Madras Italian Etched Glass

Vitrealspecchi was established in 1939 by a family of

industrial glass processors active since the beginning of

the century. True to their innovative reputation, in the mid

‘60s Vitrealspecchi focused on an ancient glass working

technique and patented the first process for etching float

glass on an industrial scale. That was the beginning of

Madras®. Developed on an industrial scale, this antique

glass working technique can turn factory supplied float

glass – monolithic, laminated, silvered or painted – into an

exquisite material for architecture and design in terms of

both aesthetic and functional characteristics.

The Madras® patterns are organized by type of finish,

intended use and stylistic features, so that designers can

choose on the basis of taste, functional and installation

requirements.
