These type of magazines are usually brought on a monthly subscription as buyers of the magazines are ones who regularly purchase the magazine as they are fans of the magazine brand. They can also be found in large supermarkets who stock different genres of magazines and specialist shops but wouldn’t be typically found in a newsagent who tend to stick more mainstream and cheap magazines that are more popular with the public.

These are examples of magazines that are aimed to readers who are prepared to pay around £3-4 for a magazine.

The layout of the magazines connotes a sophisticated and more mature look and reflect the expensive pricing of it. They all use a simplistic, clean and professional layout, generally just having one main image and the text fitted around the model

The front cover makes readers believe that the content inside is more sophisticated and is usually specific to a particular topic. They usually use 3 to 4 main colours for their colour scheme to make the cover look attractive and artistic, unlike cheap magazine that use bright and bold colours that clash with each other to make it stand out.

These types of magazines tend to keep a similar layout in which readers are familiar with and are therefore able to differentiate from other magazines. Building their brand for these magazines is an important tool is attracting readers.

By creating a more professional and classy style magazine, they are able to sell it at a higher price as they will be targeting the more mature and older readers

Expensive magazines are usually produced on a monthly basis as they require effort and a lot of time in the production of it including the designing stage and also the time spent writing the long articles that are full with in depth detailing.

These magazines are usually released monthly as they contain more detailed stories including in depth interviews and requires much more work done to the design which means they can only produce a new magazine on a monthly basis.

These are examples of magazines that usually are priced between £2-3. In comparison to cheap magazines, they are less packed and consist of a simple masthead, one main image and everything else placed around it.

The colours used are less vivid and bold, such magazines tend to stick to a particular colour scheme which can vary from issue to issue. The magazine reflects a more relaxed look and focuses on a few particular stories rather than cramming in lots onto the front cover.

They also tend not to include as much advertising as this gives room for more in depth stories and this is an attractive feature to magazine buyers who are more focused on the magazine’s stories as opposed to advertising products

People who buy these types of magazines tend to be ones of repeat purchases as they are loyal to magazine brand and purchase most of their issues, unlike cheap magazines which might only be brought if they are advertised in a shop.

Such magazines can also be found in shops we go to everyday such as newsagents and supermarkets as they are still affordable to buy on a regular basis. They are also subscribed by some readers who prefer their weekly or monthly magazine to be delivered to their door which can sometimes be cheaper than going out and buying them at retail price.

Cheap gossip magazines are sold in places such as supermarkets (e.g. Tesco) and local newsagents as these are places where people go to very often to buy other products and at the same time they go to look at the magazine section and are attracted to buy these magazines because of their cheap prices and packed content.

These types of magazines are typically priced under £1 which makes them cheap.

A common convention of such magazines is their ‘busy’ and packed look as it appears to contain a lot of content. Magazines do this to make readers aware of the fact that the magazine has a lot of content for them that they will be interested in.

The price of these magazines is made noticeable and bold for the audience to make them believe the magazine is a ‘bargain’ for the amount of content it has.

They all use bright and vivid colours to make the front cover attractive and catch readers eyes rather than a ordinary, consistent colour scheme. Colours such as red and yellow are commonly used as they are very eye catching and contrast with black making it stand out.

These types of magazines are heavily focused on celebrity gossip and therefore use images and quotes from celebs to put on their front cover to attract readers attention to their magazines as they will read the headlines and want to continue reading.
