BY ANA CAROLINA CONTRI

PICCADILLY Magazine: How did your relationship to sport begin?Fernanda Hayde: It began as an obligation in 2012, after my 3rd back surgery, my neurosurgeon said “Fernanda, if you don’t start exercising, we will soon have to put more screws on your back.” And so I be-gan weight lifting with a personal trainer, 3 times a week, I did everything I could to skip training, I didn’t like it. At around that same time, my husband, my sister and my brother-in-law used to run; I remem-ber I said I could also run, and everyone always said I could never run. But I’ve always been determined, if I want, I can, you know? So, in 2014 I started to run, and I loved it. In 2015 I started to swim, because I thought it would be very good for my back, until I re-alized “I already run and swim, all that’s left is biking,” then, at the end of 2015 I bought my first bike. At the beginning of 2016 I started to do little triathlon races, like sprint (750 Swimming / 20km biking / 5km run-ning) and Olympic (1500 swimming / 40km biking / 10k running). In May, my husband Jean, participated in his first Ironman Florianópolis, I watched and left in awe. So, at the end of 2016, they called me crazy, but in May 2017 I was there, it was the most amazing day of my life, there I learned that I can beat any

I t took a while before Fernanda was diagnosed with Ankylo-sing Spondylitis (AS), an autoimmune disease for which there’s no cure, and which aects the skeleton’s joints,

especially the spine, the hips, knees and shoulders. Before she got diagnosed, in 2017, she went through three back surgeries to try to cure her pain. Getting the news that she had a rare condition with unknown causes could have been a reason to get her down but it was just one more challenge to take on and to overcome, after the many others she had been through. Being a physical therapist, happiness and sports coach, univer-sity professor, and ironman competitor (of the kind that uses her disease as fuel to win every day), Fernanda shared her mo-ving story with PICCADILLY.

obstacle, that anything is possible. And in 2018, even after the AS diagnosis, I’ve done another Ironman Florianópolis. So, I’m twice an Ironwoman.

P.M.: You also keep a blog. Where did that idea come from?F.H.: As soon as I was diagnosed, I started studying more and more about the condition and I noticed that the infor-mation from the internet only had bad and sad things, this disease is extremely cruel, but we can’t just stick to that. I was already on Instagram and I decided to share my diag-nosis with everyone, and it was crazy, many people with the same condition or with a dierent autoimmune condi-tion started looking for me. I started to write more, always based on what I had been studying. Then, I realized I was privileged, I had access to good doctors and to the best treatments. At that moment, I realized that I needed to do more for people who didn’t have the same kind of access I did. I then talked to dierent health professionals and they all agreed to bring quality information and hope to these people, thus providing them a better quality of life.

P.M.: What motivates you?F.H.: We all have an inside strength that is capable of every-thing, and it is that strength which motivates me, which makes me want to scream to the world “Hey, you can do anything you want,” and don’t let anyone tell you otherwi-se. Many people get paralyzed by other people’s opinions and that is not fair, what others think is their problem, we don’t have any control over it. I want women to understand that when they find their vulnerability they find their stren-gth. When I allowed myself to be vulnerable, I found myself, I made myself present, I found so much love, so much ener-gy, so much gratitude, I found my mission. Our story can indeed have a lot of pain, suering, crying, but it can also have a lot more STRENGTH, RESILIENCE and FOCUS, all you have to do is to want it.

PICCADILLY986003

WITH THE #DIAGNOSTICONAOEDESTINO (DIAGNOSIS IS NOT DESTINY) FERNANDA HAYDE SHOWS THAT RESILIENCE IS A MATTER OF WILLPOWER

DO YOU HAVE ALL TRAVEL DOCUMENTS YOU NEED?FOR DOMESTIC FLIGHTS, ANY PIECE OF ID CAN BE USED: STATE-ISSUED ID CARD, DRIVER’S LICENSE

OR PASSPORT. BUT, OF COURSE, AS LONG AS THEY’RE NOT EXPIRED AND THE PHOTOS ARE CURRENT. IF YOU’RE

TRAVELING IN SOUTH AMERICA AND YOU’RE A CITIZEN OF A SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRY, YOU CAN ALSO TRAVEL WITH YOUR STATE-ISSUED ID CARD. BUT IF YOUR FLIGHT’S FINAL

DESTINATION IS NORTH AMERICA, EUROPE, ASIA ETC., YOU’LL NEED A VALID PASSPORT. AND NOT ONLY THAT: YOU MIGHT

ALSO NEED A PREVIOUSLY-ISSUED VISA WHICH IS VALID FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF YOUR STAY. IF YOU’RE TRAVELING

WITH CHILDREN, REMEMBER TO BRING: THEIR ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR STATE-ISSUED ID AS WELL AS THEIR PASSPORT.

