RULES & REGULRULES & REGULRULES & REGULRULES & REGULRULES & REGULAAAAATIONSTIONSTIONSTIONSTIONS1. Entries are open to all.2. Exhibitor must be the bonafide maker or grower of the article, or, in the case of livestock,

the owner for 90 days prior to the fair. Items that are not the work of the exhibitor may beentered for display only.

3. With the exception of live animals or plants, no entry shall have been previously entered inthe Southeast State Fair for judging. Exhibits should have been completed within the pastyear unless otherwise specified.

4. No exhibit will be allowed to compete for more than one premium. Only one entry per Lotexcept as otherwise specified.

5. If items are for sale, this information, along with the price, should be on a special tag availablefrom the Fair. The Fair will charge a 15 percent commission.

6. When three or more exhibits of the same type are entered in “Other,” the Superintendent mayestablish a separate Class for judging and awarding. If a Lot already exists for a category,“Other” may not be used.

7. Every possible precaution to protect the exhibits and property while they are being exhibitedwill be taken, but it is understood that the Corporation shall in no way be held responsiblefor loss, damage or injury of any kind from any source whatsoever. No person is allowedto cross the exhibit barriers.

8. NO EXHIBIT MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE FAIRGROUNDS BEFORE CLOSING ONSUNDAY, AUG. 1. Permission is required from fair office before removing exhibits. Exhibitswill not be released except to owners with proper I.D. or written permission from owner (withverification). All exhibits should be removed from the Fair no later than 4 p.m. Monday, Aug.2. The Southeast Alaska State Fair, Inc. will not be responsible for exhibits left at theFairgrounds after this time.

9. Any additional rules pertaining to a specific Department will be defined within thatDepartment description.

10. The right is reserved to refuse or accept conditionally any entry offered.11. Dogs and other animals will be allowed to enter the Fairgrounds ONLY with written

permission from the Fair office, animals entered in exhibits and special eventsexcepted. Exceptions for exhibits or other special events must be returned to their stall orstable or removed from the Fairgrounds immediately after the scheduled event. Exercisingof authorized animals must be done at a time and place designated by the Fair. It will bethe owner’s responsibility to clean up after their animal.

12. Should exceedingly adverse weather conditions occur that would make carrying out theregular program for that day impractical, such program or event may be postponed oromitted.

13. The Board of Directors reserves the final right to interpret these rules and regulations andto settle all questions connected with or incident to the Fair which are not covered herein.

14. No alcoholic beverages shall be brought into the Fairgrounds. Alcohol sold at theFair may be consumed only in designated areas.

15. No unauthorized camping or sleeping in stalls, barns.16. No unauthorized vehicles on Fairgrounds.17. 11 o’clock curfew will be enforced. Curfew may be extended on Thurs. & Sat. for dances.

in each town.2. Mailed entries should be marked clearly on the outside of the package “Fair Exhibit” with the

name of the exhibitor, address, Department, Class and Lot in which the exhibit is to beentered written on the outside of the package and also firmly attached to each exhibit. Mailedentries should be sent in care of the Southeast Alaska State Fair, P.O. Box 385, Haines,Alaska 99827, must be sent prepaid, and must be received by July 25, 2007.

3. Each exhibitor will be assigned an ID number based on the location where they enter anexhibit. This ID number should be used on all entries. There is a place on each exhibit tag

for your ID number. Your assigned ID number will identify the exhibitor as well as eachexhibit. Permanent Fair numbers will not be used this year.

4. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to fill out an exhibit tag for each item they enter. Pleasebe sure to include your correct mailing address. Exhibits which have been erroneouslyentered in a Class, may at the discretion of the Department Superintendent, be transferredto the proper Class before judging.

5. Exhibit ID numbers and tags are available from your town representative or the Fair Office.6. The pink copy of the exhibit tag is the exhibitor’s claim check. Please bring your pink copy

to claim your exhibit after the Fair.

DIVISIONSWithin each department there are divisions based on age or level of expertise. You mustdesignate which division applies to you.1. Junior Division: For exhibitors age 16 and under. If you circle this division you must alsostate your grade at the time the exhibit was grown/made. Grade level will be taken intoconsideration in the judging for this division. If you fail to fill in your grade, you willautomatically be placed in the highest age group. Junior-division categories include:Preschool through 2nd grade; 3rd through 6th grade; 7th through 9th grade; 10th through 12thgrade.2. Senior Division: For exhibitors 17 years of age and up.3. Professional: For exhibitors who have taught for a fee or sold more than $500 inmerchandise in one calendar year.4. Group: For exhibits created by 2 or more people.

