International Speedway Blvd. Daytona Beach, FL 32114 Issue #3 ear Buccaneer Family, It is hard to believe that the first semester has come and gone, and we are well into February! The school year continues to go by very quickly! We are about to embark on one of the busiest times of year as we prepare to enter the “testing season.” During the rest of this month, our teachers will continue to prepare the students for the battery of state tests that will take place in March, April and May. Those tests include End Of Course (EOC) Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Biology, and U.S. History exams. In addition, there are FSA Literacy tests for ninth and tenth graders. Finally retake tests are scheduled for those juniors and seniors who still need to get the appropriate score. It is important to remember that students are required to earn passing scores on the Reading and/or literacy tests in order to meet graduation requirements. As the EOC exams are completely phased into the fabric of public education in Florida, students must show enough proficiency on the tests in order to earn the required credits for the courses. Mainland High School teachers have been working hard all year to prepare the students to be positive and successful throughout the weeks of testing and for every challenge they may face as a hard working Buccaneer student! As educators, we would ask you, too, to do your part to support the success of all our students! Insist that they do the homework and reading that has been assigned! Encourage good study habits – setting time aside each day for study and making that time count. But it is your child’s consistent attendance at school that is integral to real academic success. Tell them that you support their sincere efforts to do their best, and you believe in them! We sure do! Our Buccaneers are the best!! If you have any questions about the FSA, the EOC exams, the testing dates or procedures, please feel free to contact us at any time. We want to answer any questions you may have! Thank you for your continued support. In Buc Pride, Cheryl A. Salerno, Ed.D Principal

2Community Notice

Mainland High School would like to make our community aware of a company that has not been doing honest business in our area with the local community. The company changes names throughout time, calls businesses and says they are representing the school and raising sponsors for their fundraising t-shirts. The school never gets the shirts, and the community pays for everything. At this time the company is calling itself End Zone Advertising.
