Construction : magazine front cover

The program that I used to create my magazine front cover was photoshop.

This is the magazine front cover I was following the conventions of.

After looking at the Prometheus magazine front cover I decided to use an image of the main character in an actual setting in the teaser trailer, as you can see from the background. This was also evident in the Prometheus magazine front cover where you can see the particular character looks to have some sort of spaceship behind her

• This is where I encountered my first problem as you can see with the titling of the ‘EMPIRE’ my title on my magazine front cover isn’t the same the reason for this is because I couldn't find the exact same font used by Empire so I used the font which I thought looked similar to the font used by them.

• The 2nd problem that I encountered was that the title ‘EMPIRE’ had some letters placed behind the head of the main image. I struggled to follow this convention but after I watched this tutorial located below I was able to do so.

In order to over come my problem with not being able to get the Empire text behind the image of the character I had to use the pen tool to cut around the head of the character. Then duplicated the layer and placed the layer above the one that had the Empire title.

I decided to place the title of my film around the torso area of the image , reason being was that this was also done on the Prometheus front cover. I was initially going to go with the colour blue but after realising that this colour would clash with my characters costume I went with red which is a bold colour that would stand out.

I included the exact same selling line as the Prometheus magazine front over but decided to us a different font and a different scheme of colors

This is how my magazine front cover looked without the inclusion of my main image and background.

Similar to the Prometheus magazine front cover I planned on adding the same selling line ‘ THE WORLD EXCLUSIVE EVERYONE WANTED’ I once again with red to reinforce the importance of what’s being said.

• Where I departed from the conventions of the Empire magazine was with what the image showed, whilst my image showed the head to abdominals the Prometheus magazine front cover showed the to the knee caps of the female character.
