Welcome Well it s been quite the summer for visiting photographers here in New Zealand

and its been utterly inspiring to be in the company of such talented and

passionate people It was my great privilege to be at the cover shoot in person

for the very first time when the incredibly talented Erich McVey and his lovely

wife Amy visited our shores We gathered one beautiful summers afternoon

on Aucklands Bethells Beach out west and created the very magic you see

in the cover story and it really was as enchanting in reality It was also not

without a couple of hairy moments when the incoming tide rushed at us a

little quicker than we had anticipated and an over-enthusiastic photographer

wanted to push the boundaries This issue also sees a couple of beautiful New

Zealand weddings featured as well as dreamy European celebrations in the

enviable light of Provence and Tuscany We have the best of native Australia

showcased in a Blue Mountains bush wedding as well as a wanderlust inducing

vow renewal in Baja Mexico If this isnt enough goodness for you the rest

of the issue is jam-packed with inspiring shoots and ideas to help you envision

your day your way I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have collating it

all came together Since we live in Texas and they are in California I only

got to try it on twice when I was home visiting We tweaked a few things

and then it was perfect I was so comfortable and it just felt like me

WILD ATheart

Sweeping woodlands command the landscape over the Vale of Avoca in

County Wicklow Not much has changed in this corner of Ireland in the last

century so much so that winding up the tree lined avenue of

Clonwilliam House allowed us to step from one world to another

This was the basis for our inspiration a land of sleeping beauty

where time had come to a standstill This story was set against a palette of copper

mauve and dusty rose accented with poetic Spanish moss and the

craftsmanship of delicate lace and shimmering veils

teven and I loved the idea of having a natural organic feel set in old California Spanish architecture The

Villa in San Juan Capistrano (a town that has a Spanish Mission from 1776) fit that image perfectly Since

the venue had so much natural beauty (trees stone wood) there wasnrsquot much that we needed to do to make

the venue shine Our vision ended up being a fresh clean and organic feeling with natural wood tables and

canvas linens

The flowers ldquoOne of our favourite elements of the wedding

were the flowers Since there was a lot of natural

beauty at the venue we didnrsquot need to do too much

for florals We ended up using fresh greenery with

classic white and ivory flowers Olive branches

were also placed on the tables as this ties into the

California Spanish style

The dress As soon as we were newly engaged I couldnrsquot

wait to start looking I immediately arranged for

my family to meet up about a month later at a

local boutique Little did I know that I would

fall in love with the dress during that first visit

I tried on around fifteen dresses but one stood

above the rest ndash a champagne hued mermaid gown

with Alencon lace I had to sleep on the decision

though After discussing with Steven (but not

giving any details) I went back the very next day

to try it on again and just couldnrsquot picture myself

wearing any other gown I purchased the gown that

day ndash a full two years before our wedding date

WE WERE SITTING AT OUR SWEETHEART

TABLE AND HAD THE PERFECT VIEW OF

ALL OF OUR GUESTS EATING LAUGHING

AND JUST ENJOYING THEMSELVES TO

The ceremony was my favorite time of the day I planned

the wedding timing around the lighting in the beautifully

quaint white chapel we found in Yolo California The

timing was perfect and all of the white simplicity and all

of our dearest friends standing in support of our union

was just such a special thing for us

Although they first met in Delhi India and

got to know each other over richshaw rides

to visit the slums whilst they were there

separately on humanitarian misson trips

it wasnt until Andrew had returned to his

home in California that his relationship with

Julie started to develop Over the next year

thanks to Skype chats and long-distance

movie dates they realised they had something

special With a story that revolved around

their mutual love of India it was natural that

the wedding would take inspiration from the

richness of Indian heritage and the delicate

intricacies of their wares Julie sourced most

the items for their wedding decor from Indian

street markets from elaborately etched tables

vases to hanging Moroccan candle lanterns

it all journeyed half way around the world to

play its part in their big day

When I met Andrew in India he wore a

1939 wheat penny on a string around his

neck When he found the penny in 2008

he kept it ndash he never took it off and he

became known for it On the day before I

left India the string broke and he gave me

the penny to hold on to I bought a chain

and wore it around my neck every day As

the wheat penny is such a tender part of our

story I decided to use wheat in the design

and styling of our wedding so I ordered

some dried bunches and used them to make

bouquets for myself and my bridesmaids

boutonnieres for the men and to add to the

Jessica amp Jonathan

Jonathan proposed to Jessica in Baja Mexico over four years ago so it was only natural that when this

