1.1.1.12 Calculate SV-Stroke VolumeEF-Ejection fraction

The measurements and calculations of SV and EF on B mode image are all performed based

on the calculated results of both left ventricular end systolic volume and left ventricular end

diastolic volume. However, for different formula applied, the parameters to be measured are

different.

There are four formulae available for calculating left ventricular volume on B mode image. Modified SIMPSON formula:

V=Am+5*Ap/18*L

In the above formula:

Am represents short axis area of left ventricular at the level of mitral valve.

Ap represents short axis area of left ventricular at the level of papillary muscle.

L represents the long axis diameter left ventricular.

Single-plane Ellipse formula:

Measure on the long axis of left ventricular view (cardiac apex two-chamber or four-

chamber view). The left ventricular volume is calculated based on the formula below:

V=π/6*L*D2

In the above formula:

L represents the long axis diameter of left ventricular.

D represents the short axis diameter of left ventricular. Bi-plane Ellipse formula:

After obtaining the short axis profile at the level of mitral valve and cardiac apex two-

chamber, the system calculates the left ventricular volume based on the formula below:

V=8/3*Am*Ai/π*D

In the above formula:

D represents the short axis diameter of left ventricular

Am represents the left ventricular area at mitral valve level view.

Ai represents the left ventricular area at the apex level view.
