Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenges forms and conventions of a real media product?

My music magazine follows the conventions, as I used images, masthead, cover line and strap line. My music magazine’s masthead is ‘Charm’, as with every magazine the customer will receive a free different charm with each issue of the magazine. This could persuade my audience teen girls to purchase my music magazine every month when it is released, making the loyal customers as they will know they will receive a free good quality charm for example heart – this could represent love and relationships, dolphin- as they are clever in their own way and beautiful peaceful creatures.

The main image on my magazine is my own band ‘OutLawZ’ they are the new upcoming pop stars, as they have most of the attention of the page, it is easy to see that they are the main feature as it is larger than any other image on the front cover. As they are new my audience would like to know who they are, and more about them. Therefore this will attract my audience as they want to read the article on OutLawZ.

I put cover lines on my front cover to get my target audience’s attention who are teen girls, as the cover lines relate with the artists who are at the top of the charts, or have released a new album or single. I used the same font and size, to make it constant. I also used a cover line in a circle to make bring it out, from the other cover lines and the background and this is why I made the text bolder and added the image of the charm to help the audience visualise.

Towards the bottom of the page my front cover there are small images of posters which will be shown in the magazine under this I have wrote ‘posters inside’ as they will attract teens as the posters are to do which who is populate now, therefore teens /will purchase it because they want the posters of the top artists in the charts.

At the top of the my magazine, I have included a skyline about One Direction as when I did my questionnaire, One Direction was the most voted for. Therefore I included them in my front cover as it will attract attention from my target audience teen girls. This adds to the conventions of a magazine; to suggest that there is more about One Direction in the magazine, I made the corner of the magazine appear to be folded.

On the left hand is my fashion statement or cover line, on the right is a cover line from a music magazine. I have put a fashion related cover line because the music industry links with the fashion industry, as the type of clothing an artist wears can reflect their type of music from POP to RAP. Therefore I have related the cover line to the NEW clothing of the season as teen girls are likely to keep up dated with fashion, this will lead to them purchasing the magazine as it has the new clothing for spring.

Another convention used in many magazine and in the top of the pops magazine I studied is, having quote on the double page spread, to grab the audience’s attention. Which I have used in my double page spread, in the centre of the pages. I have also made sure the main text does not go these the centre of the page, and this part of the page will be folded, therefore the audience will find it harder to view.

Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media music magazine represents particular social group, who is mainly female teenagers, aged 12 to 16. As teenagers are unlikely to have jobs therefore they have less money to spend, which is I have a less expensive price for my magazine.

My music magazine is called ‘Charm’, as with every magazine the customer will receive a free different charm with each issue of the magazine. This could persuade my audience teen girls to purchase my music magazine every month when it is released, making the loyal customers as they will know they will receive a free good quality charm for example heart – this could represent love and relationships, dolphin- as they are clever in their own way and beautiful peaceful creatures. With the first issue of the magazine the customer will also receive a free charm bracelet with a first charm.

I have tried to keep the title of the Magazine, context page and the double page spread the same layout towards the top of the page; in a rectangular box keeping it the same size, the context page title and the tile of the double page spread at the top in a box. This shows a reoccurring layout making it conceived.

Question 3

8

What kind of media institution might

distribute your media product and why?

Another way of distribution is putting my magazine online. As teenagers are more likely to use internet, therefore they are more likely to see and read my magazine online, it will benefit my audience teens as it will be easy to carry around a mobile phone than a magazine.

My music magazine’s distribution will be in many different ways, like magazine stands and online.

One method of distribution is putting the magazine in shops like news agents. Where there are other magazines on the stands, therefore many people are likely to see my magazine.

Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target audience is teen girls who are aged 12 to 16, which is why I have chosen to use a colour scheme of pinks and purples as they are colours which are related to girls. They are interested in POP music, this could be as POP music closely relates to what is happening in their lives and share their problems. As they will be at school they are unlikely to have jobs, therefore they will have less disposable money to spend, and this is why my music magazine is only £1.30. Which I think is reasonable because the customer will also get a freebie charm for the charm bracelet.

Question 5

How did you attract/ address your audience?

I attracted my target audience by the uses of images of the current artists; the music style of pop which mainly is listened to by teen girls. How I have used the current artists is by having their images on the front cover as cover lines to interest the customers, including images of them which can be by having their free posters.

Having a free charm with every magazine, is attracts the audience as this will make them a permanent and loyal customer. This is brought to the customer’s attention by, including this as a cover line on the front cover of my magazine. On the content page there a small image of a chance to win a holiday; this brings this feature to the attention.

Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process constructing this product?

I have learnt to use Photoshop to edit and manipulate photographs and other images, by using the different types of tools, for example vector tools and learning how to change the background by using the gradient tool; from creating my music magazine.

I have also learnt more about camera angles and shot and why different types are used, which I have included in my magazine.

I have never had a blog before, which is why I found it hard to use and add information like images and slides from PowerPoint, slide share and word documents by Scribd. I have learnt different ways to get information on my blog by using slide share and other resources, I have leant how to change the colours of texts and background, and how the add apps or widgets on the sides of the blog posts. I have changed the layout of my blog by exploring different colours and styles of layout and text and fronts.
