Tech Tots provides developmental toys, adapted toys, & devices to children with developmental & physical disabilities. Tech Tools Toy Lending Library is a FREE service!! You can check out toys to use in your home for 1 month. Tech Tools Toy Lending Library is a program of UCP Nebraska. Play is an essential component of growing up & is the most important work explored by children. As children engage in play, they practice & master specific physical, psychological, emotional & creative skills necessary for understanding & interacting with the world around them. As children all have different abilities, so too are their methods of operating devices & accessing information. The use of adapted toys & devices decrease physical barriers & social barriers to play, enabling children at varied functional levels to actively explore & achieve some independence. By equalizing play through these modifications, children learn about the cause-effect relationships & practice creative problem solving. As children recognize their abilities through the work of play, they gain the self-confidence necessary for handing challenges in all areas of daily living. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child! Special Needs Mom's

You may think us “special moms” have it pretty rough. We have no choice. We just manage life when things get really tough. We've made it through the days we thought we'd never make it through. We've even impressed our own selves with all that we can do!

We've gained patience beyond measure, love we never dreamed of giving. We worry about the future but know this “special” life's worth living! We have bad days and hurt sometimes, but we hold our heads up high. We feel joy and pride and thankfulness more often than we cry.

For our kids, we aren't just SUPERMOMS, No, we do so much more :) We are cheerleaders, nurses, and therapists who don't walk out the door. We handle rude remarks and unkind stares, with dignity and grace. Even though the pain they bring cannot be erased.

Therapies and treatment routes are a lot for us to digest, We don't know what the future holds, but give our kids our best. None of us can be replaced, so we don't get many breaks. It wears us out, but to help our kids, we'll do whatever it takes!

We are selfless, not by choice you see. Our kids just have many needs. We're not out to change the world, but want to plant some seeds. We want our kids accepted. That really is our aim. When we look at them, we just see kids. We hope you'll do the same.

What is Early Head Start? Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded comprehensive child development program offered by Community Action. EHS serves low-income

pregnant women, children ages birth to three (including children with special needs) & their families. Through EHS, we aim to help children to grow physically and socially while empowering families to move toward self-sufficiency, & get children ready to go to kindergarten. Our EHS Home-based program offers the opportunity to have a Family Advocate work with you & your child within the comfort of your own home for 90 minutes a week.

You & your child will benefit from one-on-one attention from your Family Advocate. Home Visits: The main focus of a home visit is your child’s growth & development. A Family Advocate will visit your home for 90 minutes a week, & work with you & your child. During each visit you & your child will have the opportunity to enjoy an activity or experience together. Playgroups are organized playtimes for you & your child to get to meet

other children & parents in the EHS program. This is a great opportunity to share experiences & learn from others in the program just like you. EHS Family Advocates are trained to not only provide fun ways for you to help your child learn & grow, they can also help put you in touch with

community resources to help you meet your day-to-day needs, & help you provide positive opportunities for your family & your child. Call Community Action at 402-875-9385 to schedule a time to fill out an application. (Updated 8/2018)

Tech Tots Toy Lending Library based in Norfolk For families in North Eastern Nebraska there is a Tech Tots Toy Lending Library available to you at Faith Regional Health Services Rehab Services. Tech Tots provides developmental toys, adapted toys, & devices to children with developmental & physical disabilities. Tech Tots is a

FREE service!! You can check out toys to use in your home for 1 month. Tech Tots Toy Lending Library is a program of UCP Nebraska. Play is an essential component of growing up & is the most important work explored by children. As children engage in play, they practice & master specific physical, psychological, emotional & creative skills necessary for understanding & interacting with the world around them. As children all have different abilities, so too are their methods of operating devices & accessing

information. The use of adapted toys & devices decrease physical barriers & social barriers to play, enabling children at varied functional levels to actively explore & achieve some independence. By equalizing play through these modifications, children learn about the cause-effect relationships & practice creative problem solving. As children recognize their abilities through the work of play, they gain the self-confidence necessary for

handing challenges in all areas of daily living. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child!

To access the Tech Tots Lending Library call Faith Regional Health Services Rehab Services at 402-644-7348, ext. 7396 and ask for Nikki Fischer, or [email protected]

Classes for kids with Special Needs at The Rose Theater for Performing Arts

Located at 2001 Farnam Street, OMAHA, The Rose Theater believes that every child and their family should have access to high-quality performing arts education experiences. The Rose is proud to offer a variety of drama classes to accommodate diverse learners.

One of these classes is what The Rose calls an inclusive drama class, where students with and without disabilities participate in drama creation together. The inclusive classes have extra adult helpers and other accommodations to help students succeed.

The Rose also offers a class specifically for students with disabilities in a self-contained setting. The self-contained class is offered in a year-long format and is designed specifically for participants in that class. Both the inclusive and self-contained classes focus on the process of creating

theater. Both of these classes take into consideration the student with sensory sensitivities. Both self-contained and inclusive drama classes are offered on Saturdays for eight week sessions in the fall (September 15-November 3, 2018), the winter session (January 5-February 23, 2019) and the spring session (March 16-May 4, 2019). American Sign Language Interpreted classes (offered January 5-February 23, 2019) allow hearing students, students with hearing loss, and students who are deaf to work together to create theater.

These classes have an interpreter to help students with hearing challenges.

For additional information about accommodation requests, please contact Accessibility Coordinator, Fran Sillau at 402-502-4613 or at [email protected]

Young Adults at Madonna School The 3,300 square feet of new space is specially designed to help young people ages 18 & up, develop independent living skills & employability skills

so they can maximize their independent in life. Madonna’s Life Skills Transition Program, developed & directed by Mrs. Diane Cochran, is in its sixth year of helping young adults with intellectual & developmental challenges prepare themselves for the job market & for as independent a living arrangement as they can handle. Cooking, cleaning, hygiene, shopping, using public transportation, & other related skills are all important

components of the program. In collaboration with local employers, Madonna enables students to have a wide variety of job experiences.