CHOOSING A TRAVEL DESTINATION TO ENJOY TIME OFF WITH YOUR FAMILY OR ALONE IS A TASK TO BE DONE FOLLOWING A FEW STEPS

he time has arrived to take some time o to get some rest and to choose a perfect place to enjoy your

vacation. But how can you or-ganize everything and set up an itinerary so that you don’t have a single worry during your trip? Destinations abound and prepa-ration for traveling starts as soon as you choose yours: organize budget, available time and travel documents. The first step to begin planning your itinerary is putting together a checklist. In order to help you, we’ve compiled some tips for things you cannot forget. Have a great trip!

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

THE RIGHT DESTINATIONTHE FIRST STEP TO CHOOSE WHERE YOU’RE GOING IS TO KNOW HOW MUCH TIME OFF YOU’LL HAVE, FOR A LONG OR SHORT TRIP. ONCE YOU KNOW THIS, IT’LL BE A LOT EASIER TO MAKE THAT CHOICE. ALSO CONSIDER THE TRAVEL STYLE YOU LIKE BETTER: ADVENTURE, HISTORICAL, FOODIE, YOUR DREAM DESTINATION. ALSO THINK ABOUT THE WEATHER. AFTER ALL, IF YOU DON’T LIKE WINTER, IT MIGHT BE BETTER TO GO SOMEWHERE WHERE IT WOULD BE WARMER DURING YOUR VISIT. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS FOR YOU TO BE SURE ABOUT THE DESTINATION YOU PICK!

Best List.indd 12 18/03/19 17:05

Page 13: MAGAZINE YEAR 7 / N 0 15 - PICCADILLY · in magazine year 7 / n 0 15 authenticity and diversity to wear what is trendy with a lot of personality all the women you can be fashion |

13

TIME ITINERARYDO A LOT OF RESEARCH ABOUT THE PLACE TO VISIT. WITH ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE YOU’LL BE ABLE TO PICK

EVERY STEP OF THE ITINERARY. DO YOUR RESEARCH THROUGH BLOGS, TRAVEL WEBSITES, THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF YOUR DESTINATION, AND THEN MAKE A SELECTION OF THINGS TO DO WHICH FIT YOUR SCHEDULE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO VISIT ALL SELECTED PLACES WITHOUT HAVING TO RUSH. LEAVE ASIDE SOME TOURS WHICH SEEM LESS IMPORTANT TO YOU, IF NEEDED. ONCE YOU START SETTING UP THIS ITINERARY, ALSO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WHERE YOU’LL BE STAYING AND LEAVE SOME FREE TIME FOR ANY UNFORESEEN ISSUES YOU MIGHT HAVE.

3

4WITH THE KIDSWHEN CHILDREN ARE INCLUDED IN YOUR TRAVEL PLANS, ESPECIALLY

INFANTS, IT’S IMPORTANT TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL ABOUT CHOOSING YOUR DESTINATION AND PREPARING. ACCORDING TO DR. PATRÍCIA FILGUEIRAS DOS

REIS, PEDIATRICIAN AT DOCWAY, SOME MEASURES MUST BE TAKEN BEFOREHAND AND SHE WARNS PARENTS: “IT’S A GOOD THING TO MAKE

AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE THE TRIP (1-2 MONTHS), ESPECIALLY TO CHECK THE CHILDREN’S VACCINATION CARD AND GIVE THE CHILDREN ANY

NEEDED VACCINES SO THAT IT IS UP TO DATE AND ALSO TO GIVE THEM ANY ADDITIONAL VACCINES REQUIRED AT THE TRAVEL DESTINATION,” SHE SAYS.

13

5LUGGAGEPACKING IS ABSOLUTELY FUN. AFTER ALL, IT’S WHEN THE TRIP STARTSTO GET REAL AND SHAPE UP AND WE’RE CLOSER TO BOARDING FOR THE ADVENTURE. YOU CAN BEGIN PACKING ABOUT TWO WEEKS BE-FORE YOUR TRIP. THIS WILL GIVE YOU TIME TO GO BUY ANY MISSING ITEMS. DON’T FORGET TO PACK CLOTHES WHICH ARE SUITABLE FOR THE KIND OF DESTINATION YOU’VE CHOSEN: ADVENTURE TRIPS CALL FOR MORE COMFORTABLE CLOTHES; TRIPS WITH FANCIER TOURS CALL FOR LOOKS WHICH ARE MORE PUT TOGETHER. THINK ABOUT ALL YOU WILL DO AND TRY TO SET UP LOOKS WHICH WILL GO WITH YOUR WHOLE ITINERARY. TIP: ALWAYS CHECK THE VOLTAGE AND THE KIND OF ELECTRIC PLUG WHERE YOU’RE GOING SO THAT YOU WON’T HAVE TROUBLE CHARGING YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICES.

