Sick Kids Can’t WaitPlease give what you can at uwhealthkids.org

“Right now, I’m curing cancer. You can too.”

You may not think of Coach Bo Ryan as a trained pediatric cancer specialist. Fortunately, he does not have to be a doctor to make a huge difference in the lives of hospitalized kids.

“By supporting American Family Children’s Hospital at the UW, I join my fellow Badger coaches in helping save a child’s life,” says Coach Ryan.

Right now, your donation can help too – by helping build urgently needed additional critical care units where we care for very sick children.

Please visit uwhealthkids.org because sick kids can’t wait.

The Overture Center for the Arts is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their popular Kids in the Rotunda community programming with expanded programs featuring musicians, dancers, storytellers, magicians, theater troupes, comedians, and jugglers. “We’ve had some success recently in both ticket sales and fundraising, and there’s no better way to use that money than to invest further in programs like Kids in the Rotunda that provide fun artistic experiences for kids and families,” explains Overture Center CEO Ted DeDee on the decision to expand the program. The Kids in the Rotunda Program provides three free performances at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays from now through April 2013. Some events have

already come and gone, and here’s what you can look forward to in the next few months.

Stories, music, and danceThe Madison Ballet returns to the Rotunda stage to demonstrate what it’s really like to be a dancer. Kids can take part in a ballet class warm-up, see the dancers practice their barre and center floor work, and watch a rehearsal up close (December 1).

Lois Elhert, author of “Mole Hill Stories” (November 10), Stuart Stotts (February 23), Tom Pease (March 23) and longtime favorite singer/songwriter Ken Lonnquist (April 6) will be in the Rotunda to regale the young audience with stories and music.

Kids in the Rotunda celebrates 30th anniversaryWith an expanded lineup of free artistic and performing arts events for children and families, there’s something for everyone and every age.

Join the Okee Dokee Brothers for a rip-roarin’, knee-thumpin’ good time when they perform their original bluegrass songs (February 9). Little Miss Ann presents infectious folk songs promoting fun and big messages of inner strength, individuality, and love (March 2) while David Landau provides hilarious stories, catchy songs, and energetic dances known to give families serious cases of the giggles (March 9). Singer/songwriter Laura Doherty returns to acoustically rock your kid’s world with breezy folk-pop songs (April 13).

Different cultures, music and dance…The Kids in the Rotunda series presents music and dance performances from different cultures, bringing new sights and sounds into the mix. Yid Vicious, a traditional klezmer music group performs their Hanukkah Rocks! concert on December 8. Magic, comedy, and everything in-betweenThere is also no shortage of quirky and nontraditional performances to delight and amuse. Wayne the Wizard presents astonishing illusions and impressive magic tricks, welcomes audience participation, and even does a ventriloquist act (December 29). Yo-yo world champion Mark Hayward shows off exciting yo-yo stunts (January 12). Truly Remarkable Loon performs wacky stunts, sidesplitting comedy, gravity-defying plate spinning and spectacular

juggling (January 26). The Monkey Business Institute will use their super-strong imaginations to create spur-of-the-moment, seat-of-their-pants traditional and musical improvisational comedy (February 16). Two-time recipient of the World Deaf Magician Award, Magic Morgan and Liliana create eye-popping illusions, dazzling balloon sculptures, stunts with live animals and seemingly impossible tricks in an incredible display of magic (March 30). Daniel Barash will take the audience on a voyage around the world with the fantastic art of shadow puppetry (April 20). The Kids in the Rotunda series finale features bubble-ologist Geoff Akins who entertains and inspires with his Bubble Wonders! show (April 27).

The 30th anniversary celebration of Kids in the Rotunda is in full swing, so schedule a few Saturdays and see a few of these special shows – compliments of the Overture Center for the Arts. Happy Anniversary and many more!
