Plenary Session 1: When the Growing Gets Tough: Balancing Regulations and

Innovation

Amidst a landscape of financial integration, acceleration of cross border transactions and intensifying competition in ASEAN, banks in the region need to plan ahead and pursue opportunities across borders in order to grow and increase their competitiveness. Given that both the financial systems and regulatory landscape for banking across ASEAN are at very different stages of development and sophistication, this session will look into issues of growth and sustainability, including:

Handling domestic regulations against the

regional regulatory overlay;

Balancing these regulations and risks to

support domestic and regional growth; and

Facilitating product innovation and financial

integration that cuts across borders.

Luncheon Talk: Risk Culture and Conduct

Learn what banks are doing globally to monitor, address and report conduct risk in order to enhance corporate value and culture.

route to recovery for banks?

Unethical behaviour in the banking industry has caused banks to pay billions of dollars in fines, compensation as well as caused financial instability. What can be done by banks, governments, regulators and professional bodies to reshape the banking industry in order to restore public confidence and trust in the industry and promote a culture of professionalism amongst individual bankers?

Plenary Session 3: Risk of a ‘Black

Swan’ from Cyberspace

Technology has had a both a disruptive and innovative impact on the financial services industry this past few decades. It has not only revolutionised banking operations, products and services, but has also resulted in increased risks for financial institutions – not only in cyber security but the unknowns. Cybercrime is both subtle and sophisticated, and difficult to detect. This session will discuss:

How to manage the rising risks of

innovation and technology;

Implementation of best practices and

strategies effective against risk; and

Role of governments and regulators on

cyber-governance.