PREPARE FOR THE HIKENO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, VISITING HISTORICALLANDMARKS IS ESSENTIAL, AND WE KNOW THE WALKS TEND TO BE LONG. SO, ALWAYS BRING COMFORTABLE SHOES IN YOUR LUGGAGE SO THAT THESE LONG WALKS LEAVE GOOD MEMORIES. AND YOUR BEST FRIEND AT TIMES LIKE THESE ARE THOSE BELOVED SNEAKERS. DON’T FORGET THEM!

Beautiful, sophisticated and full of content, she has never given up on her style and on whatever she enjoys the most in life. On the contrary, she has found the perfect solution to bring those two things together and achieve success, besi-des having a cult following, she realizes from the feedback she gets that by showing her way of life in a transparent way, she gets closer to many women who want to be like her: fo-cused, a warrior, dedicated and owning one’s own, but wi-thout giving up on the glamour!

hen she decided to leave her career as a dentist behind, Paula Martins couldn’t imagine how many lives she could change with her idea. “Living without Wheat” (or “Viver Sem Trigo”, as you’ll find her on Instagram, YouTube and blog) came up so that she could spend

more time with her children, and now it became not only her lifestyle but even one of her allies in her battle against (and cure of) cancer. Speaking daily to an audience of over 520k followers, you can check out our chat below.

PICCADILLY Magazine: When and how was the process of leaving your career as a dentist behind to dedicate full time to your family?Paula Martins: I decided to leave my career in 2013, 11 years after graduating! I was unhappy in my career and, besides, I had two small children, twins, and the expenses we had to keep me at work were not worth it, so I decided to give

up my career and find something in which I could be a mother and, at the same time, be successful in a career, but I had no idea of what that could be.

P.M.: Why exactly did you choose a gluten-free diet and not a fitness diet in a broader sense? How do you see an improvement in quality of life through healthier eating?Paula Martins.: I started worrying after I read the book “Wheat Belly”. I always felt bloated, with a stued belly but I didn’t know what could be the cause of that. I’d always had terrible eating habits, based on processed, industrialized foods, and a lot of bread. When I read the book, I was really impressed with the information and I tried cutting o gluten. This is how I came up with Viver Sem Trigo (“Living without Wheat”), which was meant as a personal diary with my attempts, and soon a cook was born! It forced me to cook everything, and when we choose to prepare our own food, we become healthier.

P.M.: How did you deal with the breast cancer diagnosis? Do you believe your cure was also due to the eating style you’ve decided to adopt?Paula Martins.: It was such a shock! Getting the news is really bad. It was in July 2014. We only think about our children. I couldn’t leave them. Do you know that sentence: if

SKILLET CHEESE BREAD

you’re scared, go do it scared? Well, then. It wasn’t easy, but my mind was at ease with my family, my new career, I faced it without getting beat. My eating style, I believe, was a key issue in the success of the treatment. I never caught a cold nor did I have low immunity or an infection. I was living my life, doing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, and traveling for work. Being in touch with family and friends was also key. I didn’t hide away and became a recluse like a lot of people do. I always kept my mind busy.

P.M.: How do you introduce these foods into your children’s routine?Paula Martins: My children are free, I don’t demand an extremely healthy eating routine from them. I believe in being a role model. And also in balance. They’re children and eat all they want but at home the routine is always healthier. They have adapted really well. Nowadays they know how to make choices.

PARISROMANTIC

THE FRENCH CAPITAL HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER THAT

YOU CAN’T DO IT ALL IN ONE TRIP. COME BACK

AND ENJOY THE CITY OF FASHION AND ROMANCE

to mention the Louvre, home to 30,000 precious works such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Monalisa. To enjoy dance and music shows, which are grandiose, visit the Bastille and Opéra Gar-nier. Also go to Sainte-Chapelle, the Sacré Coeur and the Montmartre neighborhood, the sacred architecture there is amazing.