husband and wife design team were planning a vow renewal they would return to the rugged beauty of

this coastal desert Together they gathered various treasures from their large prop collection stuffed

them in several oversized suitcases and headed south of the border

Their love for Mexican folk art and colonial architecture along with a hunger for adventure drove

them to leave the well-trod roads of the resorts and beaches of Cabo They renewed their vows at an

abandoned century-old lighthouse spent a second honeymoon night at the estate of a sugar baron

from the 1870s and set off to a ranch where they rode Lolo the Donkey renown for his beer-guzzling

abilities Jonathan describes their marriage thus far as having ldquorequired that we find strength and beauty

amidst the reality that life is more dusty than we often expectrdquo

The long weekend was filled with a sumptuous five-course feast at Huerta Los Tamarindos Agave Farm

where all ingredients are grown in the fields surrounding the overgrown terrace a day of exploration

in the art-rich town of Todos Santos and several cactus-surrounded sunsets overlooking the Pacific

After a proposal written out in seashells

on a deserted Northland beach and a temporary shell ring that Dave had gifted

Hannah several years prior it wasnt until this beautiful bride to be found her

wedding dress that the rest of the wedding style fell into place Using its soft

tones and romantic fabric as inspiration they designed a timeless wedding

whilst also incorporating some special elements of the brides Jewish culture

with guests embracing the Israeli dancing well into the night

or Elizabeth and Michael their wedding was about much more than just themselves

They focused on the love that transported family and friends across an ocean to

celebrate with them in the breathtaking surroundings of Provence in the South of

France in the process creating life-long memories The bride says Provence is one of

my favourite places on earth and once you arrive it begs you to leave all other worries

behind and embrace the beauty of the landscape and present moment Chateau de

Massillan was simply a dream ndash perfectly elegant and magical and had a very

odd way of making you feel as if you always belonged there

ith a shared passion for all things outdoors having their wedding surrounded by the

beauty of nature was an obvious choice for this Australian couple Laura loves animals

and has a particular fondness for foxes so this was incorporated into the wedding with

the fox making several appearances during their wedding day

For this spring wedding the bush was alive with colour wattle banksia native peas were

bursting with yellow flowers perfuming the air and splashing the wedding colours of

green orange and yellow throughout the day The wedding ceremony was held on a

plateau in the heart of the Aussie bush a string trio performed classical music that

echoed through the trees Itrsquos not often you can sit under a gumtree in an isolated valley

and listen to live music While some people have wedding bells this section of the bush

