther.

The funding will allow the school to refurbish an existing sand-based surface into a new 3G artificial grass

football pitch for use by students and the wider community

The Children’s festival in Seaton Sluice took place during Autumn Half Term, providing an opportunity for children of all ages to have fun and get active. The event included music, inflatables, sport activities, crafts, story corners and much more. BVAL also provided free pumpkins and a carving station for children in preparation for Halloween. The event was really well attended and received fantastic feedback from those who attended. Jean Bell, a parent at the event said, “it has been one of the best days out. Lots of activities, entertainment for all ages. Well done.” Lewis (aged 4) and Lucy (aged 3) commented, “What a great time, great activities, loads to do”. Several partners were involved including Seaton Valley Parish Council, Blyth Valley CVA and Seaton Sluice Community Centre.

Tri Northumberland have announced their events programme for 2013. Popular events at Druridge Bay, QE2 Country Park and Ashington. In ad-dition to this, Newbiggin Sprint Triathlon has been selected as an ETU World Championship Qualifying event for 2014. Tri Northumberland will also be organising charity run events in 2013. Active Holidays February Holiday Programme

Representatives from 5 Northumberland School Sport Areas gathered at Ashington Leisure Centre to compete in the School Games Indoor Athletics Final in January. Organised by Northumberland Athletics Network, the event was part of the Fun in Athletics programme which provides an exciting introduction to Athlet-ics competition for young people. A number of qualification heats took place before the final which involved 380 young participants. A range of partners were involved including Northumberland School Games Organising Committee, England Athletics, Sportshall Associates, BVAL, lo-cal Athletics clubs and volunteers. Winning schools were Chantry Middle School (U11 mixed, U12 boys & girls), Cramlington Learning Village (U13 boys) and Ovingham Middle School (U13 girls). Winners of U12 and U13 events will now compete in the North East Regional School Games Final in February. BVAL will be launching a new user friendly Activity Finder in 2013! It will be available on our website, and will allow you to search for BVAL activities by date, location and facility. Activity information is also available by downloading GymJam, a free App available on smart phones. Make-a-Move activities are available by searching for Blyth Sports Centre.

BVAL will be delivering a range of activities during the February Half Term across South East Northumberland. Activities include a Football Camp, Rock Climbing sessions and a range of Dance Camps which includes an opportunity to take part in a performance at the end of the week and free admission to the Cinema Special at Blyth. Ability to Play ’Stay all Day’ will also be on offer following its success during Autumn Half Term.
