2. -Mahatma Gandhi 3. After much racking of our brain wecame to a decision that was the mosthard-hitting option which could beimplemented in a week. It was not onlya group decision but a decision takenby all the parents, teachers everyone. The basic thought in everyones mindwas that this new concept is definitelyharming not only elders but childrentoo, and for once and for all it needed 4. Ours has become aconsumerist society- andincreasingly our greed oftensurpasses our needs. This isundermining the resource baseand increasing inequalities. This is the problem that weneed to address. This is aneffort to create a society whichrespects its resources andknows how to draw a line 5. How many of us havent seen thereal behavior of children in toy shops? We all have!Havent we seen the children- crying, rollingon the floor for just one of those Japanesedolls or for that track of hot wheels? The parents finally giving in doesnt help thechild to understand the value of money! The children need to know this mantra byheart 6. Mommy Pleeeease!!! Get these for me 7. Distinguishing between wantsand needs is really importantas from the beginning the childis taught that everything isavailable for them, they justhave to demand! A way to teachyour child is to prioritize theitems which you need. 8. The parents agreed to the fact that it was not anyoneelse but them who spoilt their children as theyneither said NO nor they were firm to any of theirchilds demands thinking that it could compensate fornot being with them all the time.Listening to the children we realized that theimportance of money was not understood by them, buying a bag, new stationery, new water bottlesevery session was not a privilege not yet known forthem. Seeing a new pencil box in the market whichis not owned by them yet, it is a must for them to buyit immediately. The children should say no to themselves forunnecessary things and the parents should say no to 9. The children told us that they felt very awkwardbecause listening to some of the elders they heardthat when the elders were kids, their parents wouldevery day look in their bags and if they foundsomething missing they would look for it. Thestudents felt the situation totally changed becausewhenever they lost any library book, their parentwould not act hesitant and would immediately fishout the money without realizing that they could havefound it with a little search and money would havebeen saved. They blamed this on the parents andthe parents blamed it on the fact that they were notliving in a nuclear family where the grandparentscould give the children the value of money. 10. We were also surprised with a few thingswhich the students told us. One student saidthat because there is no parent home whenthey come back from school and no parentcan give any time to cater their needs, whenever a button is lost from their schoolshirt they just go out and buy a new schoolshirt!Another student, said , that every year aswinter approaches she makes it a point togo out and buy 7 flavors of lip balms, one forevery day of the week. 11. Children are materialistic and as long there isa constant flow of money, they dont mind aslong as they get what they want. 12. We made the children understandpiggy bank conceptDifference between the wants and the needsWhy was India not hit by recessionWe made the parents understandTo be firmTo say noWe conducted surveys.Spread awareness by nukkad natak. 13. We all know about the havoc created wheneven the most technologically advancedcountries were hit by this dreaded 9 letteredword RECESSION!But how come India was not affected byrecession like other countries ?It was because of this loved 6 lettered wordSAVING WE SHOULD ALLSAVE FOR A BETTER FUTURE!! 17. Most of the children now-a-days either tendto spend as they do not want to keep themoney with them, or tempted when theysee their wallets go out to the candy shopand splurge all their money. The Piggybank which was earlier very popular andstill some use it is the path to move on.Piggy banks not only make ourcraving to spend our savings vanishbut also help us to collect all the moneyand keep a check on the way which we are 18. 2+2=5 19. The parents of our society need toknow that some time missed with yourchild or little love and compassionmissing in your offsprings life cant becovered by gifts. The child will becomenothing but materialistic to lifesapproach. This kind of behavior hasto stop by parents! 20. We made the children understand that there is aworld beyond shopping and buying. Thesechildren are getting pocket money which theyimmediately spend in buying stationery itemsand eating in the canteen. They dont thinkbeyond me and are becoming selfish day byday. They want to spend all their money onthemselves. The tradition of saving money andconsuming it to buy something big and useful isvanishing. All these children keep piggy banksbut have now stopped to understand itsmeaning. Parents for them are no longer figureswho hold a great position in our hearts (thosehave been replaced by iPhones, iPads andblackberrys) they have now become the banker 21.