Each Lot is judged and places given. A "Best of Class" is chosen from among the blue ribbonwinners within the same Class. Each Division Champion is selected from the Best of Classwinners in the same division. There may be a Champion chosen for each division: Junior,Senior, Professional and Group. The Department Champion will be chosen from the divisionwinners.

PREMIUMSPremium payments are made only in the Junior Division. Prizes are awarded insponsored departments.

Methods of Judging:

American System: Used in all Departments except the two specifically for youthentries and Creative Writing & Music. The American System considers product standardsand fulfillment of exhibit requirements. The judge inspects all exhibits in a Lot andcomparatively ranks them, selecting only one first place, one second place, and one thirdplace. All ribbons will be awarded on the individual worth of the exhibit. In no case will anexhibit be given a ribbon that it would not merit in full competition.

Copies of judging score cards for each Department are available by request from the FairOffice.

Each exhibit must be accompanied by an Exhibit Tag, which are available at the Fair Officeor from your Town Representative.

- Please consult the Entry Procedure for general entry rules.- All entries in this Department should be true to type and variety,medium in size, uniform, and of good quality. They must be clean, no dead foliage, free frominsect or other injury, in edible condition. Root vegetables should have the tops trimmed toone inch. Whole plant classes have the roots removed, but may retain three wrapper leavesfor effective display. Bunch classes should be tied with a rubber band, string or metalfastener.

- Extremes in size should be avoided except in Class C. Follow the specifications in thepremium list below. For further information refer to the Cooperative Extension Servicepublication #39, “Vegetables - Selection and Preparation for Display.”

- Specify variety and/or trade name on Exhibit Tag. Town Reps or out-of-town exhibitors:Please notify the Fair (766-2476) how many exhibits are coming on the airlift.

- Organically grown: only two animal or vegetable fertilizers.- Out of town entries will not be returned unless specified on entry tag.- Classes and Lots are the same for each Division.

The 2010 Southeast Alaska State Fair Logging Showevents will be held Saturday, July 31.

In the event of a tie for overall points, a strawline foot race will be the run-off event.

In the event of a tie for overall points, jousting will be the run-off event.

Registration for these events shall be by mail or in person. Mail registration opens June16, 2010. Send registrations to Logging Show, P.O. Box 385, Haines, Alaska 99827. In-person registration opens July 30, 2010 at the Logging Show booth during the Fair. Regis-tration deadlines for both women's and men's events are 12 p.m. Saturday, July 31.

• Only those persons with a 30-day residency in Alaska or the Yukon are eligible toparticipate in the Logging Show events. Proof of residency must be provided uponrequest of the show judges.• You must provide your own tools for these events — either your own, borrowed, orrented. The care and maintenance of these tools are your responsibility. Hard hatsare required for the power bucking, ax throwing, obstacle bucking and hook tendersevents. Caulked footware is required for the log rolling contest.• The entry fee will be $10.00 for one and each event entered. The fee will be paid atthe registration table before the events begin. - Please consult the Entry Procedure for general entry rules.- All specimens must have appropriate self-foliage attached to thestem of the specimen unless otherwise noted, with the exception of gladioli, dahlia andbegonia classes.

- A tightly closed bud or one that has not sufficiently expanded to show the typical form andbeauty of the coming bloom is not acceptable as a bloom.

- A spike is a specimen with short or long influorescence, usually unbranched except indelphinium. Florets surround the main axis at close intervals with buds developing on theelongated tip, as in lupines, delphinium and gladiolus.

- A spray consists of one stem (not a branch), with or without a central flower or bud. Anyerect spray with the lead bloom open will be acceptable. Nemesia, cosmos and godetiaare spray types.

- Stalk designates a stiff stem, branching or not, with one or more flowers such as clarkia,annual larkspur and lily.

- Stem is the main axis of a plant.- Bloom is used to designate an individual flower terminating a stem, such as exhibitiontype roses. If a Lot already exists for a category, “Other” may not be used. “Other”varieties must be named.

of the original negative.- Photographs must be at least 5"x 7" in size for senior and professional divisions. Juniordivision may enter 3"x5" photos. Photographs must have been taken within the last year.- All entries must be matted with the hanger suitable for use with pegboard hooks. Be surebacking board is rigid enough so warping or buckling does not occur. Transparent coveringis suggested. No string or tape application will be allowed.- If you mat your photography, provide a hanger by punching two holes in the backing boardand run a wire through them and twist the ends as shown. Leave at least 1" between holes.
