Magnetic hill
Transcript of Magnetic hill
Magnetic Hill is a so called “gravity hill” located near in Leh in Ladakh, , , India.
It is located on the Leh-kargil-Srinagar national highway, about 30 km
from Leh.
The Magnetic hill has become a popular stop for the domestic tourist
on car journeys.
The alignment of the road with slope of the background can the iilusion
that cars are able to drifts upwards.
Magnetic Hill, India
The magnetic hill is an example of gravity hill.
History
In the 19th century, a cart path was built from the city in the south onto the ridge.
During the age of automobile, ca. 1931, it was noticed that at one point
near the base of the ridge when south, motorists were required to
accelerate in order to prevent rolling backward (i.e., what appears to
be uphill)

A magnet attracts magnetic substances such as iron, cobalt and nickel, as well as some alloys.
Some of the Alloys are:
1. Alnico – Al (Aluminium), Ni ( Nickel), co (Cobalt)
2. Fernico- Fe (Iron), Ni (Nickel), co (Cobalt)
3. bismanol- bis (Bismuth), Man (Magnese), Iron
4. permalloy- Nickel-Iron mangetic alloy
Properties of Magnets
A freely suspended magnet always sets itself along the north-south
direction
A magnet has two poles, where its magnetic strength is maximum.
The two poles of a magnet cannot be separated.
Unlike poles attract each other and like poles of a magnet repel
each other.
A magnet can induce magnetism in other magnetic materials such
as iron. An iron nail when brought near a magnet, attracts other
smaller nails or pins.
Earth’s magnetic field, also known as geomagnetic field.
The earth’s magnetic field is believed to be generated by electric
currents in the conductive material of its core.
EARTH- BIGGEST MAGNET
Everybody in space emits electromagnetic waves, including human beings and has an important role to play in the maintenance of health.
Fluctuations in earth’s magnetic field caused by magnetic stroms (which occur on the sun).
Magnetism was discovered and used over 800 years in ancient Greece and china. They even had their own compass.
Rare earth magnets made up of Neodymium and Sanarium Cobalt are the strongest magnet.
All animals, including human, have magnetite crystals in their brains. Scientists believe that animal may navigate or migrate by sensing the pull of the cyrstals towards the earth’s magnetic poles
