Charles Edward Grant
• Joined army in 1861 as a sergeant
• Was aboard steamships, part of Gen. Burnside expedition in North Carolina
• Mustered back into Boston in 1863
• Promoted to Lt.
• Quickly promoted to Captain of co. B of the 55th Mass. Vol. inf.
• Led battle on James Island, S.C.
• Led battle of Honey Hill. One colored soldier received Medal of Honor.

Life after the war
• After the war Charles settled in Worcester, got married to Luella Howe, ran the Grant Fire Insurance, and had four children.
• There home in Worcester is no longer where it once stood.
• Children• Malcolm M. Grant (Harvard Graduate class of 1905)• Barton H. Grant (who fought in WWI)• Harold Grant• and Stephanie Grant.
• He was born in Kennebunk, Maine on June 14th 1842
• Started Insurance in 1878• He would help Civil War vets in time of need.• After Christmas of 1927, he slipped on ice and
broke his hip.• He died on Dec. 31st, 1927
Malcolm M. Grant
• Charles passed on his company to Malcolm. • Malcolm had one child, Stephen M. Grant.• Stephen sold the company in 1973• Stephen had Charlotte Grant• Charlotte had seven children. The fifth child,
first son Paul V. Grady is my father.