AROUND PARISThere’s a lot to see, but not only in Paris. Around it, there

are special places, like the Versailles Palace, rich in details and a symbol of the French monarchy. Its architecture, size and gardens deserve a full day of visitation. Also go to Fontaine-bleau Palace, Eurodisney and Astérix Park, the Air and Space Museum and the beautiful Chartres Cathedral.

aris, the city of lights and fashion capital of the world, is full of charm which makes it many tou-rists’ favorite destination. And even those who have already been there are always thinking about

going back. No matter how cliché, the capital of France is the city of haute cuisine, of couples in love, of busy sidewa-lks and, of course, of the Eiffel Tower. With a breathtaking architecture making for great photos, your itinerary can be restricted to the classics, like the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Champs Élysées, or more adventurous. You can set up the most varied itineraries there. Besides, getting around is easy. Find accommodation near a metro station and you’ll have the city at your feet.

ENJOY ARTThe greatest and most renowned artists are in every corner

in Paris, so if you’re an art lover and enjoy checking out works of art which made history, some places cannot be missed, like the Rodin museum, the Quai Branly, the Georges Pompidou Institute, and the exquisite Musée d’Orsay with its vast col-lection of impressionists. And, of course, we couldn’t forget

P

Viagem.indd 30 18/03/19 17:23

I’d never wanted a fifteenth birthday party. My dream had always been a trip to Paris. And so it was. So that I would never forget. I remember per-fectly what it felt like when I went up the Eiel tower, when I walked along

the imposing Champs-Élysées for the first time, when I tried to find a tiny spot to try for a pho-to that would prove I had seen the Monalisa at the Louvre. I came back a few times after that. I was in awe of the night boat ride on the Seine on the Bateaux Parisiens, to the sound of La Vie en Rose, with a dinner which was perfectly harmo-nized with French wines. And in spite of all that, the greatest highlight of the trip was way beyond it: the lights there make it the most romantic city I’ve ever been to. So much so that it was exactly where I wanted to go for my honeymoon.

During my last stay there, I checked out an additional local treat. After all, Paris is just so much more than the city of lights. It’s the city of fashion, of perfumes, of wine and... of bread! There, they are all naturally fermented and are treated with respect. And since I’m a lover of good cuisine, I’ve prepared an itinerary with the best bakeries (or boulangeries, as they are called there). Here are the ones you can’t miss:• BRUN: 193 Rue de Tolbiac – in 2017, they won the award for the best baguette in Paris. Without a doubt, the best I’ve had as well, with an absur-dly crunchy crust and a soft middle. So good you don’t need to put anything on or in it.• GONTRAN CHERRIER: 22 Rue Counlaincourt – it belongs to a very well-known chef there with his TV show who decided to invest in the bread business. Flavors like curry or even miso are some of the highlights there. The smoked salmon sandwich served on sepia bread is a must-have.• DU PAIN ET DES IDÉES: 34 Rue Yves Toudic – It has been awarded the best bakery in Paris a few times. It’s very traditional and the mustard bread is my tip.• POILÂNE: 8 Rue du Cherche – there’s usually a line going all the way outside because it’s such a small shop. Besides bread, sweets are their strong suit. It’s really charming. And every time I go to Paris I find something else to fall in love with. There are many, many attractions.

À LA FRANÇAISEHow can you be in Paris and not enjoy great

French cuisine? Impossible! Don’t leave before you’ve had a good ratatouille and snails, and also enjoy the “menu du jour” for lunch, which includes a starter, a main course, a dessert and a glass of house wine. You can also make your own sandwich on a baguette and sit by the Sei-ne, like a good Parisian. Sit at a bakery, café, a city square and enjoy the day-to-day of the lo-cals. Paris is meant to be experienced in every way. And finally, you won’t have a hard time fin-ding good restaurants there!

BREATHE FASHIONThe epicenter of all major fashion shows and

brands in the world, the fashion universe cannot be left out of your itinerary. Go to the Galliera museum, which tells a detailed story of the cou-ture styles. Also don’t forget to go to the shops locals love, like Citadium, full of streetwear with great brands of clothing, shoes and accessories. Kiliwatch is also worth the visit, this second--hand shop includes a variety of products. If you’re all about discount shopping, nothing bet-ter than going for good French brands, walk on Rue de Marseille. Enjoy your shopping!

EXTRA TIP: PARIS ON-LINEOnce you get o your plane, download the

Secrets Paris app on your phone. Every day it will send you a suggestion for an attraction tou-rists don’t know about, making your trip even more complete.