was full of bellbirds that chimed in through out their ceremony

Botanic Garden at Mount Annan as it allowed us to enjoy the closeness of nature

while still having all our creature comforts

he reception was as spectacular as the ceremony a trio of tipis

overlooking the lake wowed guests This is where Laura and

Ryanrsquos attention to detail and DIY skills really shone handmade

signs tags hessian table runners a free range and organic

menu and native Australian seedlings for guests to take home

Reflecting their love for each other and their appreciation and

care for the natural environment they took great care to ensure

their wedding was green inside and out

menu and native Australian seedlings for guests to take home

Reflecting their love for each other and their appreciation and

care for the natural environment they took great care to ensure

their wedding was green inside and out

FLORAL CROWN RECIPE

To begin use a light base of spirea to for the

structure and shape of the crown Next add

some daphne to create a more stable base

and help aid where the larger blossoms such

as ranunculus are to be placed Continue to

add the larger blossoms such as magnolias

roses and orchids as the main components

Fill it in with accent blossoms like anemones

ranunculus and jasmine vine After the main

blossoms and accents are in place tuck in

sword fern and purple heart succulents to

make the palette pop Voila your own large

school in Oregon It was on the hundred acres

of land with beautiful views of the countryside

that they took long walks getting to know each

other and inevitably fell in love From the minute

they got engaged - eight years and a move

cross country later - they knew they wanted to

do something different and exciting for their

wedding With travel being a given with friends

and family scattered throughout the United

States they decided they might as well have

guests travel to an incredible destination Which

is when a fourteenth century villa on a vineyard

in Chianti came in to the picture

If itrsquos possible to pick one part I think wersquod both agree that

the ceremony was one of the most memorable parts of the

day It was so intimately perfect with the forty guests who had

flown in from all over the United States to celebrate our love

and marriage My mom wrote and performed the ceremony

which I cried pretty much non-stop throughout She surveyed

us individually a few months before the wedding and wrote

the most meaningful personal and romantic ceremony I could

have ever imagined We had one of my bridesmaids who is

a singer-songwriter write original music for our wedding and

sang to us during the ceremony We had a string quartet play-

ing during the bridal party processional and recessional which

seemed to go so well with the setting sun and the rolling hills

around us

The mountains have always been a special place for Elle amp Michael

With plenty of fond family memories it represents happiness for

them so it wasnt hard to make the decision to hold their wedding

amongst the natural beauty of Vail Colorado

It was important to the couple to infuse their ceremony with

personality As well as having one of their best friends marry them

- which had guests both laughing and crying hysterically as she

illustrated their journey together - they wrote their own vows and

didnt share them with each other until the day

Acknowledging that weddings are at their heart the joining together

of two families they chose to have their siblings at their sides rather

than a large bridal party This meant they could all spend the day

together which added to the overall intimacy of the festivities

Remember what the day is truly about ndash the two of you committing to each other for a lifetime There are a lot of little details that can distract and cause stress but if you continually remind yourself of the true meaning you will quickly quiet those stresses

of polish so we had garden roses leucadendron dahlias

scabiosa pods hanging amaranthus mixed with metallic

goldsilver sprayed succulents We wanted everything to

have a loose textured feel to it in order to match the natural

setting of the mountains

Adelina amp Blake

Diablo Dormido an historic Californian Ranch nestled into the

Oak-studded hills of the Santa Monica Mountains offered Adelina

amp Blake the simple down to earth wedding celebration they sought

Getting married outdoors was a big attraction so the sweeping

views of majestic parkland and glorious oak trees to wed beneath

provided them an unrivaled intimacy and privacy

The couple sourced vintage soda boxes from local flea markets for

their centrepieces and re-finished them by hand They were then

filled with white blooms including roses lisianthus and peonies

When it came to choosing her dress Adeline had a hard time finding

the one but finally decided on a delicate lace dress That was

until it was time to show her parents and before they arrived at the

boutique had a complete change of heart and settled on something

more simple and fun Once a friend made her a belt to add to it

she had her perfect dress

OLIVIAampCHRISWaiheke Island in Aucklands Hauraki Gulf is the perfect spot to showcase the best of

New Zealand to visiting friends and family and it was this drawcard that lead Olivia and

Chris to hold their wedding at the acclaimed Mudbrick Vineyard amp Restaurant With its

breathtaking views and award winning cuisine international guests were suitably impressed

Taking their lead from European style weddings they set about creating an intimate and

effortlessly chic celebration with rustic and antique elements scattered throughout

Working with a palette of mushroom apricot and pale pink Olivias bridesmaids chose

mis-matching styles and shades which created a subtle ombre effect

The flowers were the main and pretty much only

form of decoration So I wanted lots of them in a

rustic field-picked style The colours were all blush

pinks blues and apricots and the bridal table had a

carpet of hydrangeas (my favourite flower) which

really stole the show That would have to have been

my favourite detail

The decor

I loved how young beautiful and playful our wedding party was

I had a great time at the beginning stages of

wedding dress shopping trying on all sorts of styles

but quickly fell in love with the look and feel of

wearing a full princess skirt It was when my Mother

and I went to see bridal designer Anna Schimmel

that all three of us got carried away choosing

beautiful lace and silk fabrics and the design process

of my gorgeous dress began I always wanted a

darker hue of ivory and the beading I fell in love

with for the bodice was the perfect complement

of light pinks and cream The skirt was made of

metres and metres of handmade English silk taffeta

which shone the most iridescent colours in natural

light The tiny bodice with full skirt was exactly the

silhouette I was after

photographs on One Tree Hill It was a great way to calm down

and enjoy hanging out with each other as newlyweds before the