If you’ve been following PICCADILLY for a while, you know that this is our clients’ darling tech-nology. PICCADILLY MAXITHERAPY is our exclu-sive technology made of a special and unique insole, developed from a biofiber coat, granting maximum comfort and wellbeing to your feet. Putting on a PICCADILLY MAXITHERAPY style means understanding that you can have your feet on the ground while feeling you’re walking on the clouds.

Often times, walking on the streets becomesan adventure with so many bumpy pave-ments, right? With that in mind, shoes with Anatomic technology respect the anatomy of the female foot providing a perfect fit to the shoe, reducing pressure points. Besides, they have resistant soles made from TPU and air pockets which attenuate ground unevenness. Walking safely is possible!

SoftStep technology is composed of a dumping system that provides more comfort over a longer time span; that is thanks to a dual-density insole and to impact absorber and distribution of plantar pressure, which absorbs impact, preventing pain and callosity.

CONSULTING

JOURNALIST AND COACH BRUNA FIORETI GAVE UPHER SOLID CAREER IN ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUSMAGAZINES IN THE COUNTRY TO FOCUS ON WHATSHE REALLY WANTED: TO HELP PEOPLE.

runa is one of those people with contagious enthusiasm. Good-humored and avoiding whining, she decided to leave her fashion-world life, working for a big magazine, and to fo-cus on what she had always loved: coaching. It was scary, but

she did it (and really well)! Bruna was a managing editor for Glamour maga-zine for five years and she had previously worked for other important Bra-zilian media, such as Estadão, Jornal da Tarde, Boa Forma, among others. With this mini-resume, we can already tell this journalist had a brilliant care-er ahead of her, but as she says it herself “one fine day I decided to change and do all the things I had always wanted to do...” And then she left her prestigious job, her career as a fashion journalist and, since 2016, she has focused on creating her own content and working on coaching, oering classes and talking to people and to companies all over Brazil. And it is all about women’s behavior, which is her passion!

PICCADILLY Magazine: When did you decide that you had to change what you had been doing for such a long time?Bruna Fioreti: : I have always had a knack for career and behavior issues. So much so that, from the be-ginning of my career, at Jornal da Tarde, for ins-tance, I worked in the variety section and I was even awarded a few prizes with articles on beha-vior. Later on, I ended up wanting to know more and go deeper into this coaching area. From then on, I started working on a career transition, until I became master coach. P.M.: What are the first steps for people whofeel this need to change?B. F.: The first step is trying to get out of stag-nation mode. We stay in the realm of ideas, but we need to take a small step to start testing the waters of change. It might be a class, a book, YouTube channels... and to take this first step, look for things outside your comfort zone, be-cause that activates creativity and then you start a process of self-knowledge to find out what makes you tick.

P.M.: And how can we get over the fear of lea-ving the comfort zone?B.F.: The fear will always be there and this is the first thing we need to accept. People who make innovative things are also scared. This happens to most people, and we must know how to live with fear and to fight it in a gentle way. There are people who are terrified of change and it’s worth to start with small things like a new color of nail polish, a new haircut. P.M.: What can we do to be ourselves and happy?B.F.: This is, for sure, that one-million-dollar question (laughs). I’d say that, in our day-to-day lives, we need to try to find the pair “meaning and pleasure”. We need to see life from the point of view of meaning and find pleasure in the small things. Happiness is the road you take and not where you end up.

UP! - PICCADILLY UNIVERSE

PICCADILLY hosted part of the international partners team in the town of Gramado, in the southern State of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil. The brand brought together distributors from 22 countries, in-cluding Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala. Guests could check out the new items from the Fall-Winter ’19 Collection. Besides the new product lines, guests could also check out success stories from many countries connected to the brand, presented by Cristine Grings Nogueira, PICCADILLY CEO, together with Ana Carolina Grings, the brand’s VP. The main goal of this event was to provide an exclusive moment for foreign clients that represent 30% of PICCADILLY busi-ness (currently in more than 100 countries), with plans to expand to even more countries over the next couple of months.

PICCADILLY

PICCADILLY had a huge sale to make one of our customers’ dream come true: being a homeowner. From October 1st to December 31st, 2018, each pair of shoes bought in Brazil corresponded to a raÀe entry for a draw. The lucky winner of the draw was Irene Resien Sauer, from Apucarana, who received a 200-thousand Brazilian Reais gift card to be used as a down payment for her new home. The prize was handed to her at the Dois Pés shop, also located in Apucarana, where the winning pair of shoes was sold.
